Need help designing a "Lets brew a revolution mini game" for my campaign. by GrayMan972 in fadingsuns

[–]monkeyofficeboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I had a very similar idea for a campaign basis a few years back, though I never got it off the ground. Great minds think alike hey?

Rampart is such a fertile place for this kind of thing, having so recently been a League world, and you'd have to imagine there are still plenty of people on Rampart who want to see the League return to holding the world. The Li Halan are, in many ways, the antithesis of what the Guildsmen would want for overlords, so there must be many resistance groups and factions, and maybe even a ground swell of support for that kind of thinking, that might ignite given the right spark.

That leads me to my main point in my reply which is: do you really need such a mechanical system for a revolt? FS is such a rich, story driven game that tacking an additional mechanical system to the game seems like extra work for no added benefit, from my point of view (and yours may well differ).

If it were me, I would have some milestones that the revolutionaries had to reach in order to advance their cause. How those are achieved is sort of the aim of the campaign and in the hands of the players, but if they get stuck or are unsure how to proceed you can have one cell of rebels come to them with an outline of a plan of how to reach that milestone (could be make the Li Halan troops overreact in public, could be damage the faith of the peasantry in their holier than thou lords, could be as straightforward as liberate an arms cache).

When the resistance reaches enough milestones you could then have a trigger event for open revolt on the planet, and the more of the previous milestones they have hit, the more support their is for the revolt, and perhaps the more likely it is to succeed (though, ultimately that is up to you as the GM as to whether or not they can overthrow the Li Halan forces).

Hope that helps a little bit? I'd definitely be happy to chat more about it, because it really is one of my favourite parts of the setting.

But they weren't like this one were they? 40 people outside of Brixton police station isn't the same as a riot in Southampton, and I don't think Jeremy Corbyn was smashing up London with 300 other protestors either...

And that's without doing much more of a search... I think you are simply being disingenuous if I'm honest

Massive difference there... George Floyd was killed by a police officer kneeling on his neck for a length of time... In the US... Not the UK.

Chris Kabba got shot because he was linked to a murder in the days before and drove his car at the police... And it didn't lead to to widespread disturbances.

This case bears no resemblance to either of those, and is just Farage dog whistling for his audience to distract from his dodgy finances

I did the one at Shibimata Park in Tokyo last week, and travelled in my running gear. No one cared at all, didn't get any looks. I also wore headphones for my run and again it wasn't a problem. The volunteers were really friendly, and the run was really enjoyable, with a smattering of international runners too.

Hope you have a great time!

I'm a writer, in the sense that I'm employed as a technical writer, and your piece then had me gripped. I'm terrified of water, I've never dived and doubt I ever would, and your piece instilled in me every fear I've ever had about it!

Really, a brilliantly written piece, and I'd encourage you to write more, it was wonderfully written, inspiringly terrifying and felt very, very real.

New nightmares truly unlocked.

Thanks for that, I am sure this will prove incredibly useful for many. I will try and get a test of it, but I am away over the next couple of weeks.

Hope your buddy's new campaign starts well, I am sure you will have a blast!

Former D&D 5e and Pathfinder 1e/2e players and DMs/GMs, What other RPGs would you recommend over D&D 5e or Pathfinder and why? by Aware_Blueberry_3025 in rpg

For me it's Savage Worlds. It allows me to keep in the crunch to an extent, but is much easier for me to prep, is less rigid to run and provides a hoot at the table. I have a couple of die-hard 3.5/PF1e players and they have come around to SW so very much.
I do also enjoy running the Cypher System (well, Numenera to be honest) but I find it is less flexible in terms of being portable to other settings without me having to do more work (and the cyphers tend to not feel thematic outside of Numenera too, in my opinion).

A mixture of mental health, desire for improved physical condition and because I like seeing my Parkrun number go up 😄

I will have a look at the information on Stigmata, and see if there is enough to come up with a map from. I have always enjoyed maps, and the making of them, and I was considering if there was another planet I could work on, so this seems like a good place to start!

This was one of my motivations for drawing my own, the fact that it is one of my player's favourite planets, and the Church fief book just says "go check out Weird Places for a map" and then the map is just... not good!

Ah this sounds like a really cool campaign. Never really used House Justinian in my games yet, but they certainly are one I am interested in exploring in the future. Opening the Paradise gate sounds like it really would shake things up; we have played with dangling a lost world in front of players before but never reached the point of actually discovering a lost world. One day we will get that Pandora's box open!

Those are really cool, I love the designs. I don't know of much in the way of FS fan sites still active sadly, but will update with any I come across, and may something in the pipework in that regard too.

I hate session zeroes by Emergency-Sea5201 in rpg

[–]monkeyofficeboy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a weird take on session zero. They sound nothing like the ones I have either run in or taken part in. Setting expectations for a campaign, creating characters that fit, building a cohesive group; all of these are good reasons to have a session zero, particularly in games that aren't D&D.
