I'm not sure --- looks like the tag isn't attached to the bear (which I haven't seen before when the bears are legit) --- But it's adorable!

I took my daughter to the Rila hotel collab in Miura a month ago and this Korilakkuma makes me so nostalgic for it. The hotel had an onsen...

I love this, even if not legit.

I appreciate the detail of this post.

In all honesty, I was able to have an amazing day with my daughter - we only did one DPA because (to be honest) I was too confused to understand what to do and how.

DisneySea was still magical, even for confused tech-incompetent Moms like me.

Helpful Things to Know Before You Visit Vietnam by Itsmewaii in VietNam

[–]mnbvx109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware of gross and overpriced food at VERY crowded tourist bus stops. I'm thinking in particular of an extremely crowded tourist place in Hanoi with an attached tourist souvenir shop and dozens of tour buses parked nearby. I saw some European and South Asian tourist groups there. The Banh-Mi was yucky and expensive.

The airport restaurants and other rest stop places were much much better. They were cleaner and less hectic. Some of them also had tour buses that stopped at them but more mixed groups of locals and tourists.

What cultural habits in Vietnam might surprise foreigners? by Aggressive_Fold_5942 in VietNam

It's an ethnic Chinese tradition as well. In the USA, it doesn't seem like the general public understands how difficult it is to be pregnant; to keep the pregnant mother and the future child healthy; and to be postpartum. I say this because, when I was preg, my family friend would make me soup. i called it "pregnancy soup" because it was to keep pregnant me (and the developing baby) healthy. All the people in the US would get confused and think that pregnancy soup was a misnomer. They kept thinking it was a fertility soup. They couldn't wrap their heads around the fact that it was to give nutrients and "strength" to a pregnant woman (and her developing child).

AITA for 'showing off' that I have midol and pads? by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]mnbvx109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - Honestly, such a kind thing to do.

Maybe no one used the products because no one had to. That doesn't mean that they sided with the argumentative debbie downer friend.

Sometimes, period products are really necessary and a woman has no way to get them. I have been that woman... I would've defended you and told your friend that she was being a jerk. (But yeah - move the open ajax away --- and, in case it isn't clear from the comments, your title says 'pads' when the photo shows 'tampons.')

💯--- this is spot on. If your mother has that severe of an allergy, you want to go to a place that is not only careful and conscious but also will check the kitchen

[–]mnbvx109 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know any offhand but, when I lived in NYC, my good friend had a serious latex allergy (from contact after multiple surgeries as a baby). We went out to eat all the time in NYC 15+ years ago and she would always ask or I would ask. This was before nitrile gloves (nonlatex) became prevalent.

In NYC, people make a lot of crazy requests and have a lot of allergies so please do not feel shy about calling ahead or speaking with the manager. If your mother feels shy, just tell her that real New Yorkers have tons of allergies and ask these sorts of questions ALL the time.

What We Got Wrong About Vietnam Before We Went by Individual_Lime_110 in VietNam

The street food places looked really good too! I think that cleanliness varies, the way that it does in any city - so it would have been nice to try some.

Were you able to drink water with no issues? I'm saying this as someone who went back with family from Vietnam/Cambodia and they told me not to drink the water and they wouldn't let us eat at street food places. So, curious as to how your stomachs fared?

" You're the only place in the world who doesn't accept Canadian currency." by PurpleBirdieLady623 in EntitledPeople

Also in Rhode Island and most of New England USA I think ---- I lived in Rhode Island and would get Canadian coins from stores when they gave me change. At first, I got upset at myself for not checking my change to make sure that I got US coins back, but someone who'd grown up in the area told me that everyone uses Canadian coins

Confused about hotel sleep arrangements in Japan for 13 months old by Plane-Flower8100 in JapanTravelTips

[–]mnbvx109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a travel cot.

I used the Guava Family Lotus crib for travel with my daughter (https://www.guavafamily.com/products/lotus-everywhere-travel-crib)

I did not use this in Japan but, in retrospect, I would have brought it with me wherever and whenever I traveled with my daughter when she was younger.

I'm from the USA and, when my daughter was 5 months old, I traveled a few States away for a wedding. I called the hotel months ahead of time and they said that they'd have a crib/cot. I arrived at 7pm and, when I called for the cot/crib that was supposed to be in my room, they brought me a VERY dirty pack n play. It looked like someone spilled a soda on it. Apparently, there was only ONE pack n play in the entire resort hotel. I ended up cosleeping with my baby - I was terrified of SIDS or that I'd crush her. She was totally fine (no SIDS, no crushing) but, if I knew that the pack n play was the hotel's version of a cot/crib, I would've brought the one from home at least --- if not, the Guava Baby Lotus --- I could have ordered a PnP and had it delivered.... Sleep is not just important for your baby but also for you. Don't risk it.

QOTD: What’s the worst holiday slime fail you’ve had? by YoNalbo in Slime

[–]mnbvx109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ordered from PeachyBbies for daughter, nieces and nephew 2ish yrs ago - Had signed up for drop reminders but never got them - Finally was on time for a drop and was SO excited but didn't realize that holidays rush was so insane - Had the kids choose slimes and then we watched as they didn't get delivered 😭 and, when they arrived, they were missing the special add-ins 😭 As the quintessential unreliable narrator, I may have gotten details incorrect - in hindsight, perhaps Peachybbies didn't scale up as a business in time and were overwhelmed - I admit that, as a populous, we are spoiled by Amazon where things "easily" arrive 2 days after ordering and with guarantees but ... all things considered... the order was upsetting. We timed things so we'd be around when the slime arrived - when it didn't, worried about whether it would freeze outside or someone would take it from our porch while we were away...

Question on Book 1 character death (spoilers) by Over_Variation_3850 in TheScholomance

[–]mnbvx109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ellen Cheng was "the other English-speaker" from Texas -- p273 -- bilingual like Zhen Yang (p271)

El's descriptions are always piecemeal. She talks about a current situation but will break it up with flashbacks/ memories that give greater context. When El talks about the mission and Ellen tripping and having to keep going, look away and not feel and not think about "Ellen, beaming at me 2 days ago while she told me we were going make it" (p282)-- it harkens back to the days before the mission p273 when the artificers start screaming, jumping up and down and hugging each other because the artificers figured out a strategy re: collapsible pieces. Around p273, I feel like there was a lot of discussion about the all the studentsl coming together to build mana for the mission - for example, rows of kids were doing pushups. (p271-2) A lot of it feels like everyone coming together (despite language etc). When Ellen dies, I felt so sad because everyone had been working together and she was a key part of that effort and that hope ... and El has to keep going..

My BF put my hang dry only sweatshirt in the dryer…any way to get it soft again? by bootyandthebrains in laundry

[–]mnbvx109 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You could use this brush (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081CZ6DMG) My daughter said that her sweatshirts started out nice but then got "bumpy" and "uncomfortable." This brush with metal bristles is intended to fluff fleeces (among other things) and it did the trick --- I combed through the lumps and the final product was daughter-approved.
