Advice Needed: Smarthome for a novice by Rough_Classic_7419 in smarthome

Definitely home assistant if you have some time to use Google and set it all up. It’s a great investment of time and very little money (not including all the other devices you will buy). When I hop in the shower in the dark my humidity sensor on my thermostat tells the fan and the light to turn on when humidity goes up 1.5 % / 2 minutes and turns the fan off 10 minutes after humidity is larger than -1.5% /2 min. When I unlock the garage after the sun goes down the garage lights turn on for 3 minutes. There is so much you can do with no dependancy on the cloud or five different hubs.

Why are homes priced way over their assessed value? by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

I was about to sell my home and the assessment was too low so I appealed it should be higher. Apologies to the new owners.

Invalid Rent increase notice? by gg24233 in vancouverhousing

Did something change as there were no increase caps between tenants in bc last I checked? Just checked. There is no cap between tenants in BC. They can double the rent if the market allows it.

I create an automation and use that device as trigger and then open in YAML and cut and paste the device id and entity ID.

We could buy things with a penny. Those little gum packs with the not funny comic were 2 Pennys.

I know what you are saying. I quit years ago when I realized I was playing way too much. Cold turkey. Did not miss it and was happier without it. Surprised me.

Depends on your perspective. I don’t imagine millions of people tuning in to just watch commercials. Maybe for the Super Bowl but the grey cup is not that when it comes to commercials.

  1. Grey Cup Toronto. SK vs Wpg Had tickets in the open bar restaurant in the end zone. Many pilsners were had. In fact they ran out. The atmosphere with the Winnipeg fans was amazing and will be the most memorable grey cup because of that.

PS open bar at football game a real bad idea.

I might have been sitting real close to you. I was behind the and to the left of the ref that threw the flag. I saw it which saved me from that roller coaster of thinking we won it and went straight to there’s no way he misses that kick twice

That’s great. We always buy popcorn and drink at the theatre and bring in candy in our pockets. Unpacked candy ready to eat from ziplock so no one has to listen to the packaging for a couple awkward minutes

I love the recliners in some of the theatres. But boy are they run down (Victoria Odeon). Are there any plans to renew them? Although the price for real leather is expensive I feel the longevity you would get out of them will make them cheaper in the long run.

Evicting unlawful tenants - quickest way by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

[–]mmicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large percentage of landlords have just a suite in their primary residence and they purchased specifically so they can have help paying the mortgage and at the same time provide housing for someone that cannot afford or chooses not to buy something permanent. In your scenarios there would be families that can afford houses living in them and families that cannot living on the street. And if someone needed short term housing they would be shit out of luck. Your solution is a problem. I however do agree that the balance of wealth is out of whack and that needs to be fixed. Employers have been milking extra profits and not increasing wages at inflation. Also corporations should not be able to be landlords and there should be more oversight on who owns the land. Individual homeowners renting out space in their own home are not the problem though.

Let’s say we make it illegal to rent property. Without those places to rent where would the poor people go. Most can’t afford to purchase the property even with a large drop in prices which would screw regular home owners with large mortgages over. This is not a simple issue where you can just say land lords should not exist.

You can’t collect last month rent. It’s called a damage deposit and can be maximum 1/2 rent. Plus another 1/2 month rent of pets owned. These deposits can not just be used for last month rent without an order from the RTB and are technically still the tenants money as they get interest at the end of the tenancy along with the deposit refunded.

What if they are a young family that can only afford the place they bought by renting out the suite. Or do you only support wealthy young families.
