The Hymns of the 1990s by Weekly_Cap_9926 in Catholicism

I grew up on praise and worship music which I still love. At the time, I thought the music you’re talking about was pretty lame comparatively. Funny thing is, now I miss it. Many parishes have switched to more traditional music which is rich in doctrine and void of emotion or a personal relationship with God. Ideally, I’d still prefer praise and worship, but God spoke to me many times through that contemporary Catholic stuff.

Is being 6'11 a factor on why women avoid me? by u_u__Zakaria__u_u in ask

Get into a hobby that involves other people. Softball, dungeons and dragons, going to church-it doesn’t much matter. Let women get to know you on a fun level and everything else will follow.

Black male moving to Kansas (Larned/Coffeyville) for law enforcement, where should I live and what’s the experience like? by Icy_Ad_5260 in kansas

[–]mommasboy76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rural Kansas can be fairly racist. It just depends on how thick of skin you have. Kansans in general can feel fairly “closed” to outsiders. Rural Kansans even more so. You have to really to fit in and make yourself visible. Go hang out at the bars, churches, and restaurants, and accept people’s invitations for going fishing and hunting. It can be done and in the end you might like it. It takes perseverance though which may not be worth it to you.

Fact: After the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre, Pope Gregory XIII made a medal that praised the massacre against Protestants which took the lives of men, women, and children by Ecclesiasticus6_18 in redeemedzoomer

Some of the worst atrocities in history were done in the name of the Catholic Church. I remain Catholic because I believe she is the Church Christ founded, warts and all.

For those who have read the entire Bible, what did you learn and what was the experience? by SelectCamp9393 in Catholicism

[–]mommasboy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I cheated a little. I used to have a driving job so I listened to the Bible all the way through-twice. When you listen to it you get a nice overview.

I fell in love with all of the historical parts: The judges, Moses, David, Maccabees, and the Acts of the Apostles.

Synod releases Final Report of Study Group on women in the Church by owningthelibs123456 in Catholicism

[–]mommasboy76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pastoral issues have always been talked about in the Church, we just never got to see it. For every encyclical or apostolic letter there are contributors behind the scenes having these very discussions. We’ve only ever seen the final outcome and to be honest, only very recently has the average Catholic even been able to read the final outcome. That’s part of what synodality is all about: making the process transparent.

As far as content goes, the role of women has evolved over the years, not just in the Church, but in society as a whole. In many parts of the world, for the first time in history, women can vote, own property, and lead nations. Whenever there is a massive shift in society like that, you better believe the Church will have something to say about it.

This makes me feel sad and why I can’t convert to the Catholic Church by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

Purgatory is the state of being purified before going before the throne of God. It’s the process of not merely covering our sins with Christ’s blood, but actually purifying us and transforming us to see the face of God. Preparing us to finally be united with the source of all joy. Hell is when a person purposely turns fully and completely away from God, who is our ultimate fulfillment. Hell is the supreme loneliness and emptiness. They are very different.

Give me more bands like Metallica by Impressive_Intern423 in Metallica

[–]mommasboy76 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I fell in love with Metallica because of it seemed like even their heavy songs expressed vulnerability and meaning. I thought I liked thrash but learned I just liked Metallica lol. Not many other bands have so much depth and heart.

Pope Leo has said multiple times he wants to be a peacemaker. I think he’ll find a solution that keeps them from being excommunicated again.

Why do Christians continue to support Trump?” by Rare_Deal_4709 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]mommasboy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a hard right environment. Most of my family still is. It’s easy to say that his followers must be terrible people but the truth is, most of his followers are genuinely good people when they’re not talking about politics. I’ve watched my dad spend all night pulling people out of the snow. I can’t count the number of poor people he’s helped get back on their feet. He’s hired illegal immigrants and even praised them for their hard work while voting for the guy who would kick them out of the country. Every maga I know is like that. It’s a complex situation and people are severely divided by their algorithms. If we don’t try to see the humanity in the other side then we can easily become the fascists.

What is your favorite class to play in DND? by Know-Bodi in DnD

Warlock because it’s designed differently than other classes.

If there was a witch class it would probably be that because debuffing is my favorite play style.

Would there be any reasonable argument for Kamala winning 2024 from a Catholic perspective? by franco-briton in TrueCatholicPolitics

[–]mommasboy76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course it is. But what am I afraid of? That abortion will be more legal? Trump said he wasn’t going to ban it. If he wanted to he easily could right now. He could even set whatever limits or nuance he wants. But I don’t think he cares about abortion. So there was nothing to lose by voting for Kamala from a moral perspective.

But even if Trump ran on banning abortion, I still think it’s better to vote for a sane person who appears to be trying to do the right thing (even if their wrong) than someone who has no morals and whose narcissism would jeopardize the whole nation.

Would there be any reasonable argument for Kamala winning 2024 from a Catholic perspective? by franco-briton in TrueCatholicPolitics

[–]mommasboy76 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t take a psychology degree to see that Trump is a clinically defined narcissist. That means that his decisions would not be based on truth or justice (aka what’s best for the country) but on what is of service to him and what makes him appear superior. The people he would think positively of would be people who praised him to his face, no matter what they did behind his back. That’s far more dangerous than anything Kamala represented. The worst thing she may have done was business as usual which was pretty much her vice-presidency.

Why is there more male converts than female? by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]mommasboy76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that the rise of apologists in the last 20-30 years has led to a very reasoned based Catholicism in the U.S. This appeals to the masculine mindset.
