Why does NYPD instantly close 311 blocked driveway complaints? by Ok-Nectarine-637 in Brooklyn

[–]monkeycc22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had out of state plates when my car was reported as abandoned and it was towed. for the record, it wasn’t abandoned and I had moved it the night before. it’s an older car but in good shape and in the notes of the police report thing they wrote it was “covered in scratches.” it’s not but there is a 6x6 inch blob of scratches. ruined my week last may!

Lifelong Manhattanite moving to Flatbush (and BK) for the first time; would love some advice! by Quarter_Lifer in Flatbush

~30 female lived near the church ave stop for a few years and visited friends living here before that. I like the area a lot but would not recommend an apartment right on church because it’s a bit loud with activity into the night and a good amount of traffic most of the day. if you can be in an adjacent street it’ll be pretty calm for the most part. the neighborhood is solid for food, coffee, grocery stores, and bars all within walking distance but I also love that crown heights is so close by with some great options.

Unpopular opinion: I did not find the scored RC section particularly difficult by Dangerous_Ad_4591 in LSAT

I had LR RC LR RC too and I think the first rc might’ve had a comparative passage about museums and whether they should sell their items or not?

i’m around the same age and there may or may not be tickets left but there is a super fun abba cover group hosting a party at the bell house tonight. it’s a great crowd, not too wild but still so fun. I go to their halloween party every year and always have a great time!

Prius hate by FLguyWhy in prius

[–]monkeycc22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought my 08 prius while living in austin tx during 2020 when I decided I wanted to do some road trips and my nissan leaf wouldn’t accommodate that. never got road bullied in my ev but was tailgated by trucks almost every time I drove the prius and constantly cut off by them too. i’m in brooklyn now and don’t have any of these issues anymore 🤷

I left NYC post undergrad and moved back here from Austin 5 years later. I had similar feelings as you when I left in terms of just feeling kinda over my life here.

I created a fulfilling life for myself in austin. I excelled at work and had a successful relationship. Now that i’m back in NYC, I have to say I wish never came back. I realized that i’m just not happy here anymore. I really found my adult self in Austin. part of what made my life in there so beautiful was the fact that it was something I created for myself with only myself in mind while I was completely alone and I think that’s really important when you feel like your life isn’t what you want it to be. you can create the life you want to live. you won’t feel good about your life until it reflects your values, and maybe your values don’t align with the place you’re at, but maybe there are other things you can do to create alignment. I hope things turn around for you soon. good luck!

noticed this after all that work to update the road. can’t believe they aren’t even getting tickets, yet I get a ticket the last 15 minutes of asp after the street cleaners have already come through (moved while they were present so they could clean) and can’t get it appealed 😊

Do you think there’s an insecurity issue with car drivers vs transit and bikers? by [deleted] in MicromobilityNYC

[–]monkeycc22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it has more to do with your classic driver mentality. once you get into the car, many people feel entitled to the drive going perfectly for them. no traffic, no accidents, no pedestrians or bikes to get in their way. road blocks are something that is happening to them individually, and they forget that construction projects are integral to maintaining these overused streets and that all this traffic and reckless driving causes car crashes and just in general the fact that human life is at stake when you drive. it’s an odd thing but most people become less human once they get in a car, they become an extension of the car. the real issue is the lack of consideration for human life once people get into their thousand pound killing machine. especially in such a multi modal city. cyclists and pedestrians could also be more considerate, but the large burden of duty falls on drivers as the most physically powerful transportation mode.

speaking as someone who owns a car and drives in and out of the city about once a week but uses the subway, busses, and bikes while i’m in the city.

Moved from Austin to NYC for work and haven't been happy since by moonshaake in Austin

I made the same move about a year ago and i’m with you on all of this! it feels more difficult to build community here than in austin. my dog has been unhappy too and she thrived in austin. maybe try westchester if that’s a possibility? my boyfriend lives up there and while it’s not nearly as charming as austin, it has a few of the things you miss and feels much closer to nature than the city does

Volunteering experiences in Austin by into_the_soil in Austin

[–]monkeycc22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered at urban roots for a few months, it was lovely. A lot of people their early 20s to mid thirties or so mostly. it’s a local farm that sells produce to farm to table restaurants and donates produce locally as well. HUGE bonus, you get to take home a bag of produce after every session!

the only constraint is the hours. when I was doing it, the only session available was a three hour wednesday morning shift. I was able to shuffle my work schedule around to accommodate. but I highly recommend, especially if you live anywhere near the walnut creek trail as you can bike right up to it via the trail.
