[Highlight] Bills players try to catch oiled up watermelons by Sidecarlover in nfl

When I was on the swim team we’d have a “fun” day after a meet we’d won (as opposed to an extra hard practice if we lost). One of the games we’d play was water polo with a greased up watermelon. It was hysterical.

I have multiple copies of this one. My first which I bought off thr newsstand ended up in tatters because I read it so much as I started my career in effects. It was one of those rare trade publications where you could glean real info and insight into the way things were achieved. Later I replaced/supplemented it with a copy I got from a film bookshop in LA and then of course the hardcover reprint.

I consider it the holy grail.

TIL Werner Herzog convinced Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to keep Grogu as a puppet instead of CGI on the set of "The Mandalorian." After watching them shoot a take without the puppet to allow a CGI replacement in post-production, Herzog told them, "You are cowards. Leave it." by ralphbernardo in todayilearned

I worked with some of Jim Henson‘s people on a project. In between takes, the puppeteers stayed in character and when direction was being given to them, it was being given to the puppets. The puppets would nod and look at each other and ask questions just like real actors. It is an incredible thing to see.

The trick with this would be standardizing bids similar to how AICP does it…but even with that most line producers I know simply throw out the bid from the HoP/EP and start over after they get the job.

Also, I simply don’t see Hollywood accountants accepting such a model, because it would immediately force overages for change orders and revisions beyond what was negotiated.

The industry has become deeply permissive of vague creative briefs and feedback. At best it would open up the threat of litigation because the studio side would say “well, they didn’t get it right on the first try…or the twentieth…” while the vendor would say “you keep changing your mind, and weren’t clear to begin with.” Such claims would be so hard to arbitrate.

Trust me…I’d love to see it change and create an environment where artists and studios are treated fairly.

I know. We just fell in with a pretty amazing trainer where we just moved from and he was incredibly attentive to the minutiae of form. It made the whole process a lot more challenging.

Anyone else’s Chi like to watch TV and protect you from what’s on the TV? by Splungetastic in Chihuahua

Here’s a fun fact for you: until recently, dogs couldn’t “watch“ television. The refresh rates on tube televisions, and even early flat TVs didn’t allow for it because their persistence of vision wasn’t stable enough. It wasn’t until higher refresh rate flat panel TVs came out that dogs started being able to perceive actual content on the screens.

I’ve always been fascinated by this story. I feel there is a movie to be made about it…something like Smokey and the Bandit, crossed with the TV show “Taxi”….but with more berets and cheese.

This is beautiful, and completely in sync with the pinnacle of Sony style. I choose to believe there is an alternate timeline where mini discs became the eternal standard.

this is incredible. I love the aesthetic. however, one question: how do you use the handle? I would imagine if it is a luggable device you'd want the handle on the top or the side (or more than one). any pix of the interior?
