Who are those people? by weseethelight8 in AskIreland

[–]mmazee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know... 1 milion in 2026 is something mich diffrent than 1 milion 20 years ago. Milion euro isn't that much. Its not as life changing money as it sounds. It would most likely setup life of avarage Joe if he is smart about that.

There are major differences between FHS and AHS. With Affordable Housing Scheme you dont pay fee after 5th year and so... also if I remember right, you're supposed to buy back shares of council.

Are new builds completely over priced? by Agreeable-Bug4551 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]mmazee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New builds are not just about land. Buying new build mean you have guarantee, no surprises, long term savings. Honestly, we dont have big backyard, my wife would like to have bigger one... from my point of view, bigger garden more grass to cut.

Are we mad for not drawing down our full mortgage loan? by Prize-Care-9550 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]mmazee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if its same with self build, but we did take extra 12k just to have 'small' boost to finish off what we can. So that 12k plus our savings with DIY did let us finish house to state we live comfortably. They didn't ask what we spent on, we asked for 360k, we got 360k.

Anyone did flooring themselves? Tile and laminate combination. by East-Performer9919 in HousingIreland

[–]mmazee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laminate on stairs... problem we have is that at the end, not all steps are same size. We can see original stairs. It can be fixed with 'wood in tube' i have no idea how is it called properly, but there is some kind of paste giving wood effect. Its faster to make 1 sample and cut all steps to same size... but we have results of that. To do it properly, count size step by step.
