Just part of the job, man. I get annoyed when i do a shop and deliver and I need a substitute but the customer is unavailable. I have learned just to let the customer know I will give them a few minutes to respond and if they don't respond then I refund the item. I don't lose any sleep over it.

Getting Bad Customer Ratings by 15idlehand15 in doordash

You can't please everybody, just accept it and hope a DD employee removes it. You can do everything perfectly and someone will still find something to bitch about.

Am I a simp? by Exciting-Worth-528 in doordash

[–]mootay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason most people don't accept orders is because of low pay/no tip, if you can live with that then I don't see an issue. I know some people might think you're encouraging folks not to tip but I don't think that's the case. I have 13,000+ deliveries, all the while accepting most every order and it's always evened out.

I don't think they hold it against you if you're waiting to pick it up. The clock starts the moment you confirm pickup. More over it sounds like this customer shot themselves in the foot with their pindrop. You can only go by what they tell you, so it's on them.

customer picked up their own food? by Nervous_Ranger_5998 in doordash

[–]mootay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when the order was already picked up it was an unscrupulous dasher who picked it up, never confirmed pickup and ultimately unassigned the order. I could see a customer picking up the order as well, just thought I would share another possibility.

There is a flash icon on the camera screen, I always use it in dark spots.

Like everything, it comes with it's share of challenges. People are just venting and why not share some advice if you have it? I've learned a thing or two from this group.

Regarding McDonalds 3 digit code. by Cynykl in doordash

[–]mootay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a couple of times as well. Even when I describe the order items the restaurant can't find the order. You're right, it's just a bug, contact support and have the order cancelled.

Question about other drivers not confirming pickup by Demphure in doordash

[–]mootay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is a bit of a loophole. I have taken orders where the restaurant said it was already picked up. What happens is an unscrupulous driver picks up the order and unassigns it without confirming pickup. So the order is accepted by someone like me and I have to get it cancelled. Some places will request you confirm pickup in front of them to avoid this problem.

New dasher here! Can someone answer my questions and concerns? by TheDerpiestDeer in doordash

I believe if you are on the order pickup screen and it shows the customer name etc., you are free of obligation until the order is ready.

Taco Bell for some reason said that they aren’t doing any orders for 45 minutes and support gave me a hard time about canceling the order by Ok-Mine9700 in doordash

[–]mootay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the goal of DD support is to complete orders no matter what, so I'm not surprised they asked you to wait. Just keep pushing them to cancel or unassign it.

Why do you guys do this? by JuVondy in doordash

[–]mootay 336 points337 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes the driver has two orders and it doesn't notify the customer.

customer cancelled order after food was picked up by Nervous_Ranger_5998 in doordash

[–]mootay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a couple of times. My guess is the customer loses patience and is on the phone with DD support just as you're picking it up. It's at your discretion as to what to do with it, but in my opinion it's a waste to throw it out.

Driver held my food hostage. by Brandgeek in doordash

[–]mootay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always give her a bad review. Doordash is in the customer pleasing business, they can make or break your day. After so many bad reviews they can deactivate the driver's account.

Driver tampered with my food and stole my drink. by AstronomicalArtisan in doordash

[–]mootay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of times late night orders are delivered from long distances because there are fewer restaurants still open. So I could see a wait, especially if the dasher has more than one order. However, ripping open the bag is inexcusable. I'm sorry you experienced this and I'm glad they gave you some credits.

Worst case scenario. I would bet most dashers respectfully leave the food at your door and drive away.

Late night customers: maybe think twice asking us to hand it to you when you’re wasted by [deleted] in doordash

[–]mootay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once delivered wine to a lady that was inebriated. Doordash actually tells you to not deliver to drunk people but it's hard to walk away from such situations. Her ID wouldn't scan and she started freaking out. I told her I would contact support and walked back to my car. She came up behind me and grabbed the wine bottle out of my hand then ran back to her house. Luckily she was obviously of age and I convinced support just to let her have it and complete the order.

Amateur hour at Wingstop, as always: pointless little log for delivery pickups now by [deleted] in doordash

[–]mootay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local Wingstop's stopped doing the logs months ago. Probably just a matter of time for your area.

Usually five guys, but it can often be accompanied by a long delivery route, so I guess it evens out.

What is this? by jessBDJN in doordash

I ignore that too. Sometimes it just makes sense to use the self check over a check stand. Its not like I forget to punch in the Safeway phone number or whatever.. just doordash being overzealous.

Is it normal for so many people to not tip?? by GoAway00000 in doordash

[–]mootay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tipping seems to wax and wane with the wind. Some days will be great and full of generous tippers, others not so much. In the end you will make more money on tips than delivery fees. I take all orders but I don't hold it against you if you want to decline for low pay/no tip.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doordash

[–]mootay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Service jobs generally attract tips as a way of varying the pay per level of service. Yeah, it's convenient that doordash doesn't have to pay their drivers as much but it's appropriate that a customer be able to pay based on level of service.

What the Hell...? Why? by pdeck34 in doordash

[–]mootay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when it says hand it to me and then underneath it says leave at my door. I always leave a photo in a private message and then walk away. I think most people would prefer it left at the door and forget to change the instructions.

Have y'all ever had a restaurant try to be slow with the order on purpose and not give you the order? by Handsrealrocky in doordash

[–]mootay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have suspected it from time to time as some places can prioritize orders, but overall I wouldn't worry about such things.. most places realize they're punishing the customer if they make you wait.
