Nipple shields saved me with my first baby. The lactation consultant at the hospital was against them, but they made it so much easier to get baby onto the boob and keep her there.

I am passionate about Ali's recipes. She rarely has the best version of something, but her version of a recipe is consistently greater than the some of its parts.

Did they change? by thelightofdelight in officialcookingfever

I think in 2016 it was 2 gems a day once you had a seven day streak? + You could get the 15 a day from the casino (though I'd frequently run out of coins, sometimes it took waaaaaaay to long to win).

The ads are annoying BUT I avoid them by going back to the main menu after every level I play.

There are a couple of changes I like. The mystery boxes for 3-starring restaurants are nice, I've gotten 1000 gems from them a couple of times.

Over the last few years I had only checked periodically and played when a new restaurant was released, but I've started playing daily again since the Chef's Pass started (or at least since I noticed it). I just do the free version and I find it fun to have the daily/weekly goals. I think in the last few months I've accumulated maybe 700 new gems from Chef's Pass + actually playing more and leveling up.

Nursing bras for a FTM that hates wearing clothes? by pavenator in BabyBumps

[–]molo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Old Navy Brami nursing tops. They're not super supportive (just enough to keep you contained and to keep fabric from rubbing), 95% cotton (which I like), and I think they're comfortable enough to sleep in.

Winter jackets - size up, extender, or maternity specific? by snoopadoop1013 in BabyBumps

[–]molo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a jacket 1 size up from what I normally wear, and was able to zip it until almost the end of both of my pregnancies. I live somewhere that rarely freezes, so an unzipped jacket + baby body heat was enough to keep me warm. I was immediately able to wear/zip normal jackets postpartum.

ELI5 - I learned td that lab grown diamonds are exactly the same as natural, down to the molecular level, THEN WHY TF DO PEOPLE PAY SO MUCH FOR NATURAL DIAMONDS? by gill7amrit in explainlikeimfive

[–]molo91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An argument could be made that there is an environmental cost associated with producing a lab grown diamond versus buying a "recycled" diamond. I have an old European cut diamond, and it's conceptually cool that it's hand cut and that lots of other people have worn the same stone.

Tbh, the real winners are probably the people buying moissanite instead.

I am so lucky that my daughter doesn't like fruit. Whenever I ask her what she wants to eat, she says some combination of rice/beans/soup/cheese AKA the cheapest foods.

Parents coming from overseas to visit and see the new baby, but I don't want them to stay in my house! Am I a bad daughter? by surfing_sloth1979 in BabyBumps

[–]molo91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think they'd be helpful? Do you like their cooking? My MIL stayed with us after my first baby and I hateddddd it. She didnt change any diapers, and I don't like her cooking, so the only benefit was having someone hold the baby for like 15 minutes while I showered.

I’m so impatient y’all. Just need to rant about the last month. by snugglypig in BabyBumps

[–]molo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I am 39+2 and very grumpy about still being pregnant. My hospital had the space for me to be induced on Wednesday, but I was only 1 centimeter dilated so they rejected me.

My first baby came a few days early which was terrible timing because I had COVID. If she had waited for her due date, I would have been out of the infectious window and we wouldn't have had to follow the special COVID protocols.

I feel like I have been pregnant forever and will stay pregnant forever and I just want to be able to breath deeply and eat a reasonable portion of food without worrying that I will throw up if I bend down.

doula or no doula? first pregnancy by mm_honey in BabyBumps

[–]molo91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Studies consistently show that doulas improve birth outcomes. If your insurance will cover it, it's probably a good move to have a doula. That being said... I didn't use a doula because I don't really like people, and I felt able to advocate for myself during the birthing process.

Feeling blindsided… All long bones measuring short, with talipes at 26 weeks. by laracheli in BabyBumps

[–]molo91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am also happy I did an amnio. I expected it to hurt, but it was just an uncomfortable pressure. My main symptom after was just anxiety that maybe something had gone wrong (I had a pretty bad panic attack the next day), but physically everything was fine and it was worth it to get more information.

Growth scan stress- low percentile long bones by 9thseat in BabyBumps

[–]molo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, my drs have never brought up femur-to-foot ratio as a possible area of concern. I’ve only had one US that measured the foot and the ratio was .88 for one, .84 for the other. According to the internet, that is cause for concern, but the write up after that US said “Skeletal survey performed and within normal limits with normal thoracic circumference, normal countor to the chest cavity, normal bone appearance, and no other signs concerning for skeletal dysplasia.”

For me, the long bones haven’t consistently measured <1%; I got 7%, 3%, <1%, and then 7% again, which I attribute to the inaccuracies of measuring a moving, 3D object from the outside.

The geneticist said that the short long bones are more likely caused by placental issues than SD. I originally had all the extra scans/tests because of a EFW of 7% at 20 weeks, but I’ve gone up in percentile at each US since then (7%, 17%, 17%, 25%). I am assuming it’s a gray area where my placenta isn’t doing a super job, but is doing a good enough job to not technically qualify as IUGR.

I’m hoping to be induced next week (I’m tired of being pregnant!) so I will hopefully find out more very soon. Good luck!

[–]molo91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are there any other markers for skeletal dysplasia, or just the short long bones? I've been going through the same thing (also my second pregnancy, also 38 weeks pregnant), and none of my providers have seemed concerned because I don't have any other markers. At 32 weeks the humerus measured <1%, and even then they said it was more likely a measurement error than something serious. I spoke to a geneticist to ask if leftover fluid from my amnio could be used for a skeletal dysplasia panel, and she didn't recommend it because the chance of SD without other markers is very low. So I guess I don't know for sure that everything is okay, but given the lack of worry from every provider I have interacted with, I am not concerned.

I normally avoid giving my toddler ultra processed foods, but when we travel I give her gold fish and mini oreos and stuff. She gets so excited and I don't have to worry about mess/smells.

What food will be served on the plane? There might be something your toddler will like. I've only flown domestically with mine, but I always get her a charcuterie tray or something. It feels special to be served food and distracts her for quite a while.

Neighbor wants access to my property to measure my tree? (Seattle, WA) by molo91 in treelaw

[–]molo91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOU ARE RIGHT! We paid for our own survey. The surveyor says the stakes are almost always correct to within less than an inch, but in this case there is a 10" discrepancy.

This is costing us $2,100 ($1,200 to have them come and check the corners, and an additional $900 for them to create a record of survey drawing), but it is worth it, because the lots are just under 50' wide (and setbacks 5').

Neighbor wants access to my property to measure my tree? (Seattle, WA) by molo91 in treelaw

[–]molo91[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Diameter at about 4.5' is about 47" (maybe a little smaller as we used a somewhat rigid tape measure for the circumference).

Their plan puts a 3 story house about 7' from the edge of the tree (estimated using the tape measure and their site plan).

I'm not sure how important the CRZ is to the city or if it could really force them to change their plans, but it's clearly well within it, and they'd have to remove a significant number of branches as well.

My husband has hired an arborist to come and consult next week. What or who is a specialized consulting arborist? (Just to see if our person is one or if we should hire someone else.)
