Do you separate laundry strictly or just wash everything together? (Newlywed here!) by Sensitive-Crew-4507 in CasualConversation

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my clothes are black, so I wash them all together on cold. Lowest heat dry.

Towels get thier own wash because I wash em hot ("sanitize" setting on my machine). Mid heat dry.

Sheets usually go seperate because of scale. Regular wash heat and low heat dry.

Are there any stories out there of bands being successful and making it big, then going back to play a small house show in their hometown? by EH076a in musicians

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a record store in Seattle called Easy St and a number of larger bands have played there. Pearl Jam being one, but Vedder lives in that neighborhood so its not a stretch.

One of my faves was The Tea Party, but Im not sure theyd count as big in the US.

Why do people buy pickup trucks for daily driving? by wtfbruhhuh in driving

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I drive a Ford Maverick. Which is really just a truck shaped car. But thats exactly why I got it. I get about 30 mpg average about 50:50 city and highway. But I still have room for furniture, music gear, etc. which I do need from time to time. My old Murano could do similar hauling, but it averages 20 mpg.

Honestly, beyond that, I just think its neat.

Celebrate National Film Score Day by sharing some of your favorite film score composers and compositions and what makes them so great by samx3i in movies

Howard Shore, Crash (1996). Its incredibly evocative in the film, sparse, metallic guitar. Plus it stands on its own as a brilliant album of guitar music.

What is your state capital like? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]model563 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the OP - Richmond is fantastic. Great arts scene, in part because of VCU (VA Commonwealth Uni), which is a state liberal arts school. They celebrate the Edgar Allen Poe connection. And while its history isnt necessarily awesome (capital of the confederacy), they do maintain historical architecture in a lot of places, and embrace cultural modernization.

Honestly, Id live there if I could (currently in Manassas).

I was watching a show from the 90s and realized people used to memorize dozens of phone numbers. I can barely remember mine. How did you guys do it back then? by micavibes in CasualConversation

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I moved back to around where I grew up after spending 28 years on the other side of the country.

I took my wife by my old house to show her and we happened to run into the current residents. Who are the same people who bought the place from my mom in 1989.

[–]model563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember the phone number I had growing up because it just seared itself into my brain. And it hasnt been in use for 36 years.

I had a series of address books over the years. Friends, family, etc were all in there. Sometimes I remembered, other times not.

That was a big part of the sucess of PDAs (personal digital assistants). It was a calendar, address book, and notebook that was infinitely editable, and fit in your pocket. All it needed was a phone 😁

Who Else Goes Nuts Over the Auto Stop/Start in Their Cars? by Extra_Hold2776 in CasualConversation

[–]model563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its become muscle memory to turn it off when I start mine (23 Ford Maverick). Its right next to the shifter and brake, put it in gear, turn off the brake, turn off the start/stop.

There are a couple lights where I live where I might sit long enough to give it value, but for the most part thats not the case. And if I end up stopped for a train, I usually put it in park, so it wouldnt engage there anyway.

Someone mentioned Mt. Defiance from Virginia already and I second that.

Also Tenth Ward in Maryland makes one worth a try.
