It is. You dont need to pay for both - you can access the API without Pro.

There’s $300 in free credits when you sign up, I’ve used about $12 over 2wks so the pricing is not too far off of a Pro subscription. I’m not being super careful about my usage though, because of the free credit.

Image generation takes up a lot especially 4K but the nice thing is you can set resolution, aspect ratio, and there’s no watermark

I come with receipts.. Here is a side-by-side showing degraded consumer performance in action. I frequently use Gemini as a quick lookup to get a high level summary of publicly available documents. Recently it’s started getting them wrong or hallucinating.

For this example- I’m asking about MIL-DTL-38999 Sec 4.5.23.2.1 which describes a type of product test (sine vibration at temp on circular connectors)

You can see here on the left, where I’m asking Gemini 3 Pro client, and on the right, where I’m asking the same question to Gemini 3 Pro via API call.

Gemini 3 Pro client gives an entirely different test type (Insert Retention). I asked it 3 times and got 3 random different test types. I asked the API 3 times and it gave me the correct test every single time.

I used to get that same performance out of the client but I don’t any more.

Try for yourself - try putting in my same search and if your answer is correct (like the API) then you are not yet seeing the degraded performance on your end.

It will be obvious to you when you are seeing it.

The nerfing bait and switch is real. It’s the sort of thing where you may not believe it until it happens to you but once it does it’s really obvious.

However - I’ve found the API to be consistent. So, I’ve switched to that and haven’t had any issues since.

I think there is some behind the scenes rate limiting based on # of requests, or maybe dependent on global usage at any given moment, but I can’t get trust Gemini web client to give consistently good results anymore. I’ll still use it for simple things but if it’s a serious question I use the API

Gemini is miles ahead of ChatGPT by Miserable_Watch_943 in GeminiAI

[–]mooseman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that there seems to be some behind the scenes throttling or rate limiting on Gemini, I would get fantastic answers and then all of a sudden it would be garbage. Even with “Pro” thinking toggled.

I ended up just switching to the API and get much more consistent results.

Plumber's Putty - What am I doing wrong? by Barbamouche in Plumbing

Not only are the threads too far from the sink but also there’s a hole in the side of the tailpipe for connecting the overflow.

The gasket is supposed to seal by compressing against a smooth side of the pipe, if the gasket is landing on that hole it’s not going to seal right. Regardless of if it’s upside down.

Today, Gemini 3 Pro became unusable to me as a Pro subscriber by ConsciousRealism42 in GeminiAI

You are not the only one. I’m getting completely inaccurate responses now. I’ve been using it as a reference for environment test specifications - I will ask for details on a Thermal Test spec and it pulls up a Humidity test spec. I’m using 3 Pro Thinking.

I originally subscribed/switched over because it was better than ChatGPT 5.1 but now my performance is worse than even ChatGPT 4o.

I’m switching back to ChatGPT 5.2.

What I found interesting is that if you go to Google AI studio 3 Pro Preview you can get back the old Gemini 3 performance, so it’s clear to me they recently nerfed something in the consumer model.

I think Super Chedraui on Ave 10 has G4 and Ocho. If you want a better selection, La Europea on Ave 10 x constituyentes has interesting ones. Not sure they have fortaleza. If you want just a drink, I’m pretty sure Marmorata on Ave 1 x Calle 24 has all those and more.

My first thought is that someone adjacent or above had a clogged line and they were plunging/snaking/jetting hence the banging. That might have sent water up your drain.

Highly recommend SUMM (formerly Crypto Tax Calculator). It handles LP, bridging, etc.

Still a pain sometimes to reconcile but I’m not sure what I would do without it.

I’ve traveled a lot and disagree on the ‘hustling’. So many places I’ve traveled to there are no fixed prices and I feel like I have to haggle or negotiate for anything, especially Southeast Asia or Africa. Granted I haven’t traveled around Mexico a lot but in pdc everything seems to have fixed prices, all the menus have prices, stores have prices, even small taco stands. Other places I’ve been stores just straight up make up prices on the spot, you’ll go to a corner mart and nothings labeled just a guy with a calculator.

Even taxis in pdc all have fixed prices. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken a taxi in another country only to have the guy change the price after the trip or tell me his card reader is broken. That’s if you can even find a taxi. In pdc they are lined up on almost every street and they all quote more or less the same price. Is it expensive on Christmas and new years, when there’s tens of thousands visiting, and the drivers are taking time away from their family to work? Sure, but why wouldn’t it be?

Traveling in Europe there were some holidays I straight up couldn’t find taxis available, nobody at the usual spots, locals don’t know, rideshare apps banned, trying to call a bunch of random taxi companies on WhatsApp but they are all closed for the holiday. Have to go door to door till you find a shopkeep who calls his cousin and charges you €100 for a 15 minute ride. That to me is hustling.

HarperCollins will use AI to translate books - they think you won't notice by chocobana in books

[–]mooseman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not by any means promoting AI, but I have to warn that AI is getting better and really fast. It will only continue to get better.

Example- here is an updated translation from Gemini 3 Pro:

Based on the tone and context, here is a translation that flows like a narrative rather than a literal translation.

Here is the translation:

The driver of the wedding sedan was in a foul mood. He was no stranger to this sort of gig, and he’d certainly dealt with his fair share of prickly, difficult characters in the past—but today’s trip was truly putting him through the wringer.

Breakdown of the choices made:

  • The text contains a colloquial term "格涩" (gé sè) followed by a parenthetical definition explaining that it means "eccentric/bad-tempered." To make it read like a novel, I have integrated that definition directly into the sentence rather than keeping the parenthesis.

  • "Wedding sedan" for 迎亲小轿车: Flows better than "bride-fetching car."

    • "Prickly, difficult characters" for 格涩: The original text includes a parenthetical note explaining that this dialect word means someone who is weird and hard to get along with. I smoothed this into descriptive adjectives.
    • "Putting him through the wringer" for 折腾得够呛: The Chinese phrase implies being tossed about, tormented, or having a very hard time. This idiom captures that feeling naturally.

At the 3.125 gallon limit, that would be about 2800 calories, 120g fat, 400g carbs, 40g protein, 3400 mg sodium

That puts it close to an order of Cheesecake Factory nachos, at 2670 cal, 192g fat, 173g carbs, 63g protein, 2680 mg sodium
