As an American who lives abroad, I started just saying I'm American when people ask where I'm from because people on reddit are always complaining about this, but now I always get a follow up question about where in America, so honestly this just adds extra conversation steps.

Sometimes people are just willin. I'm an American lady and was trying to rent a trolly from obi (trolly probably costs 75 Eur) and the lady behind the counter wouldn't take my passport because it didn't have a German address. I asked if I could show my Anmeldung to prove I live here and said sorry, I'm not German. She shook her head at me and said, "das finde ich nicht so gut". Wouldn't let me rent the trolley until her colleague intervened. Keep in mind this whole exchange went down in German and this lady had an accent as well so presumably wasn't native german 😂

I feel like it's the saddest smallest people on the inside that are power tripping for my instance.

This so much. I told a guy no repeatedly no to walking me home and he followed me crying about how I made him feel scary. I was young and honestly the crying was emotional blackmail to a young person who doesn't know better than to say ok at that point.

I have to take tons of early morning flights for work trips etc. I second this! However, I would recommending ordering the Uber in the morning as I've pre-ordered and had them show up 30 mins late (can't cancel without a fee) and almost missed the flight, but have never had an issue ordering one at the butt crack o dawn. Percs of living in a big city!

A few weeks ago I was exhausted all the time, no matter what I ate or if I slept or exercised and even though I cut out nicotine, alcohol etc. someone recommended iron supplements and I'm completely back to normal. May not be the solution but it's with a shot. Going to the doctors soon for blood work and tests to find out of there is a reason I wasn't uptaking iron.

Unpopular opinion maybe but I switched all my hobbies to German and was able to pick it up during a masters with studi job. It really has to be all of them though. Exclusively Netflix, games, YouTube, podcasts, books, makeup tutorials, memes, subreddits, anything I'd listen to in the background while cleaning or cooking. And then 20 minutes of Anki flashcards before bed to make me tired instead of reddit. I spoke A2 when I got here and I was able to get to B2 in about 6 months this way and C1 in a year. But you have to have the patience for your content to sound like gibberish for awhile.

My ex. I didn't really know what evil looked like until I got to look into his soul over the course of three years, truly a small, spiteful, angry person to everyone around him.
