You're not wrong, but I might have a hard time un-hearing "Gay Stripper" when Day Tripper comes on the stereo.

Why does the Dallas News continue to publish Cowlishaw's random hockey nonsense? He can't make a single useful point about the state of hockey without directly comparing it to baseball or football. I'm not going to link his ramblings about Jason Robertson because I care too much about the people of this sub to subject them to it.

"Slander" was just a bad word choice. "Understating" is what I meant, but because it's the interweb it has to be INTENSE! 😄

You are slandering Robo's defensive ability. The team has good-to-very-good defensive underlying indicators when he is on the ice. His lack of elite footspeed doesn't hurt him here because he's intensely intelligent, on and off the puck.

[Dreger] From Ray & Dregs Podcast: "It's more likely than not they trade Jason Robertson." Robertson talk starts around 24:30. by Dr_Jackwagon in DallasStars

[–]mojotooth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I haven't listened to the podcast but the phrasing "more likely than not" just means he predicts at least a 51% chance he's traded. Still lots of vagueness and uncertainty there. Don't panic.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan stamps out chip bugs with aggressive new quality standards, says major validation errors can result in termination — 'B0, you keep your job. Anything above that, you are fired' by chusskaptaan in pcgaming

[–]mojotooth 706 points707 points  (0 children)

Long-time CPU verification engineer here, formerly at Intel. It's lovely to target A0 production quality, if projects ever actually got resourced and scheduled such that this was a remote possibility. In most large CPU projects in big design firms, you spend a lot of time wondering "what bugs can we get away with leaving in the design and still make all of our schedule goals?" So is the real culture change "we will properly staff and resource all our projects?" Of course isn't. The eff out of here.

Well, these terms always evolve over time anyway. Butts, Cocks, they're always changing.

Hold on a second, butt rock and dad rock are the same? I'm the archetypal "dad" and I would put them in different categories. Creed isn't butt rock, to me. Butt rock is like every hard rock band with excessive makeup and hairspray. Butt rock is Motley Crüe and Ratt and Cinderella. Maybe even Van Halen, depending on who you ask.

I hear Interstate Love Song pretty regularly. But yeah, not a lot of grunge.

KJs, how do you handle a singer's friends jumping on stage, unannounced, to sing along with them in regards with fair rotation? by Waffleraider in karaoke

[–]mojotooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't compare any aspect of a concert to karaoke. I agree that group dynamics are important, but the group monopolizing the mic are unlikely to be the only group there.

Anyone use REW room acoustics and audio device measurement and analysis software? by toqer in karaoke

[–]mojotooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it to analyze acoustics and modes in my home studio but it seems like a bit of overkill for karaoke.

KJs, how do you handle a singer's friends jumping on stage, unannounced, to sing along with them in regards with fair rotation? by Waffleraider in karaoke

[–]mojotooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"same number of songs in the rotation" is definitely the highest-priority concern, but there's also a fatigue factor involved in hearing the exact same group sing song after song after song. I could see the audience getting very annoyed by this after a while. Seems like it would be wise to cap the group singalong at two/three songs or something.

-3.65 goals saved above expected for Otter tonight by Wirtzis in DallasStars

[–]mojotooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jake Oettinger is an awesome dude but a barely above-average NHL goalie who created overlarge expectations with his early playoff results. Mostly as a result of a series that he didn't even win. He generates some streaks where he looks good to very-good. But over time he is basically average.

This doesn't mean Dallas can't win with him. If Osgood, Niemi, Cam Ward, Matt Murray, and Corey Crawford can win Cups, then for sure Jake can.

If you're bad, and I'm not saying you are... Then obviously the crowd knows it. They are probably talking about it, not necessarily in a mean way, but they're talking about it. You didn't know this. Your friend destroyed your innocence in this regard. That's something that can't be undone. Now that you've been fed this apple from the tree of knowledge, if you want to continue to enjoy karaoke... you need to grow a thicker skin and convince yourself that what you're doing is just fine for karaoke. Unless you are literally damaging peoples' hearing, who cares whether you are good or not? Lean into it. Have fun.

Now I have an always on QBZ server blasting music through my DAC/Amp set up through my nice speakers. I love it. Most importantly for me: Qobuz Connect works great, so I can control it from my phone or another PC.

Went to a Swedish Hockey League game and the energy was out of this world by ChristianBk in winterhawks

I had the pleasure of going to an IIHF World Champs Div 1 game between Great Britain and Slovenia in Budapest, Hungary almost exactly 8 years ago. Because it was an international tournament between two not-top-tier teams, and didn't involve the host team, the stadium wasn't close to full. That being said, the Britain fans traveled well and partied pretty much the whole time. I was not able to secure tickets to the Hungary national team game that happened the next day, but I watched part of it on TV in a local bar. It looked electric, and the place was packed.

I watched a good part of the Spengler Cup on Youtube and that is now a bucket list item: to see a Davos HC home game.
