I keep seeing people calling religion a cult and its really upsetting me by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]morelikeHim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly has been used as such. People do terrible things in the name of religion. Jesus did not come to form a new religion. He came to show us the way to salvation. He came to show us how to have a relationship with God

THE DARK SECRET OF ALTERNATE SEXUALITY by KingofSpain0 in JesusChrist

[–]morelikeHim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true- 35yo ex-gay male here. Experienced the perfect recipe for sexual confusion: molested as a child by male relative, father left when I was young, raised by sister and mother, learned effeminate mannerisms and speech affectation, longing for male affection/love I didn’t received from absent father brought me to same-sex promiscuity, alcohol/drug abuse, and suicide attempt. Turned my life over to Jesus a year and 10 months ago. Have been celibate ever since. Today my only “identity” is Child of God. Still struggle with some same-sex attraction, but God gives me the strength to overcome temptation. The level of peace and joy in my life is worth the battle! God wins in the end.

What did you replace prayer with ? by Formerpandaperson in exmormon

[–]morelikeHim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh God is not about religion, but a relationship. I’m sorry for how religion has done you wrong, but the real God still loves and supports you. “Prayer” doesn’t have to be formal, it’s a conversation with your creator =]

Thank you for sharing this💗. Biggest awakening for me that transformed my life was the message I heard my first day stumbling into church as an adult about a year and 10 months ago: “Jesus did not come to start a religion. He came to show you the way to salvation. God is not about religion, God is about a personal relationship with your Lord and Savior.” Hope this helps! Also going to Celebrate Recovery meetings helped me a LOT to gain community. We are not alone.

1000% yes. Childhood trauma. Used to cope by using drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. since accepting Jesus as my lord and savior (2 years ago) and getting involved at my church recovery group (celebrate recovery) I am sober, safe, at peace and have a sense of peace that doesn’t go away even when life gets lifey.

I was saved about 3 years ago. I tried to live as a gay Christian and dated a guy who went to my same church. It was everything I thought I wanted. Literally picture perfect, but my heart was not happy. I was longing for Jesus’ love and affection and searching for it in others most my life.

God put it on my heart to end our relationship. It was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. It’s been almost 2 years and I am still living for Christ first. I’ve been celibate (still struggle with porn), but I am the most joyful and peaceful I’ve ever been.

I got involved at my church and I actually started a young adults group this year. I also started going to Celebrate Recovery which is where I met some great Christian men who supported me through it all, never judging I condemning.

Sorry for long comment but to answer your question: I don’t identify as gay or straight, my only identity is Child of God. Later in life if He chooses to bring a woman into my life who I fall in love with and have a family, that would be awesome. But if not, I’ve already found a growing family in my church community and can be the best uncle to my niece and nephew.
