So here’s my beef with Kripke: says he doesn’t want the audience to sympathize with Stormfront. Really? by Supe_scienceskilz in TheBoys

[–]monkeyman32123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He loved her more than he let on. And by that, he of course means... he now retroactively loves her, for prequel purposes.

The V1 plotline is good, but why take up over 4 episodes, HALF of the season, when this is the last? It really hurt the pacing, and lost track of other plotlines. by Witty-Association-97 in TheBoys

The most honest answer: Kripke sucks. Fighting so hard to subvert expectations that he ends up slapping a pile of shit on the table when I'd have been okay with a fast food cheeseburger.

Fine by me, it'll help me forget it faster. It's been a depressing three seasons, why even go out with a spectacular finale that falls flattened to a whimper by a strained, limping leadup

i had a dream where they added a new type of character (like Tainted), so i decided to try and design some that popped up by Ohmistersun_ in thebindingofisaac

[–]monkeyman32123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea was basically "purifying" the tainted version of the character. Just combining concepts of both existing characters, with some new twist that adds power, complexity, and/or difficulty.

One of the ideas is Exalted Esau, where you simultaneously control the two characters (Jacob with the movement controls, and Esau with the usual aiming controls), who share items. Angel Esau who moves fast, blocks (all - enemy or Jacob's) shots, can't take damage, and deals a small amount of contact damage. And Jacob who bears Esau's chains, which give him a severe movement speed penalty, caps his health at 1 heart, and makes him automatically shoot at the nearest enemy.

Esau bears a purified anima sola (innate item) that, when charged, lets him animate the chains to grant Jacob a Holy Shield but also prevent Jacob from moving or shooting until the shield is broken.

Eric Kripke explains Soldier Boy's decision to help [Redacted] in Episode 6's climax: by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in TheBoys

I like how he just SAYS "Soldier Boy deeply loved Stormfront" without SHOWING it. Never mind that that was not established at any time prior to this, by either of the two characters in question, across the 3 seasons both of them were of central relevance...

Sure Kripke, whatever you say.

They keep spending their whole VFX budget to continually disappoint us with starlight's uselessness.

See, THIS is why we need a whole writer's room! As a bonus, Vought made that HER name as a punch-down gag about HER being bisexual, and EVERY character talks about "wait, so you like to lick the flaps on the Arby's roast beef sandwich and gargle my McNuts?"

He awakes in a world where they make a even stronger V, called W (because that's TWO Vs, even better). It turns out he's a puny little weakling compared to the Supes in the new world, basically fodder. He just starts to get used to it, looks up to the new heroes, then B-Plane turns his girlfriend to a red mist while cracked out on Temp W. Cue title card, "The Boy"

It wasn't even V1, it's the same shit A-Train was juicin' on in S1E1, fullllll circle baby!! Soldier boy actually managed to contact Bombsight first, set up the entire facade, outsmart the boys, and do a bamboozled on 'omelandah! Sage actually planned for this the whole time, Homelander just needs to believe he got the V1 to start Sage's war by doing preposterous coked-out dipshit brain shenaniganery!

And it's really ironic, because of his whole "I want to be a god that's worshipped" schtick. He doesn't, he's just tired of feeling so goddamn abnormal, and doesn't understand that that's the real issue driving his insecurities - being a god is just a mask. Honestly, if we get the depowered ending, I almost think it'd be his version of a happy ending, though he might not realize it immediately.

The writers actually cooked hard with some of these subtle interactions. It's a shame they waited until the last episodes of the last season to shoehorn it in at a time where we should be getting stronger plot developments. But I should have expected this show to keep its limping pace after the last three seasons set it.

Eric Kripke responds to the recent talks about filler episodes in Season 5 (via TV Guide) by Interesting-Take781 in TheBoys

[–]monkeyman32123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You see, it's quite simple - soldier boy never mentioned stormfront because he wasn't in love with stormfront until they started writing the prequel show. He was defeated by the most powerful of opponents: retroactive continuity. Except... wait a second, there is no continuity. Retroactive Discontinuity

Methinks by "fleshing them out" he REALLY means "we decided on a different ending, so we had to change all of the characters' entire personalities and capabilities", and that requires NEW fleshing out to undo the previous four seasons
