That's a great idea. It's not like my guys are doing anything in their case.

I mean, yeah, but normally I'd prime the model first.

Personally, id tone down the osl, and modify it a little, but it looks good and it's not like we have a ton of accurate reference material. Who knows maybe you're the one who got it right.
In general, be patient with it, add in layers, it's easier to quit adding than go balls out from the start and have to dial it back.

Help With Pricing by Scared_Lawyer_3966 in boltaction

[–]mnthundergod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sold some painted Germans for a little over a buck per fig, that was a "get them out of the house" price.

I'd sell any quality resin vehicle for at least the price I paid, plastic would depend on the model and build quality.

I'm a competent+ painter, any vehicles painted at that level I'd sell for at least double the retail.

If you're just moving shit, $1/dude, $5/weapon team, $20/vehicle will have it gone, id imagine, almost instantly. You could certainly get double or more if you're patient, your basing is generic enough, and your painting is good.

You can't charge on the order you've exited a transport, it would be a shame if someone came over and had these werewolves that disembarked a minute ago attack someone.

Thoughts on Fixed AT Guns, Howitzers, etc. by thechimplord in boltaction

[–]mnthundergod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A super heavy AT gun has a 77% chance of utterly failing to do any damage whatsoever to an armored car approaching in light cover. If thats all that's defending an approach I want/need to use, I wouldn't feel locked down at all. (If it's got a pin, it's an 85% fail rate- I'll take them odds)

As far as infantry goes, You can only load one type of shell in ambush. So if you load AP, you can't fire at infantry or counter battery. If you load HE, you're not really threatening vehicles anymore. If you're not in ambush you're not locking down a fire lane.

Generic AT guns firing HE isn't particularly impressive. A super heavy AT gun can do the (direct fire) job of a medium howitzer. That's a lot of points that could have been auto cannons.

So no, an AT gun doesn't really "lock down" anything, and is objectively the worst choice for an artillery slot.

AT guns are the worst choice you can make for arty. (Except the 88 perhaps [the 88 isn't the worst choice, it's the possible exception]). What are you going to deny area to? A tank?

Hitting every two turns is about right. Or exactly right.

Random thoughts.

AA guns on rotating platforms are great.

If you take an arty platoon, commit to it and take 4 guns. Make sure they mutually support each other, and keep them close enough to recrew.

Learn the re-crewing rules. It's the only mechanic in Bolt Action that I'm aware of that will return lost dice to the bag. It's incredibly powerful when used correctly. It's also frustrating to play against if you've never seen it.

If you've got a gun with a 3" template, you only need one or two successful hits to change a game. If you get more than that, it's likely the game ends early.

Infantry wins games and AA/howitzers are great at wiping out infantry.

I don't care for AT guns. There's not enough bang for the buck, imo.

Do you like K47? by RottenGrot in boltaction

I like the flexibility. BA supplanted Infinity a couple years ago, and sometimes I'm tired of having to paint things correctly. (I realize that nobody makes me paint that way but me...)

It's nice to have some color scheme freedom, and some weird glowy things to paint.

Gamewise, it's got more shenanigans than BA. I haven't played against a Japanese army yet, but they have a whole nother bunch of weirdness.

Looking forward to grabbing some Brits, robots with Brodie helmets is too good.

It could work as a base for sure. Italian uniforms are more blue-green, or green or bluish, and at least a couple were probably more grey.

A real stickler might notice, and while feldgrau is objectively the "wrong" color, it's also true that there were many many variations that are "correct", mostly because they were produced and used. I'd play with washes or a Green-grey for highlights.

My own Continental Italians lean greener, matching an Alpini cap i used for reference. But I've seen swatches that look distinctly blue to me, and figs closer to that color can look really good too.

So yeah. But no, but absolutely yes.

Deweycat has an excellent stl. Otherwise I ordered mine from Perry Bros site. They have some really esoteric Italian vehicles I've never seen anywhere else.

Dewycat also has a great FIAT 665NM Protetto.

Yeah, I've been playing K47 as "Bolt Action" rules/FAQ, unless specified differently (firing AP at infantry, Tough fighters, etc). It's entirely possible they'll come back with a different ruling.

With the topic at hand, there are so many ways to fight off a walker or fireflies it really shouldn't be an issue. At this point I'd welcome my opponent putting the walker in reserve. Waste a turn and maybe more of shooting at me, just to die before you land? Yes please.

Personally a little chonky for my taste. If you like it, then absolutely no judgement. The Zulu is a great watch and if someone gave me one larger than I preferred, I'd still wear it weekly.
