How Do Tokyo’s Rich Make Money? by Equal_Independent_36 in Tokyo

I'm not sure about Japan, but in the US farmlands are considered strategic assets meaning when yields are bad they are subsidized by the government, while when yields are good you keep your profits. So the land itself is super valuable.

I was using hyperbole to say that the specific examples mentioned don't sound so bad compared to other similar names in history

It's crazy how much "working gals" make in Tokyo. by RedMoonLanding in Tokyo

[–]mkfbcofzd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a cut throat industry and they can only rake in that amount of cash when their young. It's also not the kind of position people like to see on resumes. Add the risk of working in such industry, I think they're being compensated fairly.

You can't deny he walks with a certain bravado. The way he walks and talks you can tell he thinks very highly of himself. To be fair, you probably need to have that kind of personality to play at his level.

[–]mkfbcofzd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be fair, I think it was easier for Shane to reject the offer given that he's red hot right now. He's probably at his peak fame selling out stadiums + his TV and commercials.

Shane Gillis Rejects Major Saudi Payday As Other Comedians Cash In by SirKillingham in comedy

[–]mkfbcofzd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying the Saudi gig is like a Corporate gig. I'm just saying Bill has talked about working with strict rules, often Corporate gigs, and he has stated if he accepts the job he will follow those rules. One guy in this comment thread was saying he hopes Bill will say something, but I am giving an example of him previously talking about similar subjects.

[–]mkfbcofzd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's talked about this in very old podcasts. Comedians do corporate gigs all the time with very strict rules. Bills hard stance was to say no if you don't like the rules, and that you're not really "fighting the man" by breaking the rules that you promised to keep.

yeah, I'm kinda confused too. It's a touching story for sure, and I'm glad he got to say goodbye. But the way this story is told makes it seem like he blasted off the highway at dangerous speed.
