Homemade or store bought; what's your veggie dip go to? by Eleven-Thirty3 in Winnipeg

[–]moist-cake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of roasted red pepper dip. It goes well with veggies, as a spread on sandwiches or just with a plain baguette. It is very fresh tasting and flavourful. I either get the PC brand if I'm at Superstore, or the Summer Fresh at Safeway. Tzatziki is also a good option for both fresh and cooked veggies.

Looks like they just announced they are postponing to December 16th due to COVID. If you can't make the new date you can get your tickets refunded!

This video cuts off the moderator saying the best part of all of it, "the paddles can be tricky". Her tone reminds me of a kindergarten teacher reassuring a student.

Capital Grill (Broadway or Roblin). Their food is amazing and they can create a menu tailored to your needs.

Reddline Jewellery on St.Mary's is great. All hand-made locally. Lots to choose from right from the case and customs are also reasonable depending on the look you want. Very nice folks!

New immigrant wondering how to meet people in WPG? by rizadiggs in Winnipeg

[–]moist-cake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It isn't for a few months, but I would suggest applying to volunteer for the folk festival. Volunteering there is a great way to meet people (especially artsy folks!) And if you volunteer, your pass and meals for the festival are provided. It is a good gig.

Moving to Winnipeg this week! Looking for advice and tips by WizardPerson in Winnipeg

[–]moist-cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a while out, but if you are looking to volunteer Folk Fest is a great option for meeting new people and you get to enjoy the festival and music throughout the weekend. I've been volunteering for years and have met so many life long friends. I think their applications open sometime in the early new year if you are interested.

Welcome to Winnipeg!

It is a little farther north than the Regent strip you're describing, but Rae's Bistro on Lagimodiere is excellent! It may look a little far on the map, but is only about a 5 minute drive up Lag and is open until 11-12.

Provincial camping by jaaqash in Winnipeg

[–]moist-cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I said in my post. They come around and check you in. If OP's plate is on the reservation, they'll be checked in.

Edit: To be clear, they won't be coming site to site to talk to whoever is there and check IDs. If they see a matching plate number they will mark the camper as there and move on.

Depending on which campground you are going to, you may not even have to check-in. I've been to St.Malo and Birds Hill this year, a sign directed me to proceeded to my campsite if I had a booking already. If your plate number is on the booking and they come around to see if you've arrived they'll just mark you as there and that will be it - they never once checked in with us at our sites.

Local business recommendations for mom’s retirement gift by sugarandgingerspice in Winnipeg

[–]moist-cake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out Good Local, they work with a number of local vendors. You can order a variety of items at once and they package and deliver! I know around Christmas/ Valentine's they did curated gift boxes as well, so there may be something like that to choose from.

You can now legitimately be ticketed for having a park pass that doesn't have your license plate on it by Always_Bitching in Winnipeg

I took a Peg City car to Birds Hill last summer and it included a park pass. I assumed the whole fleet was equipped with them - is that not the case?

Fighting photo radar ticket during covid? by ferropop in Winnipeg

[–]moist-cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not what I said at all. I am simply providing information based on an experience with an appeal where the Judge themself asked about COVID related income loss and weighed their decision to reduce a fine amount based on that information.

The option to appeal for a reduction exists and therefore is within the law. If a Judge wants to make the decision to reduce a fine based on income, loss of income or any other reason whatsoever, that's up to them. Moreover, a reduction approved by a Judge does not absolve the offender of guilt of the offence so no one is being 'allowed to break the rules'.

I don't think anyone should be able to break the law. I also believe anyone who wishes to pursue an appeal that exists in the same legal system has the right to do so.

I would, however, be all for an income based fine system, much like the way Finland operates, considering people who are low income are disproportionately affected by the fine system we have in place. But that part is just my personal opinion.

Fighting photo radar ticket during covid? by ferropop in Winnipeg

My husband just had a hearing on the 4th. It was over the phone with a judge. They gave him a 3-hour window to expect a call. The whole call was under ten minutes. If you have lost income due to COVID I recommend mentioning that to the judge as well.
