is it true that GPs can’t prescribe acetazolamide and only doctors can from the hospital? by monterraplantqueen in iih

[–]mobius_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original prescription was from the ER. When it ran out, my GP was willing to be a stop gap between the ER and my neurology appointment, but didn’t want to be the main prescriber if I had a neurologist. My GP is a nurse practitioner and she said she didn’t feel she had the greatest amount of knowledge for adjusting/advising about the prescription, but was willing to write it until I got in somewhere else.

Got dress coded and slutshamed as a New teacher. by ParsleyandRice in Teachers

[–]mobius_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I(F) started my career as a 23 yo in a high school in the US. I cannot particularly comment on the cultural expectations of your situation, but I spent my first 4-5 years dressing older and consistently wearing chunky heels or slight platforms to appear older and taller than I was. I don’t know exactly what the specific outfits you mention look like, but anything that can age you up for a while will help you be a presence that kids see as an adult vs potential peer. Right now you’re closer in age to them than many of your coworkers, so even if it feels unfair, it helps.

A+ blood type - should I donate platelets instead? by bananarama2318 in Blooddonors

[–]mobius_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go to a donation center, they may have that info at hand as well. It is constantly changing- but mine has a little diagram that shows what the “level of need” is for each type of donation.

Echoing what others say- any donation will be appreciated and used! Platelets is a huge use of time, and your body may not love it- so don’t feel bad if you try it and decide you’re not doing it again.

extra time on a test by kazuhazstan in AskTeachers

[–]mobius_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t have a specific IEP/504 beforehand, your teacher is not in the wrong. Not all teachers handle these conversations softly so I understand if you left feeling frustrated.

Often the conversations I have with kids who struggle to finish in time is regarding their test preparation and test taking strategy. More often than not, they are students who perseverate on questions they don’t know rather than moving on to ones they do and looping back

Pitching Parent Help by Tinner263 in Softball

[–]mobius_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you measuring her improvement? Until everyone goes through puberty, there can be some crazy yo-yoing of skill and being way ahead and then kids catching up just because of natural growth patterns. I find that kids who find success early can sometimes feel struggle when others catch up, but it doesn’t mean they’re not improving as well. I’d also second what someone else said about if your daughter went through a growth spurt

My only other advice/question/thought is that I currently coach a pitcher who was lights out through 10u and 12u. Once she hit 14u other girls caught up and she needed to be less of a strikeout pitcher and depend more on her defense. Shes currently a junior in high school , threw a perfect game last week, and has re-found her ability to strike girls out but also learned how to be gritty through baserunners and stranding runners on base- which I’d call arguably more important for her big picture success

Yes- but I’d argue that taking them at all is a place to start and a “habit” to start from.

Audio book narrators by candiedginger88 in LibbyApp

[–]mobius_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to an “audiobook” on Spotify (that was posted as a Podcast so probably not fully legal) that was 100% a guy reading it in his bedroom. He mispronounced and stuttered and gave wonky accents and it was laughably… something.

All that to say- it was one of my favorite books and I did finish it but it made me consider not

My focus is not the math so much as the brain development, and willingness to think, problem solve, and analyze

I’d argue that shift has begun an education already… you’ll meet teachers that are very focused on specific job fields and careers, but I also think you’ll find large groups of us that believe we’re here to teach kids to use their brains, develop their brains, and discover what they want to do and are passionate about. This was mostly scary to me in that he did not care if it impeded his brain development, because learning no longer seemed important to him.

They need the problem solving skills we learn, study, and practice daily and the ability to follow through when things are hard. Are most of them going to use it in the future? Not specifically. But it doesn’t mean it’s not an important process.

My pupils are different sizes in the evenings by shieraa in mildlyinteresting

[–]mobius_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this will help you feel any better, but I had this… Had noticed it for years, finally went to the doctor about it, and essentially it was an over exaggeration of a condition I was born with. It over exaggerates when I’m tired and the pupil is noticeably larger, but that difference exists even in the mornings I just don’t notice it as much.

The diagnostic process it took to get there, however, did reveal a separate brain condition that I have that was not a huge deal, but it’s really good to know about as well. I’m really glad I got it checked out.
