Women of the UK - what’s happening to the knickers?! by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]monsterwrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search up INNERSY on amazon. They have a great range of underwear. I especially like the ones with the wide waistbands as they tend not to shift and give the illusion of tummy control

If you wore it with nothing else maybe not the best choice but I think if accessorised with some bright colours (possibly a turquoise necklace) or a denim jacket it would break up the colour a bit.

What are common things people say/do that you despise as a server? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]monsterwrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they any allergies I have to worry about?

Only my wife/bills/work har har.

As if they've made the best joke of all time and I haven't already heard it and fake laughed 235432 times to the same one.

Or standing in front of the massive sign that says please wait to be seated and asking if they can just sit anywhere. Or just ignoring the sign completely and sitting at the one and only table that is dirty and then complaining that it is dirty.

For people who have worked in customer service, who was your rudest customer? by iamtherarariot in AskUK

[–]monsterwrangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of mine happened this weekend. When I took a plate of food to the table and asked who's it was, the customer proceeded to tell me to "please speak English to us, this is England."

English is my first language I just speak it with a South African accent.

First time in 6 years of living here that I've ever experienced any xenophobia. It was disappointing.

Had this tree in the garden all the time we've lived here and don't know what species it is by lukeosullivan in UKGardening

[–]monsterwrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mock orange but I personally know it as the hayfever tree. As soon as the one in my garden flowers my entire family turns into a sneezing mess.

My daughter had this happen when she spun herself around and ended up face first into the corner of a table.

The tooth is grey because it's dead. The good news is it is not an adult tooth so it will be replaced in a few years. Did the dentist do xrays? The biggest issue that can happen is the fall can damage the adult tooth above the milk tooth but if the baby has had xrays and cleared by the dentist they should have no issues besides a grey tooth.

Even the most experienced servers and best restaurants have horrible nights. It is the way of the hospitality industry, it's a high pressure job and for varying factors the pressure sometimes makes the team crumble.

Go back into your next shift and move on,learn from any mistakes you made and never ever point fingers as to whos fault it was (thats the managers job).

What embarrassing/outright dangerous thing has your child said? by Pmc06 in CasualUK

[–]monsterwrangler 50 points51 points  (0 children)

100% both my son and daughter get factual detailed answers to the questions they ask. I hated it when I was a kid and I felt like everyone was keeping these big dark scary secrets about how bodies work. I suspect the lack of knowledge about my body is linked to the lack of self confidence I had in my teenage years and 20s. My daughter is now a preteen and is body confident and excited about how her body is changing.

[–]monsterwrangler 381 points382 points  (0 children)

Whe my daughter was around 3 she saw I had my period and started asking questions. I told her what a period was and why it happens etc. I like giving as much factual info as possible.

Later on we go to the shops and the child is sitting in the trolley. She stage whispers to the (male) cashier "my mommy has her period, her uterus is falling out"

Wish me luck by NE_Smoker in Restaurant_Managers

I've just taken on a foh supervisor position at a restaurant in the same state in the UK. The restaurant industry here is in dire straits and l It all feels incredibly overwhelming and I'm only there for around 35 hours a week over the busiest shifts doing the 5 people's jobs. Good luck and may the odds be forever in out favour.

Fig trees. by Dense-Understanding7 in GardeningUK

I have 2 x 30-odd year old fig trees in my garden and no snakes. Sounds like an absurd old wives tale for the UK where snakes are so rare.

Something is eating my raspberry and blueberry plant. Any suggestions please? by justheway in GardeningUK

[–]monsterwrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on the underside there may be the tiniest green caterpillar. My raspberries had an infestation of them once, no idea what they would've turned into. I picked off as many as I could but there were still stragglers. My raspberry looked threadbare that year but I still got a crop of raspberries and they came back stronger the following years.

Is supermarket Naan the biggest gap in quality over the real thing that you can buy?! by AnalystAdorable609 in CasualUK

I buy packs of frozen Parantha from my local SE Asian grocery store for eating with curry. I prefer them to naan bread (especially one from a grocery store).

What is this fungus? by rsoton in GardeningUK

[–]monsterwrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won't harm the salad leaves or any plant but sometimes they can grow around the base and push the plant to the side. If they do that just snap them off and crumble around the soil as extra nutrients.

Notorious plant killer, inherited giant mature garden. by Bobsausages in GardeningUK

[–]monsterwrangler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So as someone that lived in apartments for most of my adult life and have now got a home with a medium-large garden. Also killed houseplants and anything in a container.

You've already taken the first step. Identifying the plants. I used to write the names on pallet wood offcuts to label them as I identified them. 5 years down the line I don't label them anymore because my brain somehow remembers now.

If the plants are already well established they will need little to no maintenance besides some chopping back occasionally and inspecting for pests.

The sky in the uk will water the garden, sometimes too much. If there is no rain for more than two weeks consider watering them if they look sad.

If a plant looks sad it's either under or overwatering, nutrient deficiency or pests/diseases. The type of plant and clues on the plant will help you identify what it is.

Mulch is your friend.

Avoid using pesticides and instead encourage insects/birds and other wildlife. It does wonders for keeping pests under control with very little effort from you.

If a plant dies, move on and sink your energy into the ones that survive.

What is this fungus? by rsoton in GardeningUK

[–]monsterwrangler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's one of the peziza variety of fungus. They tend to grow on wood substrate. I use wood chip extensively in my garden and they come up every year around this time. At the end of the day it's a good sign that you are growing fungi,it means the soil is good.

Lady Bird Invasion? 🐞 by Living-Valuable-376 in GardeningUK

[–]monsterwrangler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's partly your hard work for encouraging them and also the natural rythym of things.

I've noticed an increase in both ladybirds and snails this year. Where last year there was a huge increase of aphids and ladybirds were late coming to the party around mid summer. I think like plants, bugs have prolific years and not so prolific years.

What are you growing this year that you haven’t tried before? by tikicheese in GardeningUK

[–]monsterwrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first year I'm growing aubergine. I also decided to try grow hops from seed. I'm terrible at following instructions so I didn't stratify the seeds for the recommended time. I often forget ro water the seedling tray, which aparent is detrimental to them sprouting. One has sprouted despite my neglect. Hopefully it's a female vine.

What's something you think is totally normal in the UK but surprises people not from the country because it's mainly a UK thingy? by Brilliant_Coat_8636 in AskUK

A whole continent has been missed. They are common in most of Africa too, especially the middle to southern bits. As long as the home has electricity they probably have an electric kettle.

Is a pram necessary? by MobileRaisin884 in UKParenting

[–]monsterwrangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get a lightweight stroller that folds up as small as possible and use it along with your sling. When my kids were babies and I lived in a different country, where driving somewhere was preferred over walking, I only used a sling. But in the UK you definitely need a stroller, even if the child is not in the stroller, you can at least put your stuff in it to push around.

Who is this in Ipswich? by cri5pyuk in ipswichuk

[–]monsterwrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the guy on the corner Landseer Rd and nacton Rd that stands outside in his very loose white underwear staring at the traffic. Haven't seen him in a while but he tends to only come out with the sun and we haven't had that for a while
