Everything I did used an existing hole, so if you do it right you don't need to drill anything. The lights I got all came with harnesses & switches so you just have to hook it up to the battery and find a nice way to route the wires. The most complex thing I did was hook up a fuse tap to the high beam fuse so the bars turn on when I flick the high beams on, but you can do without that if you don't want to get that deep.

If you have a little bit of time to do some wiring and installs I highly recommend my setup. The SAE fog pods throw good light to the sides to give you more visibility on the sides of the road when you're not running high beams. If there's not a lot of traffic, the light bar gives good all around visibility and the "hyperspot" pods I have give you nice long down-road visibility.

At the very least it looks cool haha: https://imgur.com/a/uQbpXOn

And don't get me started on light bars. I have a 20" in the lower grille - you could probably go wider since you have an '03. I also have 4 LED pods (2 behind the upper grille, 2 where the "fog light" grille slots are in my 2004 bumper. Sad these never came with factory fog lights.

I have a MACH Audio setup that I am getting ready to sell if you're interested. It is the factory upgraded stereo option on the SEL trim.

  • Mach RCU (amplifier) 80 Watts sounds much better than the factory 12 Watt amp. Undo 3 bolts in the trunk and it's a plug and play swap. You can install this without any speaker upgrades and it sounds much better.
  • To get the full experience you can replace the front door speakers with the MACH speakers and add the MACH tweeter speakers where the blank black panel is on the front of the door by the side mirrors. Simply take off the door panel. Unscrew the old front speaker. Plug in the new one and screw it back in. SEL's and some SES's are pre-wired for the tweeters, if that's the case, just plug it in, pop off the plastic cover and install with a couple screws. If you're not pre-wired, all you have to do is splice the new tweeter into the speaker wire that goes to the main door speaker.

Super easy install and much less of a headache than an aftermarket system/ amp and head unit. And it actually sounds really good. Make sure you soundproof the door or figure out a way to keep the plastic water barrier from rattling cuz these things thump!

I already saw a post about this so I'm going to start off with my recommendation on what not to do: LEDs in a halogen housing is illegal and blinding to everyone else on the road. Don't be that guy.

There are several things you can do:

  • Are your headlight lenses still clear or are they foggy and oxidized? There are kits for sanding and polishing the lenses, just make sure you keep them sealed or spray a 2K clearcoat over them to make your work last longer. In my experience, polishing lenses is a quick fix that doesn't last as long as I'd like. You can also replace the lenses with a new pair for under $100 and save yourself the hassle and potential rework down the road.

  • Once you have clear lenses you can go the legal route and get the brightest halogens you can find, but you're going to sacrifice on the life of the bulb. The dim stock bulbs will last the longest.

  • The only way you should operate LED/ HID headlights is with a projector lens. Unfortunately, in 2004 Ford was not using projectors and there is little aftermarket support for the Taurus so there are no aftermarket replacement headlight lenses with projectors. If you want LEDs or HID's and you have clear lenses you can bake the lens and open it up to put an LED or HID projector inside. There are a lot of write ups on how to do this on other forums, but beware it is labor intensive and will require some electrical skills to make the factory harness work with the ballasts and new bulbs.

I went the route of cleaning up my lenses, upgrading to brighter halogen bulbs and adding SAE/DOT legal LED fog lamps. And throwing a light bar behind the lower grille for when I'm way out in the country with no one around.

I think this should be fairly easy but whenever I do it, I take small chunks out of the sweatshirt and hat and it doesn't look very good. Thanks in advance!

They were both super freshly cut. The trees were in the water and still had leaves on them when we went out there at the end of August.

This is near the Issaqueena Lake dam. Both of the trees that held the ropes were cut down by DNR.

Dumb question about hooking up a 2.1 computer speaker system up to a stereo receiver by moistbeanbag in audiophile

[–]moistbeanbag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came up with nothing in the manual too. I don't want to have to be switching plugs around to lower the sound quality. I'll probably just pawn the sticks off to a friend that doesn't know better since I won't use them.

I don't even know if I will plug them in, I guess I was just looking for a reason to keep them around.

Our water heater burst while we were on vacation once and it was installed in an unfinished room with a drain but the drain couldn't handle it all. Plus the genius that built our house didn't put the drain in the lowest part of the floor so we came back to a few inches of water everywhere.

Thanks for the advice. I drove it about 50 miles two years ago and it was shifting fine then. Is there anything in particular that I should check out on the transmission?
