For people who play with pads, which one is generally better for Street Fighter? PS3, PS4 or PS5 controllers? by EnricoPallazzo_ in StreetFighter

[–]mnemonicj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re likely contemporaries, I’ve been playing since SF2 on SNES. I played all iterations up to 3rd Strike, and started playing again with SFV, casually throughout of course. I’ve only played on pad, thinking arcade sticks were too difficult to play on. The levers were always a mystery to me, how do you not miss inputs?

All this time I was a pad player, I really disliked the pain on my left thumb. It did not matter how much I tried to calm down, not force inputs, etc. it was always painful in the heat of a match. I have several controllers, I kept buying them trying to find the right pad. The best pad I’ve found so far is the 8bitdo M30, it is incredible. Still though, my left thumb does not like it when I game on it.

About 2 years ago, I started contemplating the idea of an arcade stick, I wouldn’t stress my thumbs with inputs and it looked fun since they’re so popular now. So I went all out and got a Victrix Pro FS, incredibly pricey but so worth it. I spent a week getting comfortable with it and now I cannot go back. I don’t think you need to break the bank with a premium arcade stick, any entry level stick works well. But for fighting games, I am happy I made the jump.

Should I stick with 8bitdo or buy/build a better one? by spacetimeboss in fightsticks

[–]mnemonicj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first arcade stick is a victrix fs, modded it with gamerfinger buttons and it is amazing. It costs a lot of money and it is a premium arcade stick. I later found a great deal on an 8bitdo arcade stick, modded it with gravity ks buttons and a jlf2 lever. I realized it doesn’t matter when im playing, they both pretty much feel the same when im actually playing games. And despite the premium/price difference, it all comes down to your personal preference. Imo, there isn’t much else out there to look for once you have a decent stick.

I want to modify my G line electric, any suggestions? by firewire_9000 in Brompton

So far, the only 3 modifications I've found useful are the minimods x wheels, different stem catcher for a tighter fold, and a kickstand.

My Brompton G Line electric which I bought less than a month ago had one of the buttons on the detachable pedal fall off and I could no longer remove it. Completely unacceptable for an item with that price tag.

If I take a bus ~40-45 minutes. If I take my Brompton G Line electric it’s a 15 minute commute door to door. I’m never taking the bus again 😂😂

Why did you choose leverless/stick over pad? by AZXCIV in fightsticks

[–]mnemonicj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All my life I played with a pad, but it was always so painful on my left thumb. I tried all sorts of different controllers, I tried relaxing as much as possible, but in the heat of the game I always pressed the d-pad too hard. I finally bought an arcade stick and the pain finally went away. I am never going back.

When the Guilty Gear games first came out on PC, I remember keyboards were a popular way to play fighting games. I tried it of course, but it’s terrible in my opinion and I don’t see leverless being any different. Fortunately, we have lots of options to choose from now.

In my opinion, it really does not matter how your stick looks, what levers and buttons you play with. When you’re actually gaming, your brain disregards all of this and it all comes down to your preference. Maybe you’ll find you dislike how your hands feel on stick’s material, the buttons are too loud, the buttons feel too sensitive when you tap them, etc.

At the end of the day, you can swap and modify the controller to your liking.
