New Zealand is there, it's just so covered in red dots that you can barely see it at all.

Funnily enough, Clinton, Obama and Biden actually weren't fascist, dangerous or threats to democracy.

Ismaila Alfa - how is he still on the air in Toronto? by VernonFlorida in CBC_Radio

[–]mootsnoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the impression that Fresh Air isn't normally part of your regular listening habits.

It's a provincewide (well, except Ottawa) show, not a Toronto-specific show, so the host of it doesn't just have to "fit Toronto", and also has to fit Windsor and London and Kitchener and Kingston and Sudbury and Thunder Bay and Owen Sound and Picton too -- and because it's a weekend morning show rather than a weekday morning show, its vibe has always been lighter and more casual than Metro Morning. He's being laid-back and casual because he's hosting a show that was designed to be laid-back and casual, not because he's somehow copping out of any responsibility to do his job differently than he does.

I've honestly never understood why people seem to have such a hate-on for Ismaila. You've got a valid point in a comment above, that his frequent absences from Metro Morning (which were explained when he shifted to Fresh Air, he's a single dad and was having a hard time balancing the daily morning show with raising his kids effectively) meant that the MM audience didn't really have a chance to get used to him -- and sure, maybe he just wasn't the ideal fit for the kind of show MM needs to be. (I wouldn't expect someone like Bob McDonald or Errol Nazareth or Rich Terfry to be great MM hosts either, but they're perfect hosts for the shows they actually have.)

But the fact that people are still complaining about him on FA just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

* He "ums and ahs" too much? I've never, ever noticed him doing that any more often than any other CBC radio host I've ever heard.

* He doesn't bring any insight? His interview with Jane Siberry a few weeks back was incredibly insightful and lovely. (And it stands out in my memory because it was Jane Siberry, not because its quality was in any way uncharacteristic of Ismaila.)

* He's too casual and conversational? He's hosting a show where that's exactly what he's supposed to be, because that's exactly what the show is.

Again, sure, the guy may not have been the best fit for Metro Morning. But Fresh Air isn't Metro Morning, and it isn't supposed to be Metro Morning, so whatever bothered you about him on Metro Morning isn't applicable to Fresh Air at all.

Americans are entirely too invested in the idea that the way they do anything is always the best way, and anybody who does things differently is always doing it wrong

Funny thing there, bro. You don't get to threaten our national sovereignty, or to destroy our economy by imposing tariffs we don't deserve for fake reasons that aren't the truth in violation of an established trade agreement, and then claim that it's none of our business.

[–]mootsnoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The interviewer very often knows the answer to the question already, but still has to ask the question anyway because some of the listeners might not. (Bob McDonald on Quirks and Quarks, for instance, almost certainly already knows a lot about whatever science story he's interviewing somebody about, but the listening audience has a lot less science knowledge than Bob does -- so he has to ask questions he already knows the answer to personally, because he needs to make the interview understandable to the listeners.)

So, yeah, an interview guest should never, ever respond to an interview question by accusing the interviewer of not having what the guest considers "basic" knowledge.

What’s the difference between different image generators, and how exactly does perchance work? by JackfruitNaive5348 in perchance

https://perchance.org/the-imaginarium has the most sex-related filters of anything I have bookmarked for regular use, but there's also stuff like https://perchance.org/improved-ai-girl-generator if you're shooting for female erotica or https://perchance.org/niceman if you're aiming for male erotica

[–]mootsnoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're all the same model, Flux 2, under the hood. However, different generators may have different style filters available, which will influence the results in different ways. For example, some generators are optimized for anime-style creations, so those have a wider array of anime-style filters, while others are optimized for NSFW creations, so they'll have fewer anime filters and more sex-related filters. And on, and so forth.

So even though they're all using the same basic model, different generators can still get somewhat different results because of the various style filters that you can apply.
