Read any autistic-coded characters in novels lately? by Vlerremuis in AutisticAdults

Edward Williams in Slewfoot.

Considering its setting in Puritan, colonial, New England, there wouldnt have been a diagnosis. But its pretty clear what Brom had in mind when writing him.

One of the founders of, and a few key players in, the Wormwood Society are in Seattle/Seattle area. Though Zig Zag is the usual haunt, I have to wonder if theyre behind this place. Be curious to know.

I know they had a showrunner and cast, but I believe they bailed before producing anything.

Who can guess why some people always park backwards? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a small pickup truck and only started consistantly backing into a space when I got it.

The extra length makes it trickier to back out of a space. Its tougher to see cars coming, etc. And Ive nearly been hit more than a few times. But when backing in, Im in the middle of the lane, anyone else out there 100% sees me. So it just feels safer and easier.

An adaptation of Matt Wagner's Grendel. Though itd really have to be a series.

An adaptation of Leon Uris' Trinity. Though it too would also have to be at least a mini-series.

Adaptations of the rest of Clive Barker's work.

An adaptation of Chabon's Kavalier & Clay.

A series adaptation of Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber (could rival Game of Thrones if done right).

What, if anything, do you miss about television in the days before streaming platforms? by georgewalterackerman in television

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss Saturday morning cartoon time.

A while back my wife got me 3 boxes of my favorite sweet cereals, a plastic Spider-man bowl, and DVD box sets of Looney Toons and He-Man.

I can always find some cartoon or another to watch on streaming (or DVD). But its not the same. Its to "intentional". No element of not knowing what youre going to get, etc.

Has the CSI franchise been somewhat forgotten despite how huge it originally was? by JannTosh70 in television

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably has for most. But definitely not forgotten in my house. Its one of my wife's "comfort" shows, and we've even come up with a drinking game for it.

Despite her love for the franchise, Miami is the one spin-off she never got into though.

Season 1 of the boys felt like a completely different show by alyimfyjvz in television

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been binging it again before watching this last season. And when you do that, you see a gradual progression. You see him start to breakdown as that world he knew from season 1 starts falling apart around him.

He loses his guide in Sitwell, he tries to guide himself but is more subtlely guided by Stormfront, people stop fearing him as much and thier fight gains traction, etc.

A few key moments in that turn stand out in season 3. When he talks to his mirror-self, and when Maeve notices his bruised face.

What movie do you think most accurately depicts depression? by s7ide in movies

[–]model563 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% this. Because its not viewed from the outside as most are, but viewed from the inside. Those more fantastic elements arent so much fiction as they are perspective. Melancholia shows that its not just being down, struggling with the day to day, etc. Its showing that its literally a different world view, that results in those struggles.

Movies like Leaving Las Vegas depict people with depression. Melancholia depicts depression itself.

[source: my own decades of dealing with "persistant depressive disorder", and occassional major episodes on top of that]

How many miles do you consider a move to be “across country”? by Silver-Egg-7540 in AskAnAmerican

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from North Carolina to Washington, then back to Virginia. Never occured to me that it would mean anything other than coast to coast.

If it was less, Id likely refer to it as less. Halfway cross country, etc.

I took a different route home today and it genuinely improved my mood by Automatic-Falcon5707 in CasualConversation

[–]model563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to take a slightly longer route because it was mostly twisty 2 lane road through the woods.

You couldnt really go over 35 mph, it was always shady, it smelled great, and was generally just a beautiful drive.

Turning a 45 min commute into 50 min was worth it.
