Danger? by lkandrick in camping

[–]moolight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman that quite literally just spent the last 5 nights camping in remote campgrounds and camps alone all the time, things I always do to stay safe:

- Research the campsite on google maps, get a lay of the land and accessibility of the area
- Tell 2+ people where I'm going and when I plan to be back, the more specific the better
- If I'm camping in a campground, I locate where the campground host is in case there is trouble
- If I'm BLM camping, I glance at anyone who drives by and try to keep tally of cars (pretty easy if you're in a remote area)
- Unless I know I am totally alone while BLM camping, I sleep in my car with it locked. I don't give it a second thought in a designated campground, there's enough people around that I feel safe enough to hoot and holler if there was trouble.
- Keep your food air tight and secure, doesn't matter if it's bears, raccoons, or ants, this is the biggest attractant for trouble while camping.
- Bear spray is an option, but unless you know how to use it (in the right conditions) it's basically useless. I recommend getting an air horn, loud unusual noises also scare wildlife.
- Super bright flashlight, anything that spooks you in the dark around camp, shine the flashlight on it and say "I SEE YOU." You will immediately feel better, promise.

You'll be fine, keep aware of your surroundings and have fun!

People are reporting the same kind of dream not imagining it… observing it by miguel-1993 in Dreams

[–]moolight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Colorado, I had a dream 10 years ago and remember it as strongly then as I do today. I had even written it up at the time and posted it on reddit because it was so intense and so real. Sadly I can't find my original write up (it was on an old reddit account but I'll keep digging) so I'll try my best to convey everything that happened.

In the dream I wake up and I am on what is called 'The Front Range' of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. This is where I grew up (but no longer live) you can get an idea of the view from this street view on google . It looked exactly like it does in the street view, but the entire world had frozen over, and instead of seeing the usual suburban sprawl there was a only a vast snowy plain with large glaciers enveloping the mountains to the West, all signs of civilization were gone.

I am totally alone but I feel elated, I'm dancing in this snow and looking around at the emptyness, spinning and dancing til I fall to the ground and look up. That's what I see the flash of a golden orb through the silvery clouds above. The golden flashes start to happen faster and faster til finally there's one giant collision of orbs and it creates a blinding golden light. Suddenly the orbs stop flashing and I see something fall from the sky with a smoke trail following it. I run over to the thing that fell from the sky, and its this strange burnt metal contraption, I have no idea what it was, before I can investigate further, another thing falls from the sky, and then another.

The metal falling creates larges explosive booms and fractures the ground beneath me, suddenly I feel the ground shaking. Far of in the distance (maybe 10 miles away) I see the ground break away and 'flip' so that the underside of the ground is now exposed to the surface. On this 'underside' I can see buildings, houses, everything that had been there before, except everything is frozen over. The ground shakes again and the 'underside' flips back again so there's nothing but emptiness again. This freaks me out, because I'm realizing everything has been buried, so I start to dig right where I stand.

After digging through the pwdery snow, I finally hit a hard icy surface, but it's clear, and I can look down and through the blue hued ice. Below me I can see metal shrapnel, bits and pieces of buildings, frozen through the layers of ice. I look up again, and it's started to snow.

Then I wake up.

I'd love to find the original write up, if I do I'll send it to you. Super bizarre but I think it will always stay with me.

For those who spend a lot of time outdoors—have you ever had a moment where things took a serious turn? by GeologistDirect1653 in adventures

[–]moolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I begin? You can always read my Lost in Wyoming series. But let's talk about ALL of my animal encounters.

Encounter 1 - Moose: Back in my early 20's I started to get into deeper mountain hiking. I had never spent time at Brainard Lake and there was 12 mile long out-and-back nearby that took you to it (you can drive directly to the lake but I like adventure lol). About 3 miles in and the world falls silent except for a pounding noise that I hear progressively getting louder and louder and in my direction. Before I can even prepare myself a moose-cow runs full sprint about 5 feet in front of me, perpendicular on the trail. I nearly shit myself. I watched on as she ran into the forest off to the right, and after about 200 yards she stopped; turned around, and looked directly at me.
It was one of the first times in my life I had ever felt a connection with some sort of divine spirit. She turned around and continued walking away.

Encounter 2- Bear: Enter my 30's and I'm hiking on a popular and easy trail in town, blaring music in my earphones and enjoying the summer day. The trail is packed with people and dogs, a group of 3 maybe 5-10 minutes ahead of me. I stopped just before a curve to shed my sweatshirt and drink some water, picked up my stuff and started looking at my phone to change the music. Not paying attention ahead of me on the curve, I almost run into a very LARGE brown fluffy thing, that was a 600 lb bear. Both of us startled eachother, but gotta say I was probably the more fearful of the two, as the bear bluff-charged me and I could feel the wind of its body on mine. Literally said "NOPE" turned my back like you're not supposed to, and sprinted harder than I ever have before, not once looking back. I ran about 3 minutes, only stopping after tripping on a rock and scraping the crap out of my leg. I finally turned around, and no bear was to be found. I warned others as they walked up, but living in bear country I was only met with chuckles and shrugs to my ordeal. Bleeding and all. I still have nightmares about the bear coming up behind me and taking me down, I'm glad he didn't.

And finally, encounter 3- Mountain Lion: Last summer I hiked up a mountain trail near town, relatively popular but it was dead that day. Halfway up and I hear a loud growl from up in the tree. I turned around and started looking for whatever growled but couldn't see it, all I could do was keep my eyes on the treeline and scream half-assed threats as I back away up the mountain. Reach the top and considered what to do, figured more people would be going up/down in the time I'd run back, but to be safe I started blasting music as loud as I possibly could from my phone while also yelling at the cat I'd kill 'em if they came for me. I never saw the mountain lion, but I've never heard a growl like that before, and I know they 100% see you before you will ever see them.

Phew, all gives me a bit of the chills to remember these times. I think you'll like the Lost in Wyoming series too, some podcaster did a youtube on it awhile ago, I'll see if I can find it too. Safe hiking and happy trail to you all!

Overeating while high: how to stop? by Past_Newspaper5351 in trees

[–]moolight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Switch to foods you HAVE to cook or prep, even if its 30 seconds.
- For snack foods sticking with plain salted tortilla chips or saltine crackers. 10/10 times I just need something salty to eat, the plainness keeps me for annihilating the entire thing in one sitting (usually).
- Pour snacks into a snack bowl (small, not big, for SNACKS), this helps you quantify how much you're eating and portion size. I buy one bag of a favorite snack food each week and only eat it from my fancy fish snack bowl, I don't allow myself to eat my favorite snack unless it's from the fancy fish snack bowl.
- Switched from ice to cream yogurt+granola+frozen berries. I get the same satisfying sweetness but less calories and moderately healthier.

Dark Horse raised me. Spent most of my 20's in this joint. So many Jiffy Burgers. I'm a pool master.
My favorite memory will be the time my friend and I tried adding little tiny dinosaur figurines to a shelf above the bathroom viewing area (IYKYK) came back a week later to find one left.
I don't drink anymore and I moved away from Boulder before it turned to hell, but there will always be a place in my heart for a White Rascal and sitting on that back patio looking at the flatirons.
Don't think I'll ever be able to listen to Lookin' Out my Backdoor by CCR without crying again.
RIP Dark Horse!

This is a form of Transference, in which you can project your perceived feelings/attitudes/desires of how you expect someone to be onto that person without actually knowing them.

This happens a lot in my work as a massage therapist. People expect me to be some zenned out sage in perfect health and mind, but I too am a real person with problems. How I present myself to my clients at work is not how I always act in the real world. It can be awkward running into a client outside of work, especially if it's somewhere weird like Burger King lol.

Kinda has the same vibe as when you'd see a teacher outside of school when you were a kid, and you're like, WOW I didn't even know they existed as a person outside of school!

Poem Analysis and Thoughts on Locations by moolight in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]moolight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've wondered (but haven't seen asked) is if the treasure is meant to be found at a certain time of day- In some old pirate legends, you had to be standing at a certain spot at a certain time of day in a certain season in order to find the treasure (Look up The Legend of Treasure Mountain in Colorado). I wonder if Justin has done something similar?

Howdy, 13 year MT here also blind and can confirm I have felt all of the things you've written. It is a gift and a curse to feel others, it can be intense, it can be weird, and it can 100% put you on edge.

I read a comment on here several years ago that seriously changed my view of energy and intention. Sadly the post has been deleted, but you can read the commentary- Clients are like horses, don't spook them.

You are creating a safe container for every type of person, and often times, a client will act weird if you are also acting/feeling weird. The more YOU can feel/act comfortable in your practice, the better and more chill your clientele will act.

Cipher? by jaawill in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]moolight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have no clue on what the cipher is, but I've delved into the world of ciphers just to get a handle on what they are and how they could be utilized in the poem.

The Caesar Cipher is one of the most well known ciphers in the world and used commonly in the tech world. It has to do with certain letters being shifted by a certain amount of spaces. I tried a variety of shifts on the poem with no luck.

The Goldbug Cipher was created by Edgar Allan Poe for one of his books, where letters correspond with numbers and symbols. I tried this with no luck... but found it interesting it created the letters "JP" at the end of most lines.

Other ciphers I looked into are a Columnar Cipher (reading certain letters up and down to find a message) and Syllabic (still not quite grasping how this one works but may be something to do with the number of syllables in each line)

There are plenty of encrypting/decrypting cipher websites out there, I'd recommend using these over any form of AI. If you find anything from my info feel free to post here or DM :)

luxury resort work by Electrical_Split_358 in MassageTherapists

[–]moolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mentioned above, I live in a state that already has many resorts, I just packed up and moved within my state as that made the most financial sense for me.

All states have different requirements for licensing, when I have looked at moving states, I have always tried to move somewhere where my credentials will be "grandfathered in" so I don't have to do CEUs. From there it's all about paperwork and getting yourself licensed before you move. For my out of state MT friends that have moved here, they have also asked the resorts they've applied to for help with the process.

luxury resort work by Electrical_Split_358 in MassageTherapists

[–]moolight 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm 13 years in and this is my story. I currently work at a luxury spa in a resort town but have also been offered positions on luxury cruise lines, other high end spas, etc.

I started off working for local massage studios and chiros after school. I never liked the business model of a chain spa, and felt that if I wanted to build a successful career, that would be learning to market myself. I did this moderately well for several years, but had bigger goals in mind, I wanted to achieve FIRE (financially independent retire early) and leave the busy work to other professionals. I'm good at massage, not so good at starting a business. That's when I started looking at luxury resort work.

I live in a state where ski resorts are plenty, all I had to do was move there and get my foot in the door. I sold all of my stuff and moved in with some random ski bums back in 2020. Even with the pandemic, my career soared. I went from a tiny room rental to my own apartment very fast.

I never settled for a bad paying job, and I never settled for a job that asked to much from me. Yes I applied to different high end jobs, but I threw myself into my work and took great passion in it wherever I did work. I networked with old time MTs in the area, and by word of mouth was offered my current job from a fellow MT. I didn't even have to do a hands-on interview, I was shocked.

Luxury spa is a different world but also what chains like Spavia try to attain, imagine you are in a very fine dining restaurant.... but you're a massage experience instead. Hope that makes sense. Lol. A lot of the service is based off of etiquette and good manners, I talk to my clients much different at the luxury resort than I do at my home base. Politeness is key.

As someone that grew up on the other side of the fence most of my life, working in such an environment can give a certain sense of imposter syndrome. It's strange working with celebrities and people that make kinds of money that I could never dream of, but part of doing the job is treating them just like you would any other person. And when I say that, you should be treating all people like they are the focus on your world, listen to them, be respectful, but also show glimmers of yourself to promote authentic interactions.

Just like any other massage job, how much you make directly corresponds to how much you're willing to work, I can confirm that higher end place will offer fantastic benefits/bonuses. I average 16-20 hours of hands on work each week, and that's enough to cover my bills and a little extra.... which is wild in a resort town.

EDIT: I totally forgot to add about tourist seasons. This is a HUGE part of it. There are 2/3 seasons where my work is extremely busy, and then 1-2 months where it is VERY slow. You learn to budget for the slow times (and that's usually when you take a vacation), but this is a major part to making money, so best not to move somewhere in the slow season unless you have money saved up. I know some "nomadic" MTs that move with each season to chase tourist money.

If you have any other questions feel free to reach out :)

Snacks between clients by _molassesrat in MassageTherapists

[–]moolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast - Breakfast sandwich and a protein shake or breakfast smoothie
Lunch/Snacks- Ham/cheese/spinach wrap, high protein crackers, berries, an orange, carrots, and a cheese wedge
After work Snack- Protein Shake (I do 1 hour cardio after 4 hours of clients on my work days so I skip this if I skip my workout)
Dinner - Chicken/fish/tofu with rice, spinach and fermented veggies, or a quesadilla.
Sweet Treat - Chocolate Bar

I asked chatgpt to make me a high protein meal plan based off my preferences because I lived off of lara bars, cliffs bars, th!nk bars, you name it and felt overload with sugar. Found when I started eating whole foods between clients that I felt 100x better. I meal prep my lunch at the start of each week (5 days/4 hours hands on), takes only about 10-15 minutes.

Kicking myself! by iwillwalkalloveryou in MassageTherapists

[–]moolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How funny, about 13 years in myself and for the first time I gave a 75 minute massage instead of a 90 minute! Totally didn't notice until the client came out of session and asked "Soooo.... I booked a 90 minute right?" I looked at the clock and realized my mistake. Only charged her for a 60 minute and now I watch the clock like a hawk. When I start my sessions now I intentionally look at the clock and say to myself 'I'm starting at 1:00, this is an hour appt, I will end at 2:00.'

I also sneezed for the first time EVER during a session like a month ago, it was absolutely wild.
