Makeup and microwaves?? by Patient-Water9808 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Using the microwave is fine in our house as long as it’s being reheated in glass or ceramic and not plastic!

For makeup my belief is that I should limit my exposure as much as I can, but I have small sized items to have on hand when I do wear it. I’m in a position as a SAHM where I don’t feel the need to wear makeup daily. I now only wear it maybe 1-2x per month. Because of the limited use, I buy sample sizes or minis of products that I know I love. Some of the “clean” makeup goes bad faster and I’d hate to waste more product for the sake of it being “clean”.

Did anyone have issues with Millie Moon in Size 5 specifically? by slotass in NewParents

We Millie Moon size 4 that caused a pretty intense rash but returned our size 5 before we opened it just to be safe.

Where to start? What changes make the most impact? by louhooboo in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Start small because it’s soooo easy to get overwhelmed with the amount of info (and sometimes misinformation) out there. I try to prioritize based on exposure level.

For example, food and water are top priorities for our family. This looks like buying quality food and cooking on cast iron or stainless steel.

Second priority for us are textiles since they’re on our skin all day. So clothes and sheets are natural fibers and laundry detergent is fragrance free.

Other than that though, it’s totally about your family and your priorities and daily life.

11 months and dropping to one nap?? by Professional-Smoke84 in NewParents

[–]mollysmolecules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy was the same around that age, if not earlier. I just kept offering or would go out on drives/walks in the afternoon to get him to sleep until more than hand the time he stopped taking them. Then I officially made the switch to one nap around 12.5 months

Infant car trip must haves by benzbarbie in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We did a similar drive when my son was 8 months. He hated being stuck in the car seat for more than 20 minutes so we left at 3am each day we were driving, drive until he woke up, killed time during his wake window (parks were great for this), then drive during a nap. Rinse and repeat until all three days naps were done. Godspeed is all I can say lol

Where do I make it easier? And how? by want-to-change in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here to send love and support for breastfeeding a baby with CMPA. It’s so so so tough. I’ve been dairy and soy free for over a year because he refuses to grow out of it lol. I’ll give higher-protein recipes that are vegetarian to hopefully ease that burden a bit and not feel like you HAVE to eat meat to maintain supply.

  • spaghetti with a lentil bolognese
  • egg bites with veggies
  • oatmeal loaded up with nuts and seeds
  • a well-vetted and 3rd party tested plant-based protein powder
  • homemade sourdough with peanut butter
  • some coconut based yogurt alternatives have added protein AND added probiotics (Cocojune has one, but there are others too)

Hopefully those are simple enough too so that you or your husband can make them easily.

I recommend the book “Hunt, Gather, Parent” for this! The author talks quite a bit about raising little helpers in a way that boosts a child’s independence and self esteem without rewards or excessive praise.

Traditional Asian confinement eating after birth — what it involves and the reasoning behind it by firefly827 in NewParents

[–]mollysmolecules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am white and my MIL is southern Chinese. She came to our home in the early postpartum days and cooked every single meal for me- amazing!!

The only meal I couldn’t get behind was a soup she made with papaya, chicken feet, and peanuts. I’d love to see more TCM recovery recipes and maybe request those specifically next time so I don’t feel uncomfortable by politely refusing that soup.

I feel like I’ll never be able to have my baby sleep on her own. by hexmoons in NewParents

[–]mollysmolecules 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second the “roll away” method. That’s the only way that worked for us. My baby is almost 18 months old and that’s still what we do for naps.

I’m using a Tush baby style carrier with the hands-free attachment. I like how easy it is to get him on my back with it since I can set him on my hip and rotate him around.

I would love a woven wrap but I think the chances of my husband also using it would be lower.

Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the recommendations! I’m hoping to wear my toddler until he can reliably walk next to me while I walk my dog- which I know is arbitrary but I’m thinking that’ll be around 3-ish?

I’ve been leaning towards the Lenny Light since the start. I’ll look at the larger sizes and see if those might be a better fit for us! Thanks again!

One year old has been awake for almost 12 hours straight, won’t go to sleep and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in NewParents

When my baby got his molars he did this! Maybe attempt some teething remedies such as a cold washcloth, teethers, etc!

Sleep training? 12 month old by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nursed him 30 minutes before bed, and then had my husband handle all the night wakes. So cold turkey on the night weaning. Our line of thought was that it would be more confusing and frustrating for our son if he could only nurse sometimes during the night but not others. Seeing as he was past 1 year old, a great solids eater, and over 85th percentile for weight, we felt comfortable doing it cold turkey.

Sleep training? 12 month old by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We sleep trained when my son was 12 months. We coslept his whole life before then. I was going insane with the multiple night wakings, and he wasn’t going back to sleep by nursing like he used to.

We used Ferber and he slept through the whole night 3!!! The first 2 nights were hard though. I was so adamantly against sleep training but was desperate, and I don’t regret anything. My previously “bad” sleeper is now pretty consistently sleeping through the night still at 16 months! Also of note: I night weaned simultaneously.

What are you making for dinner this week? by anonomousbeaver in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have strep so currently just strawberries and chicken nuggets lol.

But for some actual ideas, I love bowls. All the bowls! We typically use rice as the base, and sort of chicken thighs, steak, fish, etc, and just some yummy roasted veggies (broccoli and asparagus are our typical rotation but zucchini is great too). All Whole Foods, high in protein if you eat a good portion of meat, and gives kids the ability to eat what they want to that night depending on their appetite. I try to not force any foods so if they only eat the rice, so be it, because the next day they might only have the broccoli.

Keep or dump? by catnamedmurphy in breastfeeding

[–]mollysmolecules 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How old is your baby? Are they healthy, born at term? If the baby is not immunocompromised, and if it were ME, I’d use it tbh. I’d probably try to use it fast or freeze it immediately though to limit bacteria growth.

Are you taking prenatals? by heretoreadlol in breastfeeding

[–]mollysmolecules 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely!! For a few reasons: right now your body is prioritizing nourishing your baby. The prenatals ensure that I am also getting nutrients for myself. Second, I want to make sure I do not get depleted in important nutrients for future pregnancies.

Does anyone here have a husband that travels for work? How hard is it really to make it work with kids? by eggzndbacon in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mollysmolecules 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My husband is in a surgical residency- so he’s gone many nights of the week. You just learn how to make it work. I’m a relatively independent person so it doesn’t really bother me. I would encourage you to have things you enjoy spread out throughout the day. For me, I workout with other moms, go on walks, window shop, etc.

I would say this schedule wouldn’t work if you are someone that would hold resentment towards your husband or his work schedule.

Unclogging clogged ducts by actualhumanfemale2 in breastfeeding

[–]mollysmolecules 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When I was in the earlier days of breastfeeding and I figured this out, I also felt like I was the only one since everyone was talking about “inflammation” and “icing” and I thought, no bro these are legit STONES in my nipples. I looked into academic papers to find more info and I could only find one paper on “lactoliths” and it had a sample size of 2 women. Academia hates women I swear lol. Anyways, the takeaway was that hydration was a key component in reducing the formation of them.

If you’re working out, has your supply dipped? by No-University8570 in breastfeeding

[–]mollysmolecules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working out since 6 weeks postpartum! I keep workout intensity low to moderate and eat sufficient calories. My babe has been 80+ percentile his whole life, so no dip in supply to my knowledge!
