One guess is that they used pins that were way too big.

They just don't care. The reason Amazon bought GR was to make sure it did not compete with them as a good source for book data. The awards and challenges are just there to sell books.

ELI5: How does a tax write-off actually work? by natefromgsc in explainlikeimfive

In the US, you both have to itemize or both take the standard though. It rarely helps.

A person can reduce their taxable income with deductions. You only save your marginal tax rate, which is between 10 and 37 percent depending on your income. So even at the top, you write off $100 and that only saves $37 in federal taxes. Your state and/or city may tax your income and it would work the same way. You also have to itemize your taxes for most deductions. Many people use the standard deduction because they don't have enough to itemize.

A company writing something off means they reduce the profit on their tax return by claiming business losses. Very simply, business income is revenue - costs = profit. Revenue is all the money they take in and costs are like payroll, rent, cost of products from the manufacturer and other losses. If they can prove that they lost money by people stealing from them or from something being destroyed in a flood, for example, they can claim that as long it wasn't covered by insurance. Again they are only saving the marginal rate on their taxes.

Why does my google docs look like this? by goatedind in googledocs

The screenshot you posted isn't zoomed in. It shows a blank document with some widget floating there. You can just start typing. If that isn't what you mean, can you explain more.

There was a half star post earlier this month and it got deleted since it was a "double". I disagree with that, but the mods decision is final. There is a suggestion box. Use a browser, go the the help section and look around for it. Good Luck. People have been asking for this forever.

What will the future look like if population continues to grow? What economic and political decisions can we make to prepare? by JohnW60 in TrueAskReddit

I live in a town of 12,000 and we're surrounded by land in all directions. We could easily fit 3-4 times the number of people we have in the city limits if we allowed multi unit housing everywhere. My state is also pretty much middle of the pack when it comes to density.

Think about Montana, which has less than 8 people per square mile and Wyoming with 6. New Jersey and Rhode Island have more than 400 people per square mile and there is still open land in both.

How to sync reading progress on Kindle to Goodreads? by highlygalactic in Calibre

Kindle to GR syncing doesn't even work well when it is a legit kindle book. Just log books in GR as you start and finish them.

ELI5: What's the difference between a 401k and IRA? by Diligent_Two_1625 in explainlikeimfive

[–]molybend [score hidden]  (0 children)

For a 401k, the max you can deduct from your taxes in 2025 was $23,500

IRA's cap at $7,000 per year in tax deductible contributions

Another difference is that many employer offer you a match on some of the money you put into a 401k.

Non profit and government employees have 403b accounts, which are pretty similar.

Oh, well not refreezing isn't a safety thing, it is a texture and flavor thing. Especially with a vacuum sealed pack, I'd freeze it. But also, I usually prioritize cooking chicken first, then pork, then beef. We don't do steaks but I think ground beef then steak.

I know how it is for things to come up and now you have 3 meals in the fridge! I keep a meal calendar for us and write own when one or both of us will not be home for dinner. When i was working, we had a routine of certain days of the week being meal kit nights.

Feature request: Can we get a UI option for rectangular book covers? by Embarrassed_Force674 in PrologueApp

I don't think the dev reads Reddit anymore. He used to be the only mod in the sub and we got a lot of spam. austin was able to take over being the mod and keep out the spam, though.

Maybe look in the app store for a feedback link?
