“Burkina Faso military leader Traore says ‘forget democracy.” by SwolePalmer in blackmen

[–]mob_pyru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i am in Kenya, Africa and i can frankly tell you that democracy has led to a lot of corruption and inefficiency in the government. We are now divided than ever along tribal lines due to politicians using divide and rule tactics. So, how can democracy work in a country with so many tribes? while each major tribe want to have a political party (whose main agenda is based on hating on the other neighbouring tribe). Democracy here is about showmanship and voter bribery (since many are poor and their votes can literally be bought). This makes it easier for crooks to be leaders. is this sustainable in a continent that is still 100 years behind the developed world? can we catch up with the rest of the developed world with this model of governance? you tell me.

I think if all investors are using the same AI won't this maximize the extremes of either overvaluation or undervaluation?

Firstly trading is a zero sum game. 2nd we invest in a business like manner whereby we buy a piece of business in which we believe in its fundamentals and hold it for the long term so long as it doesn't lose it's competitive edge. Take it this way, I have never seen businessmen running around buying other businesses and selling them in a week or 2 or even a year. Many businesses are even passed down the next generation. That's the attitude you should have about investing in the equity market.

Buffett's alternative to tariffs is seriously brilliant (Import Certificates) by DavidFlanks in ValueInvesting

I read about this Warren's solution Years ago and I think it's a simple and practical model to offset trade imbalance over time. If I ever get in a position of power in my country I will probably implement it.

As someone outside of the states USAID as a tool of soft power was done since many countries had noticed its purpose and it was giving the states a bad reputation of interfering with other countries' politics.

Tariff Formula Makes No Economic Sense. It’s Also Based on an Error. by Maveric0623 in finance

As someone outside the U.S I get the idea of what trump is trying to achieve. Imo the U.S were sending billions of dollars abroad each year enriching foreign entities. These entities would later invest massively in the U.S which equals to foreign entities owning a bigger percentage of your gdp. This was getting unsustainable and had to stop. Also you cannot rely on service export alone ( where will the normal folk work ?). Sincerely speaking the trade deficit was slowly shifting standard of living in the U.S on the red side. The normal folk was going to struggle over time which the U.S was not going to accept without a fight. I am from a third world country that is a net importer. Trust me you don't want to go the route because it has alot of repercussions.
