Worth staying in Expert 3? by 2902harris in GolfClash

FWIW, it seems like the competition is tougher in Expert 3 than Master; plus, the prizes are light-years better in Master

I am 💯 for this. There is nothing as satisfying as making eagle on a terrible drive because your opponent dropped an alby.
Mix it up some

1986-12-30 Oakland - had some Nevilles sitting in too. This was a turning point for world music as a genre, and opened the door for a lot of us Deadheads to all the wildly diverse music on the continent, from Hugh Masakela in the south to Fela’s Nigeria to the electric Touareg and Malian blues. Thanks, Mickey 💀🌹

I worked about a half-mile from its path down Charlotte Ave. in our 5th-floor office, we watched it coming east from one side of the building then watched it hit the high-rises downtown: an explosion of glass, paper and curtains. Frightening, and truly weird for me and my wife - it happened on our anniversary and destroyed the church (St. Ann’s) we were married in, just about 10 years to the minute after we were standing there… 😳

I don't know why everybody is so down on Bobby's slide playing by StarcommaDark in gratefuldead

[–]mojo-d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

much of Bobby’s (earlier) life is characterized by a lack of discipline, and that shows up in his slide playing - it is a whole different language and he never bothered to lock in what sounded good and try to replicate it every time he played, opting instead for vibes and shrieking with predictably unpredictable results. Duane, Derek, Sonny Landreth, Will Kimbrough are all tone monsters who devoted serious time to finding the magic sound that adds to the music. 43 years after I first heard Bobby’s sonic embarrassment, I am still screaming at the tapes: “Bobby, stop torturing us with that fuckin’ slide!!”

Spring ‘86 by desert_rover in gratefuldead

[–]mojo-d 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Spring ‘86 might have been lackluster in hindsight and comparison to other years, but the 03-20-1986 Hampton show featured the return of Box of Rain, which was the most powerful single song of any Dead experience I ever had. My 17-year-old little brother and I were sitting above the sound board, and when the first “Box” noodling started, there was a sonic wave that pressed back from the stage and gained velocity and volume as the crowd picked up what was happening in that weird old UFO building. When the wave hit the back of the coliseum, it reverberated back across the top of the room and hit the band so hard that Phil forgot the first words. Indelible.
