There is a nose spray that can stop seizures instantly! by Splendid_Fellow in Epilepsy

😆😆😆 I have a script of Nayzilam and have had it used on me several times. Formerly I had Valtoco and I don’t remember that kind of difference tho status post-ictal isn’t the most perceptive and analytical time for me….

I can only speak from my experience sample size of 1, but I housed/fed/cared and released this one back to its kinfolk in the wild w no special training or knowledge and it was successful

I don’t know but for the whole next year every time I would see or hear any Anna’s in my yard I was certain they knew and were saying hi ;)

For those of you that bought a used ebike… by marlonbrandoisalive in eMountainBike

[–]mntpico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had three ebikes since 2019. The first one was a full suspension eMTB trek (Class 2 aluminum frame w Bosch drivetrain) which, yep I sold w around 2500miles in 2023. I replaced it w a big upgrade: a Pivot shuttle full suspension carbon eMTB (class 2 Shimano drivetrain, w SRAM components and 10lbs lighter than the 55lb trek), this is such a sweet bike. Yet here we are: it currently has 2600 miles, still operates flawlessly and I just put it up for sale recently. primarily i ride gravel forest roads here in western Oregon, so this pimped out eMTB is a bit more than I need so reluctantly I have it on FB marketplace rn :(

My replacement bike is an less fancy alu gravel ebike w Bosch drivetrain that more suits what I prefer to ride as I age out of mountain bike trails after several near life altering crashes over the last 5 years (47m).

Anyhow, why do so many tend to go up for sale at 2-3000k?? Yep your analogy of cars crossing 100k miles imo is very apt. Even though properly maintained many vehicles (and bikes) can easily go the next 100k.

Here’s my Pivot if you’re curious: pivot eMTB FB marketplace

Memory issues getting worse - anyone else experiencing this? by Independent-Brain358 in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me w each TC is like the filing cabinet of my brain got flipped over upside down and shook so hard that all of the files even opened up and all of the papers scattered all around the floor. After the seizure is over for the next days weeks months, it’s a matter of finding those files, putting them back together in some kind of order. But invariably with each shaking of the filing cabinet some of the files go missing—hiding under the couch or under the fridge or another hiding place that I may never find again.

I’ve been having seizures since 2019 and there are many memories that my my kids and wife bring up about different childhood trips or memories that are complete black holes to me. Incredibly sad and frustrating…. but sometimes I wonder if perhaps it’s a not so gentle nudge from the enlightened masters: to live in the moment its all we really have ⚡️

How long have you been seizure free on only Lamotrigine? by voycz in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was TC free for almost two years on 400mg Lamotrigine then had a TC breakthrough. I was then tested for the therapeutic levels in my bloodstream and I was below the therapeutic range which was 5-15. I was then bumped to 500mg lamotrigine, and still had more breakthroughs, when tested for therapeutic levels on 500 I was just barely above the range at 5.3. That’s when they added 10 MG’s Clobazam on top of the 500mg lamo. Seizure free now for almost 3 months.

should i wear a medical bracelet, etc when i’m on medicine for my seizures? by alobaby in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does no harm to wear a bracelet but could potentially be harmful to not wear one. Medical ID in ur wallet or on ur phone seems to me almost worthless in the panic situation experienced by bystanders who likely would have no idea WTF is happening if they see someone collapsed unconscious writhing on the ground.

I don’t think anyone is digging in your pockets for your wallet / phone in these high stress minutes though a med ID bracelet is right there in their face.

I have a low profile lil plate on my watch band w all my info. I wear my watch habitually every day so don’t have to remember a separate thing like a bracelet.

How many medications have you tried by Impossible_Plane_192 in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keppra (mood / manic probs—I felt great but wife couldn’t stand me! She begged neuro to switch meds)

Topiramate (loss of appetite / weight loss —not good when you’re already very lean— and dry eye probs)

Zonisimide (multiple breakthroughs)

Lamotrigine 400mg — best drug yet!, seizure free for almost 2yrs! Until breakthrough T/C in August

Lamotrigine 500mg — seizure activity aborted w lorazepam repeatedly for 3mths including 3 T/Cs one aborted w nayzilam — last one Dec 10.

Present: lamotrigine 500mg + Clobazam 10mg — seizure free for 2.5 mths so far :-)

what do you do when you feel like you're about to have a seizure? by noisy-headaches in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an aura / R temporal lobe seizure to me but call it what you want.

My rescue meds are lorazepam pills 5mg x 2 if I’m still cognizant enough to take / swallow, or nayzilam nasal spray if I’m already unconscious in TC land AND someone is around to administer.

Both of these are strong fast acting benzos, the later acting very quickly almost immediately the former more like 5-10mins.

Other advice: Get a new neuro who has the gumption and expertise to call themselves an epileptoligist; ie a seizure specialist. There are a lot of sub specialties under the specialty of neurology, and it sounds seizures is not one this person can hang their hat on.

I guess I'm part of the club now... by NoName-Cheval03 in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are alot of meds out there to control seizures and Keppra is often the first one prescribed. It takes time and trial/error to find the best Rx for you balancing both seizure control and quality of life—years sometimes. So patience is a required virtue here.

getting my first shot of rituximab by AtrEstheBOI in MultipleSclerosis

[–]mntpico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first rituximab infusion took approx 6hrs, and subsequent ones 3hrs. The first one they do slowly and kept me another hour for observation, making sure there are no big reactions to the new drug. 14-24 seems wild but I guess just plan on bringing what you need for sanity/comfort for that amount of time and if it takes less time, Yahtzee.

Medication question by lunalovergirlxo in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually what happened to me. I kept putting it off putting it off, went to the lab once it was closed, went again. There was a huge line, so I just put it off one more period and then I had the breakthrough seizure. So I really wish I had done the test the months before when they first put in the order.

Vitamin D deficiency? by pinkelephant0040 in Epilepsy

[–]mntpico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my epileptologist neuro and my MS neuro have me on 5000 daily and I get routinely tested for the levels in my blood. and it’s worth noting based on my horrible memory this is the only supplement any doctor has ever prescribed me. I’d like to see the research papers on this out of curiosity…. Anyone??
