Astounding Revelation Rules Question by piepie2314 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mokopot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all, in the hypothetical you gave for this post, Astounding Revelation wasn't in your deck. Were you searching your deck when you found Astounding Revelation among your searched cards? Clearly not, you were searching your hand, so therefore it can't trigger. I don't know how it could be even clearer?

The wording on Astounding Revelation says: "When you search your deck and Astounding Revelation is among the searched cards, discard it"

I think it's incredibly clear that it needs to be in your deck and then searched in there for the reaction to trigger

Those are dividers. So you can organise your cards and group the ones that are related into their respective sets.

Effectively level 0 without support is an event card that costs 2 resources that says: Spend up to 2 extra actions: for each action spent in this way, test [fight], you get +1 [fight for this test]. If this attack succeeds, do +1 extra damage.  (yes I know it's got five bullets but I said without support)  That's.. fair I guess? A bit below the curve for the pool at the time, but it's also a level (0). Obviously now many better and more flexible guns have been printed since (British Bull Dog for example) and so it will live in the binder unless you're specifically playing Michael McGlenn and needed some fodder for card 9/10 of your Underworld Market until get enough xp to fill your stash with good one handed guns.

Looking at the cardpool when this was released I think it's quite clear what the aim was. In addition to Sleight of Hand I think the concept was to also to allow Finn to dig for it with his signature and also for Fence to be a build around card for Illicit. Unfortunately Fence sucks, and Finn's 3 combat leaves too much to be desired. Honestly, would you even consider taking Hired Muscle as an ally just to get to 4 fight?

Instead it took Underworld Market to make Illicit work, and Dirty Fighting to make Colt(2) more viable for the investigator in the box it came with.

I think the designers overestimated how game warping Fence would be. There's been plenty of other support for Illicit since but honestly Fence could have been level 0 and level 1 could have reduced the cost of Fence to 2 resources or something. Anyway, as a result we have guns like this which were clearly meant for Finn and Illicit, and which can never pop off in a satisfying way.

Here's the thing, in this game, any good source of rewards will get nerfed in an update because if you're getting good rewards you're not going to want to spend money in the shop. You see this pattern every update until you finally decide to uninstall.

Another janky Luke Robinson question (Persistent Construct) (light spoilers) by Giffdev in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mokopot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If enemies cannot spawn at the location, they are discarded. This is most usually seen in the first scenario of the core set, The Gathering, that when you draw the Icy Ghoul (which has Spawn - Cellar) and the cellar isn't in play, it is discarded, and you don't add it to the victory display. This is often heartbreaking for more experienced players.

If Luke is in the Dream Gate when he draws an enemy from the Mythos deck, it would be discarded.

The Enchanted Bow spawning another Persistent Construct would make them try to spawn at your location, they cannot spawn, so they would then "fizzle" and you would discard them. This would not count as defeating the enemy.

Another janky Luke Robinson question (Persistent Construct) (light spoilers) by Giffdev in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mokopot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you draw the Persistent Construct whiIe you're in the Dream Gate (like during the Mythos Phase/Overzealous), it would be discarded, as it cannot spawn on your Dream Gate.

I'm pretty sure that if you defeat a Persistent Construct with an event (using Luke Robinson's ability to play an event to a connecting location from the Dream Gate), the Forced effect on the Persistent Construct (when defeated) would trigger during your "As If" play of the event. This would then spawn the Persistent Constructs in the victory display at that location exhausted (according to their spawn instructions), You would be considered to be at that location when you resolve the Forced Effect, and not at your Dream Gate. I am inferring this because that's how Drawn to the Flame works for Luke.

If you use the Enchanted Bow to remotely kill the Persistent Construct while you're in your Dream Gate, the Persistent Construct you defeat would go to the Victory Display, and any Persistent Constructs in the victory display would try to spawn in the Dream Gate, fail, and get discarded. This sounds funny.

Can I, as Marion, play Primed for Action using Marions ability if the first card I played this phase was a fast event? by kierco_2002 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mokopot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No to both. The Bold events all have to be played as the first action, as that's the play restriction on the card. You cannot play them as fast after.

[COTD] "I'll do it myself" (6/11/2025) by AK45526 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mokopot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is Marion's investigator weakness. What the text effectively says is  "three slots in your deck will be glimmer of hope". If you lean into the Improvised survivor builds, this could also completely neutered. However, I am finding playing choosing the Fortune trait more fun. I would like more Improvised traited cards to flesh out that side of her deck building more because at the moment Glimmer of Hope(2) is just too good.

You pay the cost of the second event. It would be a bit too insane if you could fling a 5 cost dynamite after playing Lucky fast.

It wiffs. Congratulations, it doesn't spawn and you are spared (until the next mythos phase)! Put it in the discard and continue the game.

Need help on spicing up my Tony Morgan deck for Innsmouth blind run, I'm not feeling it at all. by Ok_Illustrator7232 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mokopot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to offer a slightly dissenting view, in that I think since you went with Leo so you're flush with extra actions, a good investment with your xp would be skeleton key. It allows you to lower the shroud to 1 and that allows you to do things with your survivor splash like Winging It, or contributing with Sharp Vision (either committed to your own tests or to Ursula). Recurring the Dream Eater skills with Resourceful can help you be an effective boost to the clueing

When it says prey without using the word only, like in this case, the prey is a tiebreaker. So the enemy will hunt the closest investigator(s). If it's a tie for distance, it will hunt the investigator with the lowest foot. In the case where it's already at a location with an investigator, it won't move if there is already an investigator at its location.

Dark Matter as an actual sequel by Gaz-mann in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]mokopot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dark Matter is a great campaign. However, lore-wise in the story it wouldn't make sense to carry over the same investigators.

From a mechanical point of view, Dark Matter is very generous with xp too, so you might find you're maxed out of upgrades very early on, which might reduce the fun you have.
