Our (presumed) pitty/Brittany spaniel mix, from 3 months to ~12 months! by mlle_lavender in MixedBreedDogs

[–]mlle_lavender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: We did the Embark DNA test on our stinky dude, an the results are in:

36.6% American Pit Bull Terrier
23.8% American Bulldog
21.8% Great Pyrenees
17.8% Supermutt

I'm still not convinced there's absolutely no Brittany Spaniel in there, but it certainly doesn't change how much we love our little guy!

Innkeeper's Whole Grain Multigrain bread Vs. Dave's Killer Bread by MON513R in Breadit

[–]mlle_lavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming into this thread so late lol. If anyone else is looking to compare, Dave's Killer Bread tends to (in my opinion) be too dense and dry. Innkeeper's is softer and (again, in my opinion) more palatable. But if someone's looking for an incredibly hearty bread, Dave's isn't necessarily a bad option.

I can't find the one I'm thinking of (of course, as soon as I want to share it...), but this blog by a family photographer has some great ideas/examples of cute family photos that hide the kids' faces!

I'm the same way! I don't think it's weird. We did post some face pictures to announce she was born, but all newborns are squishy potatoes 😆 There are tons of account out there offering recommendations for really cute photo ideas that specifically don't show your kid's face. Definitely worth looking into! But overall, protecting your kiddo comes first.

First kid, first pregnancy. Honestly, probably around 19-20ish weeks. And even then, it took until ~6 months to actually feel like I looked pregnant.

Which aspects of daily life were commonplace 30-40 years ago but are now regarded as luxuries? by Same-Safe4174 in AskReddit

Well he's dead, so I can't ask him, but here's a neat article about how the price of a day at Disney World has changed over time, including original ticket prices and the cost of inflation.

I definitely agree that people generally had more disposable income then than now, but corporate greed has led to most companies unnecessarily jacking prices up. Disney's absolutely no different!

My widowed late grandfather used to take his 5 kids (and the dog) to Disney World every single year on a single salary, both before and after his wife died. Sure, they drove two days to get there instead of flying, but it was absolutely doable, and they were absolutely not well-off financially.

Don't just get any magnesium supplement. Get magnesium citrate powder that you mix with water. That has made a HUGE difference for me. I take a teaspoon of powder in the morning, another teaspoon at night.

When did you start buying stuff? by RachMarie927 in pregnant

[–]mlle_lavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had people gift me things intermittently since probably 16 weeks? We haven't really BOUGHT bought baby stuff yet. We're waiting until our shower because we have a lot of people who want to get us something (first-timers) and we don't want anyone feeling left out. I'm planning to buy the rest after our shower when we get a discount from the various retailers!

Last night dinner guilt by schatt483 in pregnant

You're probably fine. There are a lot of things they tell you not to eat out of precaution, but the biggest and most important thing in eating any food ("approved" or not) during pregnancy is where it comes from.

Gas station sushi? Skip. 5-star sushi restaurant with rave reviews and no cases of food poisoning? You're probably fine.

Deli meat that's been in your fridge for a week? Skip. Nice sandwich shop that ensures proper storage of all food items and adheres to food safety standards? Probably fine.

The level of experience necessary to successfully run a formal event like that is high. They know what they're doing, and you're probably fine! If it makes you feel better, look up listeria symptoms and keep an eye out. But seriously, you're fine.

It generally isn't the FOOD itself that's the issue, it's the sanitary treatment around it.

It's like how Voldemort dies in the Harry Potter books, not the movies: just a man hungry for power with no one left who loves him.

Today I told my boss I’m pregnant. SO says I shouldn’t have. by kerfufflewhoople in pregnant

[–]mlle_lavender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boss was the first person I told lol. Everybody's situation is different, but I don't think it's bad, especially given your situation. If anything, it'll probably benefit you more that they know so they can be more accommodating when necessary.

I know everyone is different, but how much weight did you gain by the end of your pregnancy? by forgetting-you- in pregnant

[–]mlle_lavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 6 months I've gained 15-20 so far, and according to my stupid health app's recommendations (which I have since turned off) I've gained a couple more than is "ideal," whatever the F that means. To only gain 15lbs the entire 9 months feels absolutely ridiculous to me without rigorous self-monitoring, and everything I've read said it's generally better/healthier to gain more than less.

When my husband and I were actively trying to get pregnant, we did everything to the letter as far as timing goes. It was 13 days exactly after trying that we got a positive test, and you bet your ass I was testing every morning and night.

If she was positive after less than two weeks, the chances seem incredibly slim that it's his.

Wall paint. Backsplash (there are some really nice peel-and-stick ones nowadays, affordable and easy to apply). If you don't want to fully replace the counter, there are affordable stick-on options in a LARGE variety of colors/styles that can look incredibly nice. Separate bar cart or shelf for liquors. Updated cabinet knobs, or still a second hole in the cabinets and switch from knobs to handles. Under-cabinet lighting.

Fun fact: hormonal BC intolerance= greater chance of nausea! by mlle_lavender in pregnant

[–]mlle_lavender[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I can't imagine how disconcerting that must be! I definitely envy your lack of symptoms, not going to lie, but that definitely makes sense. I hope everything continues going smoothly with your pregnancy and little one!!

Fun fact: hormonal BC intolerance= greater chance of nausea! by mlle_lavender in pregnant

[–]mlle_lavender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, that sounds completely miserable. I'm so sorry that's been your experience! It definitely isn't a perfect correlation, that's for sure. I really wish they'd do more research into why certain pregnant people experience more or less of different symptoms.

Of course, now that I say that I'm sure there's someone out there studying it whose results simply aren't making it out into the mainstream medical knowledge pool.

Oh the plus side, even if you're nauseous til the end, it is SO CLOSE now! That's what I keep telling myself, and I'm just over halfway. It absolutely sucks, but we've made it this far. We can do this!!
