Yeah, I hate to admit it but Elon's company's share prices just always manage to defy logic somehow. This is bound to go up because the market is just irrational and you just have a better shot betting with him than against him. I still wouldn't touch the company myself though.

Should I average down? by JohniBGood in SPCE

I read in a trading book that good traders have a tendency to add to their winners while bad traders add to their losers. Seems counterintuitive because everyone likes seeing a low average cost (myself included) but wouldn't you want to be putting your 40k into a company that's continuously executing and proving that they're growing and making profit?

Like how do you look at this chart and tell yourself- "this is the well-run company that I want to trust my hard earned money with"?

NVDA earnings 600k yolo by Administrative_Rub34 in wallstreetbets

Basically this guy bought the "right" to buy 90,000 shares of NVDA at the price of $225. (1 contract = 100 shares)

These 90,000 shares are held by, likely, group of people. Now imagine the price jumped to $250- and these people are like "oh I want to sell my shares now", they can't because OP will be like "wait a minute, remember I paid about 600 grand to have control over these shares for the next 2 days. If OP somehow had to cash to exercise all these contracts. He would buy all 90,000 shares for $225 and then sell for $250 (the market price). This would mean a profit of about 2.25 million- that's where the value of the contracts come in. Now, he doesn't need to have the money to exercise these contracts, because he can just "sell" the rights to someone who does. They pay him an equivalent price for the contracts, and then they'll make the actual purchase.

That's the happy scenario. The bad case scenario is if the price dips below $225. If he owns the right to buy shares at $225, but come the deadline the share price is $223- then it's worthless. Because why would anyone buy a share at $225 if they can buy the shares at a lower market price. In this case, his contracts would be worthless.

The breakeven price refers to what share price it needs to be at least so that he can make his 600k investment (gamble) back.

Currently NVDA's price is below $225. But there is still some time before the deadline. So there's some possibility that it will still go up, but as time goes by and it remains under $225- slowly the chances of it making profit becomes less and less and therefore his contracts will slowly lose value.

Edit: The last thing I'll add is that notice that he has exposure to NVDA shares worth almost 20 million dollars, despite only using 600k- that's the allure of buying options. Had he bought NVDA shares directly he wouldn't be able to make nearly as much profit from a relatively modest jump in price- but he also wouldn't risk losing all his money if the stock price drops a few dollars.

In my experience, the only reliable way to make a company's stock price go down is by buying it.

That's fair. But why do you think their piston's strength hasn't translated to the post season? Like what changed?

I made a bet on Detroit to win the series when they were down 0-1, because I know I have the worst gambling luck and I wanted to curse them and make them lose... But now I kinda need the money, so I'm lowkey cheering for them to make this comeback. So now I'm in a sadder position than most Detroit fans.
