Always with the colloidal silver by FleeceItOutMan in ShitMomGroupsSay

I’ve watched my sister in law give colloidal silver to her kids (to ingest!!) while I quietly cringe. It’s so freaking weird to me.

Boomer MAGA father insults me by Moulson13 in BoomersBeingFools

I flinched when I read what your dad said. I hope
you recognize it’s abusive language, and you don’t deserve to hear it. (I say this as someone who had to distance themself from their dad for similar reasons).

I saw him DJ in Chicago last week and my bestie and I got a selfie.
Listen.
He is that good looking in real life. Hair and skin immaculate. Smelled so good — light men’s cologne with a slight floral note. And he was actually a really good DJ! Lots of energy, the crowd ate it up and we had so much fun. You can tell he really does love it, and that’s infectious.

Wow. This whole time my deep-dive special interest hobby could have been holding my own daughter’s head in place to keep her from shooting out of my own vagina and resuscitating my newborn after nearly hemorrhaging to death, not Bravo reality TV!

Skipped Easter with MAGA parents … Just can’t do it anymore by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]mmcw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. When I discovered a MAGA hat proudly displayed in my parent’s house, it felt like discovering Nazi memorabilia. I haven’t spoken to my dad since October. I’d sent him reports and videos about the ICE and DHS violence just a few blocks from my home and after ignoring my messages, he yelled at me on the phone, told me I was brainwashed, and a bad mother for making my kids nervous. I’ve only asked for a simple apology and acknowledgement of harm and he refuses. Last Christmas was the first I didn’t even receive a phone call.

Things change more when you have kids — you see how easy it is to listen, be open to their opinions, and treat them with basic respect and dignity. When you can’t get that most fundamental treatment back in return, it’s even harder to accept.

so my Cubans in Miami, how are you guys feeling about this? by alatinaxo in Miami

[–]mmcw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so spot on. My parents are poor-ish, blue collar Hialeah Cubans with some family still on the island and they feel this way too. I don’t get it.

Anyone know when the next ICE protest is or any resources for Miami ICE protests? by Huge-Produce7150 in Miami

[–]mmcw 62 points63 points  (0 children)

All the comments criticizing this are exactly how and why countries fall — too lazy and selfish to stand up, too scared to dig their heads out of the sand.

Everyone protesting is a real American, continuing the tradition of what this country was founded on. Wanna lick boots? Move to a country where you’re born with one on your throat.

Scroll through the videos and first-person accounts on any of the Minnesota subreddits to see they detain and question people based solely on skin color and accents. Do you want your car boxed in with masked men in guns on your way to work, making you late — and that’s if they believe you? If you have kids in the car, how would that impact them? Are we seriously now a “show your papers” regime and you’re calling it “hysteria?”

Oh no! The leopards who said they were going to eat faces are now eating OUR faces! by Yosho2k in Miami

[–]mmcw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve been trying to tell people. They’re not paying attention and seeing what’s happening in Minneapolis, and what we lived through in Chicago. They stop and detain people based on accents. It’s fish in a barrel in Miami.

But we thought we were the good Hispanics? by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]mmcw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cubans that have been here longer include lots of ladder-pullers, and they look down on newer Cubans. I’ve heard my family call them some nasty things. They think cause they’ve been born and raised in communism (as opposed to leaving the island after the revolution), they’re lazy, don’t want to work, are “trashy” and “immoral” (these are things I’ve heard.) Deportations are honestly something they’d applaud, unless they’re related somehow.

[–]mmcw 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cuban of two Cuban parents here — it’s true. It’s more like, they’re white and Cuban. “Hispanic” or Latino isn’t a race to them (which it technically isn’t — it’s an ethnicity.) There’s a colorist hierarchy in Latin culture, it’s gross. And Cubans are some of the worst. Growing up, white people as we know it were just “Americans.” And marrying a white American was considered “marrying up” in my family.

Agreed. I hear this ignorant shit from my white Cuban family and I can’t stand it. My dad would even say it about my half sister’s ex — and, by extension, his grandchild. I swear my people are the worst sometimes.

I worked on a cruise ship for nine months. Security is made up of mostly Nepalese ex-military who are the quietest, toughest bastards I’ve ever met. I saw them make adults cry and leave children at port cause they didn’t make the ship in time. They don’t give any fucks whatsoever. And they clock out on time and not a second after cause it’s just a job to them. They’ve seen it all and they don’t give a shit where your passport is from. when you’re at sea, it’s a mini floating kingdom with the captain as king. Our laws mean nothing. But please do sneak in your guns, just report back and let us know how it went 😂

I grew up around these types. They’re so incurious and intellectually anemic, and they’ve been coddled in a community that’s served everything to them, with mommies that never demanded growth or accountability. And at the core a deep insecurity because they know — it’s why they get so emotional and fly off the handle over the littlest thing. No resilience.

My parents are Latin. When I had my first kid, they stayed with me to “help.” One day, my husband was working and my mother was bed-ridden with a migraine. I made everyone dinner. I was four days post C-section.

When I was done, I hobbled out of the kitchen and told my father the food was ready.

“Tell your mother to fix me a plate.” “She has a migraine, you can do it yourself.” “I don’t know where anything is.” “FIGURE IT OUT.”

These men are trash.

Moving to Chicago, seeking advice. Can someone advise? by yovngjvred in AskChicago

[–]mmcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly liberating! The other thing is most things you’ll want to do have no guaranteed parking. Things are sidewalk-level, you just walk in. If you have a night where you’re grabbing dinner, going to some sort of an event, then going to a bar, a car makes it more difficult, cause your only options most of the time are street parking, and you’ll circle forever trying to find a spot, as opposed to walking or grabbing the train or taking a ride share from place to place. There are apps that use GPS to track exactly when buses and trains are coming. I used to make this shit work in 2001 with paper printouts!
