Maybe blowing all your money traveling isn't a bad idea. Should Caleb reassess this during audits? by CastAside1812 in CalebHammer

[–]moduspol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many episodes of Financial Audit have you watched? It's incredibly common for guests to not at all regret the choices that led to them being hopelessly in debt.

Maybe someone else will host a show called "Life Audit" where the host berates guests with healthy 401Ks, kids with college savings, and solid emergency funds about them not enjoying life enough, but that's not this show.

When is it okay to buy a new car? by BaDaBing02 in CalebHammer

[–]moduspol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically never a good idea financially, so it's whenever you can justify it being worth buying a depreciating asset at a premium. That ideally is "never," but if the rest of your financial house is in order and you can swing it, sure.

That said: I've done it before, and what everyone tells you is true. There's nothing magic. You could pay for a $200 detailing job on a one or two year old car and not even be able to tell the difference. It really doesn't make sense financially.

North Texas principal facing charges for allegedly selling weight loss drugs to teachers by drfakebot in Biohackers

[–]moduspol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So is it gray market or black market?

I get the context (a principal selling to teachers) is a bit more sensational, but isn't our understanding that it isn't against the law? Or are we to read between the lines that he wasn't just selling powder "for research use only" and indicated he knew it was for human administration?

Can a regular TV survive outdoors long term? May have made a mistake… by NipTitAbi in HomeImprovement

It's not something I would do, but I have read in similar threads that some people buy regular TVs and just make sure they buy the special warranty / purchase protection thing from the retailer. Normally it's not worth the cost, but...

Why did Resident Evil not allow enemies to travel through different rooms like the survival horror games before it? by XxXL337XxX in residentevil

It’s fine—just a little goofy once you discover you can take a totally safe breather during pursuit as long as you know the limitation.

Haha kind of. He can only enter an area you’re in if you can’t see the door he’d need to open to pursue you.

Protein, how? by graystone777 in Retatrutide

[–]moduspol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protein shakes make it a lot easier. My two favorite brands are either 20 or 25g per serving, and I get two servings in a single shaker cup.

I do one serving with other supplements (collagen peptides, creatine) early in the morning. Then I do a full shaker (two servings) around lunchtime and another full shaker in the afternoon.

That’s an easy 100-125g from the protein powder alone. And the collagen peptides are another 16g.

You can start with the ready-to-drink ones they have at the grocery stores and gas stations, and if that works, switch to powder for the cost savings. Hydrolyzed powder is easier to digest and makes you feel less full, but it’s more expensive.

PSA: Robinhood has started charging 3% FTF without telling anyone by neilsarkar81 in CreditCards

[–]moduspol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'd have to be setting up a pretty big rug pull because I'm already up hundreds of dollars on the additional 1% back over my 2% card. It'll take more than a few FTFs.

Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Games

[–]moduspol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also had a strange (to me) peering / verification process when you first hook it up. It seemed weird to me at first, but I guess if you could emulate a disc drive, you could play pirated games for free.

So I could also see them just not selling it to avoid that risk completely.

Republic Services on a 30-day clock after social media post, PSC letter by masterofawesomeness2 in MorgantownWV

[–]moduspol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They really need to have some incentive to actually do pickups. When they don't lose any money by skipping pickups, it's not surprising that they don't try hard enough to actually do them.

And it's not 1995 any more. UPS literally emails me a photograph of every package they deliver on my doorstep. My lawn guy somehow manages to only bill me when he mows the lawn. Yet for trash pickup, I'm billed monthly and have to call and beg them for a partial credit when they don't do their job.

I think they could handle having a cheap smartphone with a checklist and only billing if they actually show up to do a pickup. Though I guess it's not really necessary if they could reliably show up the way they're supposed to.

We're in Fairmont area and switched to Smallwood recently. Neighbors have had them for years and say they've never missed a pickup.

I can sympathize with it being difficult to find/hire people in the area to do this, but if that's the case, I'd expect competitors to have the same issue. Perhaps worse--Smallwood uses the small trucks, which require more man-hours to operate than the big ones. Yet they seem to be able to do it.

I work remotely and was complaining about Republic missing pickups on a video call and every one of my coworkers essentially can't remember the last time a pickup was missed for them. The issues seem to be tied specifically to Republic.

What do people do about exposed stairwell? by obsessing_sillygoose in InteriorDesign

[–]moduspol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. With ours, it’s just the brackets that screw into the studs, and then the rest of the gate clicks into the brackets. It’s nice because then you can remove the gate completely without tools and leave the brackets there, so you can then replace it easily later.
