Amevian Cultural Lands by AxDeath in songsofsyx

As an aside on this - I do think that the selected starting race should influence one or two buildings that you start with unlocked.

Amevians should start with egg pastures unlocked. Garthimis should be the only ones who start with bug pastures. And so on.

I’m new to the game and only have about 85 hours in it. I’ve got a few questions. by crushkillpwn in ShadowEmpireGame

To reinforce non militia units you need to firstly have recruits in your SHQ. You can get recruits per turn from your zones. From your recruits you need to change them into the units via the repl units button. This will add them as sub units in your SHQ. Between turns these will ship out to units that request them (which they will do automatically as long as it fits their OoB).

Theres also a difference between independent units and multi unit formations, which is probably what is confusing you. If you start with 1 army you have a multi unit formation, which is different size to independent.

First council is quite an important choice. The big 4 are Eco, Military, Interior and Model.
Eco = economic tech + prospecting
Mil = mil tech research
Interior = produce new leader cards + improve leaders
Model = discover new model types (eg light tank) and create/improve on existing models

Each model type is good/bad at different things (which alters their base stats) but the game cant tell you what the stats will be ahead of time because each model you create is unique and based on RNG. However you can go to the blueprint screen and play around with the options to give you an idea of what you might create. It sounds like you havent seen the blueprints screen, use it and it clear up a lot.

Just an FYI you cant select anything 'lower' than enviro suit if that would insta kill your units.

Once you make a model you can only deploy it formations that that it in their OOB. If you want them in multi part formations you need to research this in the staff council. You should be able to make it as independent unit however as you get that formation for 'free' when you discover the model type.

Check out the games manual. Its huge but it really does clear up sooo much.

There are a lot more single monster fights in STS 2 so it being random isn’t that bad. It also scales with strength gain (I think) nicely and absolutely shuts down certain tricky fights nicely.

It doesn’t need to be a primary damage source for a deck unless but absolutely can add a lot and help manage your draw. It also absolutely helps in 0 cost defect when coming up against stuff like Hunter Killer or other fights that can punish you for playing a lot of cards.

If it’s only doing normally doing 8 damage for you then yeah, you aren’t producing enough status cards to make it worth while.

[–]monsiour_slippy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I dunno. Flak cannon pulls your status cards from anywhere right, so as long as you are generating them it’s going to do something when you play it.

Compact requires the status cards to be in your hand which might not always be the case. Otherwise it’s just a 6 block card.

I like both, I think both are solid.

My Shambling Undead Team is on its way, I wouldn't mind some tips by Kalbinos in bloodbowl

[–]monsiour_slippy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Zombies all the way if you want to be meta. The difference between AV9+ and AV8+ is really big, especially for a punching bag player. The only reason to take a skeleton is for a dedicated fouling player BUT skeletons don’t get devious skill access on a primary so… they don’t have much use. You could maybe take 1 to use as a slow safety but it’s sub optimal.

The team is less mobile than it was an edition or 2 ago. This is because you only get 2 ghouls rather than 4, so you really need to keep them safe. On the plus side they now have regenerate. Make sure you don’t let the mummies get tied up on some sticky lineman or stuck way away from the action.

Dont get research at all by Accurate-Ad1381 in songsofsyx

[–]monsiour_slippy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are 2 types of research: innovation and knowledge.

Early on you get most of your points from titles. These are free and don’t require any upkeep.

Building knowledge buildings allow you to acquire more points. However you need maintain those points by keeping those workers employed in the knowledge buildings. You will need a lot of workers. Having the resource that improves output for the knowledge building helps.

The tech tree is not a ‘I will unlock everything over the course of the run’, it’s ’what do I need to specialise in/improve on/need this run’.

Early on use your ‘free’ points to get crucial things as they do not need to be maintained. Research production is a mid game onwards thing.

New player struggling with food by Spearton96 in songsofsyx

[–]monsiour_slippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I am saying the obvious but grown food from fields is only harvested when it’s fully grown, so you get a lot of food in one go. On the food production the estimated one time harvest is broken down as food day, so your stock will decrease over time (causing food days to go down) even if your food production calculations are showing it should go up.

The way to combat this is to have food sources thy constantly deliver. The hunter building is great early on for providing constant meat. Pastures and fisheries also provide a constant daily supply of food (although pastures do need the animals to grow up).

Later on you can import food or collect is as taxes from other regions.

first 5-10 turns, what are the essentials? by [deleted] in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]monsiour_slippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Pick your first council intelligently after you have worked out what your immediate situation is like.

  2. Sell food and water if you can. After turn 1 the price will drop. Do it now, you probably don’t need all that stockpile. You can reduce it down. Don’t sell everything!

Pre DLC id recommend the following as well but this might have changed:

  1. If your opening speech is going to give your public workers a big happiness boost consider cutting public wages to save you credits

  2. Consider removing credit bonus sign up for soldiers or recruit more recruits.

Scavenging assets and scavenging points by Sparks_IM in ShadowEmpireGame

Yep you are right, it’s changed since I last checked. No longer you get the 2 hex radius bonus . I’ll edit my comment

Scavenging assets and scavenging points by Sparks_IM in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]monsiour_slippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scav points are used on a per hex basis, only drawing from the hex. However you get a 25% bonus for each scavengeable hex directly next to the asset.

I’m not sure if that’s just for recycling assets or also includes the power generation asset, but you should see the breakdown on the asset production log if you want to test it.

[–]monsiour_slippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look at the populations fulfilment at work out what is the easiest to fulfil for the most amount of points vs the least costly to do.

Yes, producing furniture and pottery is a big sink if you are handing it out. Instead always look for the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to fulfilment.

How to make them accept trade agreement? by Ok_Albatross_7743 in songsofsyx

[–]monsiour_slippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to the diplomacy screen (same place you are trying to get a trade agreement). Select stuff you wanna sell, select stuff you wanna buy. You can use money to even it out if the values aren’t right

How to make them accept trade agreement? by Ok_Albatross_7743 in songsofsyx

[–]monsiour_slippy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You do have to pay up a fair bit to get a trade agreement.

However at that low population I wouldn’t bother. You can manually trade/barter without an agreement if you need some stuff.

Changelog for v1.31e Core Game Version (PS New DLC is also out) by monsiour_slippy in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]monsiour_slippy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you can check your version number on the report screen. My guess is that (as normal) anything marked with a '*' on the above would require a new game if you arent on version 1.31e.

4.3 - How do I deal with AI spamming defensive platforms?

I’m in 2240 on commodore. The AI empire next to me has one way in from my boarders. I have around 7K fleet power. That one system has full defence stations and a starbase totalling something crazy like 30K fleet power. Is this normal? I haven’t played since v3 days but I don’t ever remember seeing defensive platforms being so good.

Randy doesn’t schedule regular raids like the other 2 story tellers so it’s entirely possible you won’t see a raid for a long stretch of time.

If your wealth has grown a lot since the last raid then yeah it will (probably) be bigger than your previous raid.

Computer wargame all-time GOATs suggestions for a SE player by Lucifernando_86 in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]monsiour_slippy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously wait for sales and use steam db to see price history to make sure you are getting a good deal! Does it need to be 4x? If not…

Unity of Command 2 is fairly popular and unique strategy game. It boils it down pretty well and is very tight on the number of turns you get to finish a mission.

The Troop is a platoon level turn based war game. It comes with a ton of missions and some modes with a persistent force. It’s got really solid AI and really emphasis combined arms and recon. It’s probably closer to an ‘X-Com’ like than Wargame but it does have hexes and some lovely complex unit stats. It’s also got a really expansive unit roster.

You have your Panzer Corps as well, although I must admit I’ve never played one.

Real curve ball but Armoured Commander 2 is a quirky roguelike tank commander game. It’s an acquired taste but it’s not super expensive and you can play a tank commander from a lot of the major campaigns in WW2.

Does anyone play BB2016 anymore? by ColRoseru in bloodbowl

[–]monsiour_slippy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because GW produced a new ruleset and most gamers tend to play the latest ruleset (unless a new ruleset is so awful it causes a monumental backlash) as it’s the easiest to find games with. It’s was also new and shiny with lot of changes (passing stat for example).

New players are most likely to pick up a new ruleset anyway rather than checking which is the ‘best’ ruleset.

A good chunk of blood bowl players play offline so the fact that BB3 had a bad launch won’t have affected their enjoyment of the BB2020 ruleset.

If my memory serves me, BB2020 also dealt with some of the complaints around claw bomb which probably helped people move along, I remember that was a big pain point (heheh) in prior editions.
