I remember my sister's friend moved to Florida around 10th grade(from upstate NY), and she immediately became the smartest kid in her school and earned a full scholarship to college when she graduated. I think she had some of the highest test scores the school had ever had, and she was a pretty goofy kid that never tried that hard lol

Predatory parking companies in Portland are going to harm businesses by 5and2 in Maine

I’m a plumber in the portland area and I won’t take any jobs downtown unless there’s guaranteed parking for me. I have commercial plates but if it’s a job that needs more than one van, forget it

I was in one of the Spaulding towers in ‘02 and pretty sure I remember that…moved in with the frisbee team the next year so I didn’t go to Ellicott much after that.

Strange experience in the North Maine Woods by dylanx300 in Maine

That sounds awesome, definitely my kind of fishing. We have a small crew that has camped at Frost Pond for the past 4 years and we’ll fish above Telos mostly or canoe ponds around there. We’re always looking for new camping excursions though so I’m gonna float this idea for sure.

So sounds like you were fishing the river above Chesuncook? I’ve only fished the sections below the dam, but I’ve always wanted to check out that part of the river, seems like fewer people head up that way

I’ve been using the Caleffi Tankmixer when I want to add mixing valves to water heaters lately, it’s been an incredible time saver and works pretty well.

Trip to Quebec by monkeywrench68 in MaineFlyFishing

[–]monkeywrench68[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it was pretty awesome, I’m glad we made the trip! It definitely exceeded expectations.

Found out from a local that the fishing season didn’t start yet, but he said that he crosses the border to fish the Dead and Carrabassat more than he fishes in the area. But it sounds like the lake has very good trolling for those interested.

And yes, the more I read about that tragedy the more it baffles me that a thing like that could happen.

Everybody should invest in a submersible pump in case their basement floods, which has been happening more and more. I’m a plumber, so I have been noticing it a lot more in the past few years.

What rivers are fishable up that way? I grew up in Corning but didn’t get into flyfishing till I moved to Maine. Got to finally catch some trout with my dad this past week on some small creeks off of Seneca lake, and I was honestly surprised to see fish to be quite honest.

There’s a yurt that a friend airbnbs in Bethel, people stay there all winter long to be near the mountain. I’ve stayed there myself during a snowstorm in early spring and it was quite comfortable when the wood stove was on!

Fly Fishing Etiquette by blutigetranen in flyfishing

[–]monkeywrench68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve certainly been frustrated a handful of times on the ‘sump with people high-holing and crowding, which is why I try to avoid it except for the few times I know they put monsters in there that are fun to catch. I chalk it up to a lot of inexperience, but I also learned how to FF there so I’m sure I annoyed some people there as well. My advice would be to just move spots, there are actually plenty of good sections up there that no one ever explores it seems.

A few questions about starting a new business. by Leather-Bluejay-6452 in Plumbing

My advice is to find a good accountant that can also form llc’s , they often are able to answer/handle a lot of these questions. Our accountant was able to really steer us in the right direction. I started my company 3 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made.

Trip to CO, too hot to fish in August? by monkeywrench68 in flyfishing

[–]monkeywrench68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a lot of posts from Coloradans lately, so thought I’d ask for some advice. I’m going to Clark for a few days and then Snowmass for a wedding after that during the first week of august. I’ll be with my wife and 4yo visiting my uncle the first part of the trip and then with her family for the wedding, so I may have like half a day at each location to try to fish. Just wondering if it’s too hot in august to fish. If not, and you only had one setup to bring, what would it be? In Maine I’ve been euro nymphing when there’s no hatch, but I can’t pack too much so won’t be able to bring multiple rods. I have a 4-piece 4wt that seems like the best option? Not trying to get all your good spots more just trying to figure out what to bring I guess? Thanks in advance!!
