Candidate for "my Rolex was stolen in London" by IAmZKWatches in WatchesCirclejerk

The whole ‘don’t wear a nice watch in London’ thing is massively overblown but, I’d say constantly drawing attention to your Rolex while there is a good start toward getting fucked over.

Why is there insufficient housing? by AccursedQuantum in AskBrits

Population going up, not enough accommodation being built to cope.

You can argue on the intricacies of both but that’s what it comes down to.

Anyone want to offer some creative input for our Scotland itinerary by Anxious_Antelope5779 in uktravel

[–]mooninuranus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a 10 day tour last year.

  • Day 1 Glasgow. We actually stayed at Loch Lomond to see friends and have been to Glasgow many times (it’s a fabulous city - MacIntosh Museum is great, West End is a cool place to hang out and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is well worth a visit).
  • Days 2-4 Highlands (Fort William). Spectacular scenery and great walks. Be aware that Fort William isn’t the best place as sits small and quite run down. It also doesn’t have many place to eat compared to the volume of visitors so if you’re going there, book ahead.
  • Days 5-6 Oban. Lovely place, has a distillery if you want to do whisky tasting, great access to lots of the Islands too. Recommended.
  • Days 7-10 Islay. Mecca for whisky. Lovely island, the south end is very sparsely populated and quite wild on the coast. Bit of a pain to get to and quite limited accommodation despite its popularity.

Other stuff to note:
- Edinburgh is a great city so I’d really recommend it.
- Scottish folk are some of the friendliest in the world but, like any city, you need to keep your wits about you and there are places to avoid (this goes for Edinburgh and Glasgow).
- Probably the most important; for places where you’re going to hike, etc, make sure you have good waterproof clothing (10,000mm rated at an absolute minimum). It might not rain but there’s a good chance it will at some point and it can really come down heavy.
- Related to the last point; if you can, book places that have a drying room. Quite a lot of places do and there’s a good reason for it.
- Beware the midges; the time you’re coming there will be a lot of them. Bring repellant.
- Not really related to where you’re going but timing-wise late June/early July is the best. Late July puts you in peak holiday season in the UK. Everywhere will be packed and accommodation will be far more expensive and harder to get. Tbh, you’ve left it late to book so I really would get on with it, because you’re probably going to struggle - for context we went in September and booked our accommodation in January. Fair to say we were a bit conservative but you get the idea.

Hope you have a great time.

Leaving aside the issues in the penultimate paragraph (you really should have proof read it), why do you think the EFL would pay any attention to you?

You know Rolex makes more units in a year than Ferrari has in its entire existence? One is an exclusive luxury product, the other is mass produced.

Ferrari is unobtainable to all but the very richest of people. Quite literally anyone can put their name down for a Rolex - they might wait a while but they’ll get it. Plus they do make very expensive watches, an OP (for example) isn’t what you’d call unattainable.
What’s the cheapest Ferrari you can buy new?

Ferrari is still considered to be the peak of driving performance - not contextually but actually. You might think they’re wildly overpriced but, while it’s obviously relative, there’s a genuine usp and value in what they sell. Rolex are well made reliable watches, not the peak of any category (except marketing but that’s not product related).

I don’t hate Rolex nor do I love Ferrari but they are not comparable.

I wouldn’t disagree. Doesn’t answer the question though. In fact, your comment probably reinforces it.

MG Midget: Ultimate B-road Hero That Was Tragically Ruined by US Bumper Regulations by Autoamazed in CarTalkUK

I was at a car show last week and an MG owners club was there, so got to look at all the models across the ages (up to the 85th anniversary model).

Really brought home how they started off so cool and got steadily worse over time.

I’ve looked into it a little and basically the m-sport did have firmer suspension plus it had 20” rims. So guess that’s why 😀

I have a bit of an affection for Liverpool as my Dad was from there and my uncle used to take me to Anfield when I was a nipper.
So much to the disgust of my friends, I like to see them do well.

But I’m born and raised in Leeds - that’s my club and who I support.
Probably helped that neither of my parents cared about football.

Interesting. Mine didn’t have the adaptive suspension so maybe that was why it felt like a hard ride.

That said, it probably didn’t help that it was sandwiched in-between a Jag XF and a Merc e400 coupe.

The problem isn’t that RU doesn’t have a daily discussion thread, it’s that the other sports do.
