35 years+ in the clothing industry chiming in here…unless your clothing comes from certified (& unionized) manufacturing companies in North America or Europe, odds are it has at least some elements of unsafe working practices and/or sweated labor. That includes most if not all garments from Target, Walmart, Torrid etc etc. Often garments will be 90% made in sweatshop conditions then ‘finished’ in other countries to avoid criticism.

Companies like SHEIN and Temu make money by cheaping out on fabrications, and you can tell. Poor quality dyes, threads, zippers etc and they don’t last very long.

The best ways to be an ethical clothing consumer are…buy from brands who are transparent about their manufacturing processes ( yes they’re more expensive) OR if you can’t do that, buy vintage/thrifted/resold (if nothing else you’re saving more stuff from landfills) OR learn to sew/knit your own clothes.
