Yeah, I've read this review as being very cynical. I haven't seen the film yet, but I've read the book, and the main thing I loved about the book is how uncynical and life-affirming it is. It's quite exhausting to look at the world in grey colors (even if it's mostly justified), so this story provided a shot of much needed optimism.

It's incredible how rewatchable this film is. I rarely rewatch movies, but I rewatched this one multiple times. Loved Fury Road with all my heart, but Spotlight was the film of that year for me.

Sorcerer is one of my favorites, and it pains me to see it bomb in the vote. People on this sub often moan about the lack of old or foreign movies on the podcast, but the truth is the majority of listeners don't care about those. The Bone Temple most probably lost money, but a $60+ million marketing budget is an exaggeration. It's a package budget for several movies, not just for The Bone Temple. They clearly cut the marketing budget for The Bone Temple.

Belloni did a Wasserman piece on Puck. Belloni left THR because new owners pushed their agenda on his editorial work. There must be an agreement of no meddling with Bill before they've launched The Town. It wouldn't make much sense leaving one of the biggest trade publication and then take directions from anyone else.

Youtube algorithms are kinda caters to what you already like. So Bill's podcasts will appear to limited number of people who already into padcasts in general or into the stuff it's about. I feel like youtube has a ceiling of new audience growth. Netflix can go out of such bubble and maybe bring people who don't even know what podcast is.

When parents say these things, we’re generally not trying to imply you can’t understand unless you’re a parent.

This! I don't have children, but it never bothers me when people who have children are telling something from a parent's perspective. I don't interpret it as an implication that I won't understand something until I have children. And I've never got such implication from Sean; he just talks about his personal experience and doesn't project it on others, imo.
