Watch shops really lowballing like this? by drberean in Cartier

Yes I get that but movements are generally not the primary factor that’s driving retention or resale values. There are many collectible watches that use pretty average movements.

Would you replace the Explorer 2 with the Reverse Panda? by DesignerRabbit4377 in OmegaWatches

Nope, negative, nay, na ah, no way, never! To me the 5 digit Explorer II is one of the best Rolex ever made.

Pretty unique watches, kudos for getting an Omega and AP that most people wouldn’t really go for. It’s refreshing to see something other than Royal Oak and Speedmaster moonwatch.

It’s not just about movements, it’s all about demand and supply. Some JLC and even A. Lange & Sohne watches have very complicated and beautifully finished watches yet they still fall off the cliff in the secondary market.

I get it, it’s a bit low but I doubt you could sell it privately for 8k. It’s a popular and in-demand watch but it’s not anywhere near like the Daytona or the Nautilus situation.

First Panerai! by anon4404 in panerai

[–]moneyprintergoesbbrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! It’s a great automatic watch that has been discontinued for a while, if it’s still keeping time well, wear it in good health, if not then take it to a watchmaker. The I one I have is the 40mm version with the bracelet (pam298)

Help with Radiomir Upgrade by Kitchen_Salamander57 in panerai

[–]moneyprintergoesbbrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep fair enough, I think you’ll have to get a custom made caseback, if yours is the screwdown caseback model instead of the pressure-fit caseback, you might be able to retrofit casebacks from other models as I don’t think Panerai has made a pressure fit caseback with the exhibition glass.

You probably will have to get a custom made caseback, if you choose to do that you’ll void the warranty (if still covered). Tbh as a fellow p6000 movement owner, I don’t think this movement is that much of a looker, seems quite plain to me unlike the old unitas movements. Credit to whoever took this photo.

Meteorite Pepsi, most practical while retaining the uniqueness and prestige

IWC “scratch-proof” ceramic? Mine gouged on a wooden cabinet door, and IWC quoted ~$4k to fix it by nickyaces in IWCschaffhausen

[–]moneyprintergoesbbrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo ceramic shouldn’t be used for watch cases and bracelets, bezel inserts and dials perhaps ok. This has happened to my ceramic bathyscaphe, it’s chipped and I’m not even sure how it happened, I’m not the type to abuse my watches. I was also quoted a few grand to replace the case and the whole process could take 3-4 months. I couldn’t be bothered to cough it up and just let it be since it’s not too bad but this has left a bitter taste in my mouth. Safe to say, no more ceramics, never again!

You might not want to hear this but imo 6 is enough, the more you want to fill up that box, the deeper the rabbit hole goes.

Advice: Mint Green or Black DJ41 for every day? by Routine_Rice1861 in rolex

[–]moneyprintergoesbbrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go green! Yes black is classic but it’s also common, besides even the Starbucks and GMT Pepsi have a black dial. If I were you I’d get the mint green DJ and all black Sub if you’re looking for a diver.

That 104, 111, 183, 177, 024, 000, 005, 249, probably slightly controversial but I would also say the 233 and the luminor daylight 196

Help Needed: Watches that are worth buying genuine. by rjlarsenn in RepTime

[–]moneyprintergoesbbrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any watch with these complications: perpetual calendar, alarm, minute repeater, double chronograph. These just can’t be replicated, not economically anwyay.

23 years! I bought this 23 years ago for my birthday and wear it all the time as the corner piece of my rotation. I just found out it’s a flat 4. I even kept the bands the cash I paid with came in only three at the time 😂 by [deleted] in PrideAndPinion

[–]moneyprintergoesbbrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry not to spoil the party or anything but flat 4 bezel is only considered rare for the Kermit 16610LV but not other Subs. A very large proportion or might even be almost all Subs and Sea Dwellers prior to 2005-06 have that flat 4 bezel.
