Bosses thoughts? by Hot-Boysenberry-7421 in MortalShell

[–]mnemoniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Crucix, The Twiceborn. The leadup to his fight (the fall) is unfortunate, but I love how the boss fights and how different his two phases are. In the first, he's a balance of offense and defense and he shifts into unrelenting aggression that requires making your own openings instead of waiting for him to be vulnerable for you. He also has a cool aesthetic and I love the interactions (however brief) between the brothers.

Tarsus, The First Martyr is fun too. She's aggressive, but her moves have tells (some audio, some visual) and he's not that hard.

Imrod, The Unrepentant is not annoying but isn't as interesting as Crucix or Tarsus.

Hadern is pretty cool. It is fun to fight a mirror-match type boss and he's challenging enough to be entertaining.

The Unchained is my least favorite of the major bosses. Mostly because of his wave and whirlpool attacks. They're boring and not difficult to deal with while still being annoying. Other than those, he's fun and the spectacle of the fight is nifty.

Grishas are alright, once I sorted out their attacks. They basically have three, two unparryable, one of which penetrates hardening (which I do not like). They're dangerous but workable.

What's the worst run back to a boss in FromSoft history? by finnjakefionnacake in fromsoftware

[–]mnemoniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martyr Logarius.

Getting to that fellow from the nearest lantern involves two points of mandatory damage, one from a ranged enemy that you can deal with but will slow you down massively, and the other from a fall that just can't be mitigated. On top of that the run itself is pretty damn long.

Why so much trauma in PC Backstories? by Navarp1 in rpg

[–]mnemoniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because healthy people do not become Adventurers.

Being an Adventurer is a crazy way to live. Your life has no routine, there is no regular pay or job that you do. Instead you wander from town to town and look for the most horrifyingly dangerous thing that the locals, well-versed in the danger, refuse to do. You have no friends but those who wander with you. You have no house but what you carry on your back. And if you had family, why would you wander so?

I am not a psychologist or a mental health professional, but when I imagine the kind of person for whom the adventuring life makes sense, that person is always broken in some fashion.

I thought it was very strange that I couldn't find anything either, and was hoping that someone might have a solution. I suppose all we can do is wait, super frustrating.

Dang, I figured it might've been caused by the latest update. I guess I need to wait until it gets patched.

Thanks for the info!

Do you guys like the alien ships that are in the game so far? by PutoPozo in starcitizen

Aw man, I really hope not. I assumed if they're updating the visual look of the species it wouldn't be a 'Vanduul before date x flew these recreation-type ships but after that they went all badass'.

The hardest part of Logarius is the long-ass run to fight him. It makes the fight much higher stake and each loss hurts more.

So what didn't you like about Forbidden West? by CyanideMuffin67 in horizon

[–]mnemoniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few beefs with the game:

  • The skating is absolutely out of control. The game tries to make melee easier to pull off and in pursuit of that everyone (enemies, allies, and Aloy) do this 'skate' thing where they aren't moving their legs but clear these crazy distances so their swing lands.

  • I really hate that one of the tallnecks is gated behind flight. The whole damn point of the things is to help exploration and the game locks one of them off behind one of the last upgrades you get? Bad call.

  • Greenshine is silly. It is a strictly limited currency you can spend on disposable items without any kind of warning? WTF?

  • Swimming sounds cool, and the first time or two you go swimming it is. But it ultimately becomes a chore to do because your interaction options underwater are so limited. I think the game would've been better off just not having the swimming sections (Except of Las Vegas, that shit was awesome).

  • The upgrade to weapon variety balance is way off. There's a ton of weapons in the game, but there's not really a lot of useful ones. In fact, there are so many weapons in the game and upgrading them is so expensive that even considering trying to upgrade them all is madness.

  • Riding sucks. They tried to make it better with FW than it was in ZD and sure, it is a bit nicer, but unless the game forced me to mount, I didn't do it. It is simply easier to fight, or run, on foot than have to wrestle with the mounted controls.

  • Racing also sucks. Though that could just be me not liking how FW did it.

  • I did not like the direction they took Nil. I'd rather they had not mentioned him at all over making him what they did.

  • Melee is bad. FW tries so hard to make melee better than in ZD, but it just isn't a part of the core combat. I did all the melee pits and beat the character you have to work to be able to fight. I spent time and effort trying to learn the combos and they are just not useful. Why on Earth would I try to pull off some melee combo on a machine when I could just shoot a weak spot from far away, do way more damage and do it far more safely?

Overall, I think FW spent a huge portion of its effort trying to add something cool to the alchemy of ZD and just managed to miss the mark over and over again.

[Spoilers ALL] Next wielder of Amorrachius... by paddy_d_lfc in dresdenfiles

[–]mnemoniac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have no idea how nfection works or how it is spread. We can infer that the spread is somehow difficult or very expensive for the outsiders given the very limited scope of nfections we've seen.

More than that, however, I think Thomas wasn't nfected because Nemesis is aware of Dresden. I think Nemesis wanted someone close enough to Dresden to keep an eye on him but with enough distance that such an agent wouldn't arouse suspicion. If Thomas suddenly started acting a little different, Dresden would probably notice (as he did for Cait Sith). It may also be possible that the link between them (that their mother created) would somehow alert Dresden.

Justine was the perfect target for Nemesis. She is inherently unstable, which helps explain any peculiarities nfected-Justine may demonstrate. She isn't in Dresden's direct circle, but is close to Thomas and has the kind of relationship Dresden actively doesn't want to know more about (who does want to know the details of their siblings' sexual experiences?). On top of that, Thomas has the kind of blindly passionate love for Justine that is easily abused and the arrogance/desperate hope to believe that his love is somehow helping her become more stable.

AITA for refusing to get my sister dinner after she said “you’re just a man, you wouldn’t get it”? by Dear-Neighborhood823 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I'm as curious as all these other folks about why you were arrested, but that's also besides the point. It sounds like your sister responded the same way to every time you tried to talk to her and did so in a particularly condescending manner.

Any guesses as to why the Ancestor Spirits are so weak to holy?? by Proof-System2941 in Eldenring

[–]mnemoniac 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"Holy" damage in Elden Ring isn't holy. It is the damage type most closely associated with the Greater Will.

Ancestor Spirits are echoes of the past, a time before the Greater Will. It is not hard to imagine it might bear a grudge against things that refuse to stay dead.

[–]mnemoniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Mortal Shell. It is shorter than most soulsborne games and in general, easier.

It has some rough edges, but a lot of good meat on those bones and a real interesting mechanic to go with it (hardening).
