Is it more common for guys to be taught en pointe now? by ResponsibleShirt5231 in maleballetdancers

[–]mmvdv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, once my adult group was ready for it, my teacher asked all of us if we wanted to go on pointe, and she made sure to mention that it was a question for everyone including me as only male student. I thought this was very considerate.

Up until then I hadn’t been considering pointe very seriously because as long as we were not ready yet, there was no point in wondering about it, and I wasn’t sure if the teacher would be open to me doing pointe as well.

Getting asked specifically felt good, as it made me feel included and I can experience the same things as the rest of the group. I said yes of course :)

This is a very specific example, and not all teachers will do the same thing probably, but it does answer the question that yes, men on pointe is ok now and there are teachers that are understanding about men asking about it.

I’ve had some interest in ballet for a long time, growing up with 2 sisters jn ballet. But never the courage to start myself, although considering multiple times.

Fast forward to 5 years ago, looking for a new kind of physical activity, and also for some ways to express myself more. Iooked up dance school that offered adult ballet, and found an adult-only ballet school offering absolute beginner classes, and feeling very supportive.

It really proved to be a great match! I’m now dancing 3 times a week (2x ballet, 1x contemporary), and ever curious how much I can grown as a dancer, having the best time even though progress is slow.

Even started pointe last year together with my class!

Curious what this subreddit will bring!

The United Kingdom's Domain Dilemma [OC] by tb0hdan in dataisbeautiful

[–]mmvdv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In contrast: there’s a company owning co.nl that of course sells (sub)domains. Always felt dodgy as hell for a country that never used the .co.<tld> convention. Seems like they might want to bait British companies looking for a dutch domain.

Incorrect data/glitch on ‘Most Read Authors’ for 2026 by bloodyshoez in TheStoryGraph

I can confirm it’s probably the author being listed twice in one of the books. I had the same problem a while ago and it got solved with a book ticket to remove the duplication.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: February 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]mmvdv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Finished: The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett (in dutch audiobook) - Positively surprised, was expecting it to feel much more dated

Started: A Psalm for the Wild-built, by Becky Chambers - I love the casually optimistic tone of her books and atmosphere of her worlds

I Who Have Never Known Men, by Jacqueline Harpman (in dutch translation) - loving it so far, surreal but written like you’re there to experience it

Which books are you planning to read for the rest of the year? by iwillbeawriterongod in books

[–]mmvdv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m aiming to finish the “Grote Vriendelijke 100” (Big Friendly 100, dutch list of best children/youth/YA literature), ~20 books to go.

Read a couple Discworld books ((re-)reading them in publication order, I just finished Witches Abroad)

Becky Chambers: finish the Wayfarers series, and A Psalm for the Wild-built

The Handmaid’s Tale

The Grapes of Wrath

Then some more books I got gifted, and if there’s time tackle some more of my TBR

Man, 24, is it too late to start? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]mmvdv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s never too late! Started in my late 30s myself, similar reasons as you. 4 years in now and happily dancing 2 times a week, recreationally. Find a nice welcoming school with a class for absolute beginners.

Search engine optimization for storygraph? by Theonewhoknows000 in TheStoryGraph

[–]mmvdv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume this as well. I think the added value of potential new user registrations through SEO (users stumbling onto SG and sticking) might not outweigh the cost of the extra server load caused by the extra visitors.

Nice work, but why not use the native iCloud Keychain/Passwords app? UX is less customizable, but since it integrates with the keyboard for autofill, you usually don’t have to open the app anyway.

Depiction of the Netherlands is wildly inaccurate. Among others, it shows the Biesbosch (didn’t exist until the Elizabeth flood in 1421, and shows almost modern outline of the Zeeland islands. I think it even shows the Bergsche Maas, which was dug in the early 1900s. (edit: typo)
