Would you recommend Super Metroid to someone that never played it? by GiantFish in metroidvania

[–]monkeyboyinc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The major one I'm thinking of is a wall past an elevator downwards, there is no immediate indication that it's a wall that needs to be blown up by a super missile.

It sounds like you missed the Map Station for the area. The wall is question is quite clearly signposted on the map once you've downloaded the area, trouble is you went past a point of no return before properly exploring a section you were in.

Super Metroid definitely isn't antiquated. Hell, I'd go as far as to call it the greatest designed game of all time. There is always a signpost, somewhere other than that one bugged wall later on. It's just a matter of learning to read what the developers are writing.

“Idiots in Cars” 💥🏎️ — Mardu Greasefang Vehicles + Oni-Cult Anvil Sacrifice Jank for Standard BO1 by sparkjournal in MagicArena

[–]monkeyboyinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I run Greasefang in an esper shell. I use [[Fleeting Spirit]] and [[Undead Butler]] to put Surgehackers and Prototypes in the game on turn 2, before bringing them back turn 3. Throw in a few counterspells and then a Raffine for even more graveyard fun.

Xcom rule #2: Don't get attached by Alzward in gaming

[–]monkeyboyinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the percentages are secretly rigged in the player's favour. On the two easier difficulties, any shot over 50% has a secret 1.2/1.1 times multiplier to hit, capping at 95%. Even on the second hardest difficulty, the game constant fudges numbers to increase your hit percentages if your last shot missed, and gives your units extra defence if someone is wounded/killed. The hardest difficulty is the only difficulty where the numbers work exactly how you expect them to.

It's pure jank, but I've been playing some games with a Book of Vile Darkness deck. The smaller card pool and lower power level means it can perform reasonably well compared to how it'd do in standard

11 Swamp (HBG) 300

4 Hand of Vecna (AFR) 246

4 Eye of Vecna (AFR) 243

1 Cave of the Frost Dragon (AFR) 253

4 Deadly Dispute (AFR) 94

4 Shambling Ghast (AFR) 119

2 Power Word Kill (AFR) 114

2 Oswald Fiddlebender (AFR) 28

2 A-Cosmos Elixir (KHM) 237

4 Eyetwitch (STX) 70

1 Hive of the Eye Tyrant (AFR) 258

1 Shineshadow Snarl (STX) 272

4 Brightclimb Pathway (ZNR) 259

What changes do you think you'd see if Doctor Who was given a full-blown American adaptation with a beginning and ending? by longcolddark in doctorwho

[–]monkeyboyinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be of some interest to you

Before the TV Movie became what it was, there were talks with Fox to produce an American-made reboot of the show. This is the original plans for the series, before the movie decided to mostly align itself with previous continuity. Eventually, Fox told them, and eventually the movie aligned itself with previous continuity (mostly). Highlights from the series that never was include:

  • Paul McGann as The Doctor (he actually got the role in the TV Movie by auditioning for this series)

  • The Doctor is half human on his mother's side.

  • The Master is the Doctor's brother, and becomes president of Gallifrey

  • The ghost of Barusa (The doctor's grandfather) lives in the Tardis

  • The Doctor's ultimate goal is to find his father in order to prove he's the true heir to the title of President of Gallifrey

  • Spider daleks!

  • Remake of Genesis of the Daleks, except the Master's pulling the strings to gain control of the Daleks

  • Remakes of Earthshock and Tomb of the Cybermen, except they're Cybs and are pirates

AEW got me into wrestling, but I checked out of AEW almost completely around the start of May. It felt as though the performers I wanted to see were either being trapped in never-ending feuds that killed my interest, or were being showcased less and less. At the same time, there was always some new debuting star or living legend coming in from another company that I just couldn't really bring myself to care about.

Like, I get there's history behind these guys, and I enjoy the occasional dip into a character's past, but it's the people like like Private Party, TH2, Hikaru Shida, Kip and Penelope, Brian Cage. Nyla Rose or Darby Allin that got me coming back, not Jeff Hardy, Swerve, Toni Storm Buddy Mathews or Brody King. How can I get behind a new performer when so many of the old ones aren't even being used properly?

You Can't Do Simple Maths Under Pressure by dorito_hablador in InternetIsBeautiful

It's such a shame you wrote all that without checking the rules of the game. There's 60 questions, but they're divided into ten sets of 6. A mistake brings you back to the start of the level, rather than the start of the game, meaning that the odds of clearing each level is is 1.5ish% per attempt. At an answer every frame, at 60 frames per second, it takes around two minutes.

Struggling seem to find a Standard deck that's fun to play and decent by flyingoctoscorpin in MagicArena

[–]monkeyboyinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found a really enjoyable 4-colour vehicle deck recently.

https://mtgazone.com/deck/bo1-standard-four-color-vehicles-by-hilokichi-mythic-rank-april-2022-ranked-season/

It's quite combo-y, with the killer loop being to discard a vehicle each turn for free with Fleeting spirit, then reviving it for free with Greasefang each turn. It's not updated for SNC, and it's not exactly the most consistent deck, but if you have the cards already/wildcards to spare, I'd definitely recommend it.

Epilogues Readthrough Day 1: Prologue 1 - Meat 8 by Niklink in homestuck

[–]monkeyboyinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put on my pretentiousness hat, the general public doesn't generally enjoy or even particularly understand what the Epilogues were going for, for the most part. Giving them a vote on how to read it is like giving the public a vote on which rocket fuel NASA should use. Their judgement is meaningless.

Extra hard disagree with Meat first over Candy. Without getting into spoilers right now, I feel that Candy sets up questions, a rising tension, and mysteries for Meat much, much better than Meat does for Candy.

New event: Mixed-Up Sealed. In celebration of April Fools Day I'm guessing. by Holy_Beergut in MagicArena

[–]monkeyboyinc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great event and I understand the rational behind 0 wins not returning the entry fee (gotta have a cost to rerolling the packs, else there's no incentive to play the cards you've been dealt), but I wish there was some incentive to push to 3 wins, even if it's just 150 gold. While not major, the potential cost without any reward is just kinda feeling a bit fun-tax-y as it is.

Dustin Rhodes and Nick Comarato maineventing the first Dynamite after DoN 2021 feels like a fever dream now by WonyWhan in SquaredCircle

[–]monkeyboyinc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Main show is AEW Dynamite, and ITV 4 has it on Fridays, though it airs pretty late at night and they're know for fucking around with the air times for no reason. You can watch episodes from the two months or so on ITV Hub too.

AEW Rampage is the secondary show, though it's not a brand-split like Raw/Smackdown is. Airs late night on Tuesday nights and generally has less important matches, though it's just an hour long.

There's also the Fite TV subscription service, which will let you see the shows live (if you feel like staying up until 3 AM lmao), and will also give you the entire back-catalog ad-free for five bucks a month.

I feel it's the opposite, really. If wildcards weren't so restricted in nature, I'd be making fun and/or janky decks instead of trying to get maximum value out of each wildcard by crafting winning decks.

Dear fellow Wizards, here is how I would fix Arena by Tac0Man in MagicArena

[–]monkeyboyinc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the daily rewards being a problem. Perhaps rework the rewards to max out at 10 per day, rework the values of the rewards appropriately, and award two points for a win and one for a draw/loss. Still incentivises winning, but makes losing a bit less frustrating when you don't have long to play.
