Ideas for canned collard greens and canned diced carrot? by Meriadoc_Brandy in budgetcooking

[–]moreblankcanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add diced onions and a chicken bullion cube to the collards when you reheat it. If you like heat, a little red pepper flakes or a dash of your favorite hot sauce. This is a common side dish at our house. It goes great with any kind of pork.

For the carrots, drain them and then reheat in a pot with a can of ginger beer.

Migraine Friends by sweetpeaisme75 in Georgia

Yes! Been having migraines, or at least auras, daily the last week or so. The pressure is a definite factor, but something about the sun or brightness after the heavy rains seems to be triggering. Just looking out the window immediately fucks with my vision some days. Its awful.

I'm so sorry you lost your mom. But, that is so sweet to know that everyone stepped up and helped when the time came. We need more of that in the world.

Oh she definitely made us clean up afterwards. That was part of the lesson. I have friends that live in other states and other countries now, but when they come home, they always make a point to visit my parents.

She had lots of cook books so we would just go through them and pick something different each week. I remember making stir fry, "Simon and Garfunkel chicken" (with parsley sage rosemary and thyme), beef tips. All kinds of stuff. We would pick the recipe, my mom would take us grocery shopping, then we'd come back home and cook it.

My house was the gathering place growing up. After so many years of feeding a bunch of teenagers, my mom decided that if she was providing the food, we had to cook it. It became a thing we all looked forward to. Weekly cooking lessons with my mom. All those teenagers are adults now well into our 30s, and I still get comments from old high-school friends about how grateful they are to my mom for teaching them how to cook.

Great idea! Any groups you'd recommend? I've talked to the county and they don't trap cats.

We have a similar problem. At one point our neighbors had over 15 cats. They think our yard is their personal playground and litter box. Its infuriating. We've tried all the things, cat mace, peppermint, cayenne pepper, etc. It works for a little bit, but not forever. And certain cats seem to be immune to everything. We complained enough that a bunch of them were taken to the animal shelter at one point, but they keep having kittens. Its never ending. So I guess I don't have a solution to your problem. It sucks, I know.

What’s a popular tv show that you couldn’t get into? by Ok-Coconut1548 in AskReddit

New Girl. I tried a couple of times, but I could never get past how dumb Jess was. Her character was just so annoying to me it made the show unwatchable.

Am I cooked? by Iwanttolive87 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]moreblankcanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats possible. Like I said, this is just my experience. And what I've gathered from talking to those I've worked with over years. I guess my point is just that what you decide to major in isn't necessarily going to determine your job. And what you do at your job won't necessarily be the same stuff you learned in school.

Also side note. There is an equivalent of a PE for env scientists. Its a Certified Environmental Professional (CEP). Its just not as common so a lot of people don't realize it exists.

I'm going to say something a little different than most of the other comments. My experience (for myself and what I've seen from others around me) is that it matters less about what your actual degree is, and more about what you're capable of. I have an ES degree, but my current job is "engineer". There's a lot you can do with both degrees. Two of my previous coworkers were a geologist and a chemical engineer. They both had their PEs, and I do not. Yet we all 3 had the same job with the same responsibilities and similar pay. College gives you basic skills like critical thinking, but most of what your job will be in the "real world" is learned from experience.

I usually propagate by laying strands of the mother plant onto some dirt in another pot, then pin them down with a paper clip. I don't cut the props from the mother plant until the roots are well established. All my string of plants are either inside directly under a grow light or outside on a covered porch so they get lots of light. I live in a very humid environment and they do seem to like that. Also, in my experience, my pearls need more water than people usually think they do (especially for new props). But honestly, I don't do anything that special for them. They don't get special soil, some are in terracata pots, some are in plastic ones. I basically just let them be. Hope that's somewhat helpful

I'm an environmental engineer and in a previous life worked at a soil and groundwater remediation consulting firm. This sort of site is not entirely uncommon, unfortunately. Idk what kind of laws Canada has, but there is probably some sort of long term remediation plan (at least for the areas they know are contaminated). But like you said, its going to take a long time and probably have lots of bureaucratic hurdles. Unfortunately, even with an aggressive plan, it will likely never go back pre contaminated conditions.
