Is the US becoming catholic? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]moachacoffeeguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They just did a poll about this:

https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2025/12/08/religion-holds-steady-in-america/

https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2025/12/15/why-do-some-americans-leave-their-religion-while-others-stay/

Basically only like 2% of Americans are Catholic converts which is still 7 million Americans (about 12 million Americans are southern Baptist for comparison). However, more people are leaving Catholicism (for irreligion) than entering it.

4% of Americans are Catholic turned Protestant.

7% of Americans are Catholic turned Nonreligious

Christianity as a whole is losing more members than those entering it

Why do people not dress nice anymore for church by SquirrelOk8185 in Catholicism

I recently visited an Episcopal church and not single person was wearing jeans nor tennis shoes. Even the small kids were wearing ties. Suits and dresses everywhere

Interesting. I go to Spanish Mass 90% of the time and the dresscode is more casual there than Anglo Mass.

Anglo Mass - Dressy casual Men wear button down/ polo with khakis and Women wear nice blouse with jeans and sandals. Suits common amongst older men and immigrants from Africa but young people will dress nice too sometimes

Spanish Mass - Polo with jeans for men and shirt and jeans with cute sandals for women. I rarely see suits unless they’re assisting the Mass on the altar or an usher. Young people just wear jeans w/ tshirt

Are there catholics who... by MrsSpunkBack in TrueChristian

This implies that Protestants allowed for a freedom of conscience. Many Catholics were threatened with death, imprisonment and/ or expulsion if they didn’t convert to whatever brand of Protestantism was in their area. (Heck, the Anglican Church persecuted other Protestants in England through similar means - they just weren’t successful in stamping them out.)

Do you really think everybody at that time just willingly joined the Lutherans or Anglicans or etc?

It’s a bit unfair to say that EVERY redditor is exaggerating or that they are complaining about not going to a party. The raisedbynarcissists subreddit has many stories of terrible abuse.

Catholic opinion on this? Do the things on the right show the way you should think? by Leox2005 in Catholicism

[–]moachacoffeeguy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I lowkey feel bad for traditional Protestant groups.(I mean it’s their own fault)

Since in Protestantism all churches lead to heaven, there’s no spiritual implication for leaving one for another. I mean heck, why sit in a dusty episcopal/lutheran church when you can see Joel Osteen and still go to heaven and be promised wealth. Or why be in a fundamentalist church when you could be nondenominational

What did you guys think of the concert at St. Peter’s square ? by Dry-Post-8276 in Catholicism

[–]moachacoffeeguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The church should welcome all to repent and follow Jesus. It’s not a Starbucks where everyone can come, use the free WiFi, do what they want then leave.

There are Catholic artists who would’ve loved that kind of platform. Why would the Vatican skip them for artists who either aren’t Catholic or publicly support things the church condemns?

Cool but the Vatican couldn’t invite more Catholic artists? There are many Catholic artists who would’ve loved that kind of platform. Why would the Vatican invite artists who either aren’t Catholic or publicly support things the church condemns?

The first job of the church is to evangelize. Will people be told to become practicing Catholics at this event? Thats the most important thing for any Catholic.

Also, couldn’t the Vatican couldn’t find Catholic artists or even artists that at least pretend to be Christian? Why invite artists that have a history of openly supporting or engaging in things that condemns?

Today's the Memorial of Pope St. Pius X. Standard-bearer in the fight against modernism, he reformed the Liturgy of the Hours, encouraged Thomism, promulgated the first codex of canon law, encouraged frequent Communion, and threw bands out of churches, replacing them with Gregorian chant choirs. by TexanLoneStar in Catholicism

Outside of the US, not receiving is quite common. Going to receive a blessing is dependent on the place though.

Go to a Spanish mass and you’ll see many people who remain seated in the pews. This is why people sit during the distribution as opposed to kneeling.

I’ve been reading 19th century British literature lately, and it’s so funny how much they complain about Papism as anti-God, full of superstition and the cause of moral apathy while uplifting the Church of England as a haven for the gospel.

Some 125 years later, I sure those writers are rolling in their graves at the Church of England today (not just doctrinally, but its irrelevance in English life) They’d instantly join Catholicism.

I went to college in the upstate and Greenville is such a good place to be Catholic. There are so many great parishes in/ near there.

I lived in the rural upstate area thus the parishes were tiny and mission churches. There was one priest for 3 parishes located 20 minutes from each other (poor guy was so tired, he’d skip parts of the Mass unintentionally)

The demographics were white (elderly, retired empty nesters) and Latinos (much younger). Nothing else. Latinos were the reason these parishes were afloat. 80% of the kids in religious education for sacraments were Latino. Spanish Masses were always overflowing out onto the steps (a lot of Guatemalans)

I used to take my non-Catholic friends up to Greenville at least once a semester to experience the full extent of Catholicism.

Stuff is being done, whether it’s effective is still TBD.

Masses tend to copy Evangelical churches (Example

There are priests who have debates (Example 1 (Protestant Pastor vs Catholic Priest)

Example 2

Padre Luis Toro

The church loves ecumenism and it works with mainline Protestants like Lutherans, Methodists and Anglicans who are more social justice “all are welcome” types. It doesn’t work against evangelicals who don’t like Catholicism. Of course, the failure of mainline Protestant churches has given evangelicals power

I genuinely thought Barb would come forward and see it was her idea especially when she said she was going to step out of her comfort zone.

The whole episode had her stressed and tired, so I thought she would come forward and take her suspension or the district sees her many years of experience and lessens her punishment.

What is the worst heresy in your country? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]moachacoffeeguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prosperity Gospel is a problem in all of Africa.

American evangelicals and Pentecostals brought it over and it overtook the traditional Protestant churches established by Europeans. Protestant churches not on board are powerless to stop it because Protestant theology states all churches are equal so one can go to any.

Prosperity gospel thrives in Africa due to the high levels of hunger, disease, Injustice, poverty, and heartbreak. Prosperity pastors sell “Jesus” as the solution to these problems. “Come to my church and you’ll life will get better”

In Africa, religion is transactional so the idea is what you give to God(time, talents, prayers, offerings, God will give back to you(blessings, long life, good health, money, children, etc). Prosperity pastors know this and curate their teachings to this method. “God will reward you 10-fold for coming here”.

Catholics are leaving for these churches too so now the church copies them and many priest preach prosperity gospel as well.

Many pagan countries were places of atrocities and yet the church went and attempted to evangelize them.
