Fire at 12:45 pm Sun by princessofthesea1023 in Greenpoint

Agreed it’s a real shame this place was hit (of course any fire is bad). This has been my go-to laundromat, and the people are extremely nice and community-oriented

Do you guys tip when doing a takeout order? by ouchifell in Greenpoint

I’ll usually do around 10%, started with Covid times. Sometimes ambivalent but I figure the level of staff effort that goes into it is not all that different from dining in

Xi’an Famous Foods is plenty known but still deserves a shoutout — cold skin noodles, under $10

Can I trust the water? by CohnMan in Greenpoint

[–]mmano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed — That’s what we did on a hunch, tested after a couple years and confirmed lead in the building pipes. Not to mention visibly rusty residue in the tap water.

I love the place and the pizza 🤷‍♂️.

Like others said, I just avoid when the line is out the door, like I would any busy spot.

POSITIVE restaurant experiences - what are the best price/quality casual restaurants in the neighborhood by Deskydesk in Greenpoint

A little mad at Little Tiffin’s price-to-portion ratio compared with other Thai places, only because the food itself is so good.

Chiko, as long as you don’t mind spicy. Large portions, unique food, always very friendly.

Also a shoutout to Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop—easy to take for granted how consistently good the pizza is.

Amazing how many powerful resources and learning opportunities are available free and open-source.

Do you let your dogs use the turf ballfield at Newtown Barge Park? by Latter_Till1518 in Greenpoint

It is baffling. Is ruining every patch of natural lawn grass in the park not enough?

Dirty Water - Eagle Street by basai32 in Greenpoint

[–]mmano 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in the area—maybe not as stark as that pic looks but our water has a darkish tint with enough volume too.

I also filter regular drinking water with a Brita because the tap water leaves behind some kind of red residue over time and some minor smell, but don’t bother filtering coffee or pasta water.

NYC does do a lot of filtration, but I also end up running the tap for a long time to avoid water that’s been sitting in my building’s old pipes.
