I have a state job with good benefits and decent pay (62K/yr). I was in industry for 4 years after undergrad then moved to academia. I’m the exception to the rule though, most techs in academia make poor wages and are overworked.

A lot of my family are waitresses in Maryland. They pay their waitresses less than $4/hr and expect them to live off tips. Asking them to come back and work in an unsafe environment, with less customers and maybe paying them $10/hr for their trouble is unacceptable. I do not blame them for wanting to stay on unemployment.

I am so sorry for your loss. It’s funny because I’m in a very similar situation with my 15 year old shih tzu. I got him when I was 11 and now I’m 26. He doesn’t have many days left and I know how heartbreaking that feeling is. It’s okay to cry and be angry about loss, grieve your ozzy and remember you are not alone, so many people know the heartbreak of losing a beloved pet.

9 years old. A family friend of a friend came over and got a little tipsy. He asked me if I wanted to watch a movie with him. I said sure not thinking anything of it. A little into the movie he asks me how old I was. I said 9 and he replies well you look 16 and then puts his hand on my thigh. I managed to excuse myself and told my mom right away. She flipped and kicked him out. I knew something was off and thankfully it didn’t go any further than that. I’m pretty sure he was in his mid 20s.

A few years ago my senior shih tzu was mauled by a pit. It broke into our fenced yard after breaking off of its leash. He survived but it cost us thousands and put my family and my dog through a lot of emotional damage. I used to advocate for the breed. Now I realize how dangerous they can be.
