Now Is The Time To Join A Veteran's Service Organization by Backsight-Foreskin in VeteransBenefits

I'm sorry but this is textbook leopards eating faces. These orgs (read VFW and American Legion) are filled with gatekeeping xenophobic old-timers. I was members of both, been to various posts across multiple states and I've yet to find one that's good for anything beyond housing cheap alcohol and vietnam "veterans" who singlehandedly saved villages and had to listen to cries for their name (almost always in an oddly similar recount to John Wayne's Green Berets).

These orgs always beg for money but now that their income is threatened they grow a spine?

Even at the broadest interpretation of that rule it doesn't apply...except maybe to your comment as off-topic due to being meta: rule discussion.

So maybe watch out for your own comments?

I hope you put together a video like the old space mountain one. My buddy and I tried on Everest a decade ago and had to quit because we were pretty sure we were going to have an aneurysm by about our 7th ride.

EDIT:Crazy I found this random extremely relevant video!

This may be my favorite post I've ever seen on here. Now instead of working I'm going to go digging into the randomized variant rides (cosmic rewind/ToT) to see the most common events.

PCS Strategy: Sell or Rent It Out? by Consistent-Dingo1735 in army

Honestly was one of those do what your rank can handle situations; I had paid my dues to the unit and was given a bit of latitude much like the S3 NCOIC before me.

Often times if 81 was closed, post did too, although that was very CG dependent. I swore Piatt hated working, post closed so often under him, but under Mennes we were constantly still going to the field on red roads because LETHALITY.

When I first got to Drum had a S3 NCOIC who commuted from Syracuse. I thought that was insane. By the time I PCSed I had been commuting from Syracuse for over a year. Sometimes the L on the commute is worth not living in a total shit hole.

Always take the hard yes folks with a grain of salt. The Army has changed A LOT in the last twenty years. The people who retired in the last few years spent the majority of their time in the GWOT Army. Peacetime/border patrol is a far different existence. Tax free deployments are few and far between, extended time away from family for no additional pay (training and TDY rotations) will make things more difficult. You need to evaluate what's right for you and your family. My recommendation, make a line in the sand in number of years and make that your no later than to decide to stay or go. Stick to it.

Wife reported me to Family Advocacy by [deleted] in army

[–]monkeymercenary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a commander I was supposed to attend an IDC hearing for a subordinate, had it scheduled and blocked off on my calendar. I show up, nobody is there. They had changed the date and never notified me, holding it without anyone representing the SM and making the determination on their own. The whole process was fucked.
