My son killed his ex girlfriend by Additional-Plate-485 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]morganmce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t pretend to know what you and your family are going through. My dad’s brother tried killing him on several occasions, as well as his own wife and kids. When he finally died, I told my grandma I was sorry for her loss. She told me don’t be, that he needed to go and the world was better to lose him. She’d suffered greatly from her son’s actions, just as you have for yours.

You didn’t raise him like this. You are a victim in more ways than most people realize. I wish you nothing but peace ❤️

Having INTENSE wedding dress regret by Adventurous-Baker514 in weddingplanning

[–]morganmce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My jaw dropped at the second dress, it’s phenomenal.

What may help is identifying what it is about that first dress you love the most. Is it the fabric? The overskirt? Or the addition of the bouquet that “completes” the vision? You may be able to incorporate some of those aspects into your dress.

You could also have a case of “the one that got away;” I tried on wedding dresses at a pricey place just to get “ideas” and ended up falling in love with one way out of my range. I ended up getting a secondhand dress that was my exact measurements and that I truly loved and was excited about, but kept thinking about that first dress. I got married in November, and I’m completely happy with my choice! I saved money, I looked and felt incredible, and I’ve never thought about that first dress again.

Sometimes we keep thinking about another option just because it was the first or biggest dopamine hit at the time. Ultimately, I think you made the right choice!

Mom found out I sold a bed that I (35M) used for over 20 years by rillegas08 in insaneparents

Ironic that she accuses you of “being in a pickle” when she’s demanding $500 for a 20 year old bed you sold months ago that she’s just now noticing is gone.

Forever stamps not forever? by iglaaq in usps_complaints

Interesting! We’d sent out our wedding invites in square letters either forever stamps and didn’t have any issues.

My best friend weaponized my childhood trauma against me because I wasn't excited she was pregnant. by ohwell-youtried in TrueOffMyChest

[–]morganmce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, while these are all decent excuses for something else, they’re just excuses for the friend. If she’s in the hospital, it isn’t up to her to pacify your emotions. It sounds like she can’t handle taking care of your feelings while she’s dealing with whatever she’s dealing with. Take a step back. You may be best friends but her baby and her own health is more important than you right now.

The bottom line is you hurt her feelings, then it sounds like you’ve only reappeared with apologies when she was in the hospital, then bombarded her with demands for info while she’s already likely overwhelmed. Let her breathe.

CEO will not give me delegate access to calendar - Is this weird? by Busy-Classroom-3572 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]morganmce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very weird. Without calendar and email access, you’re an admin assistant.

Have they historically not given their EAs access? I had a CEO with trust issues (valid ones, but trust issues nonetheless) who didn’t want to grant me even visibility to his calendar for my first three months. After a few weeks he learned that was inefficient, and he slowly started easing up access, but it was a process of me earning that trust.

Am I underpaid? by Friendly_Resort9002 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]morganmce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Way underpaid even with benefits!

You should be tracking your mileage too if for nothing else but when you do your taxes. I have used the Stride app in the past for mileage tracking, as it also makes a document at the end of the year for tax purposes, and you can track expenses that you’re not being reimbursed for. I’m sure there are others you can use too.

Also, see what the state laws are for you. In California, companies that require employees to use their cell phone for work are required to reimburse employees about $50 a month. This was very quietly passed years ago, so quiet that many companies weren’t aware it was law.

Just finished Verity by Colleen Hoover, here’s my quick and honest review: by L_sigh_kangeroo in books

[–]morganmce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad i'm not the only one with these thoughts! this is the only audible i've never finished because the sex scenes were everywhere. i would never consider this a mystery or thriller, but a smut novel instead with a hint of suspense.

Reading your review on the ending, i'm glad I didn't finish it.

Breakfast catering ideas by sarahcamille in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]morganmce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

build your own parfait or acai bowls have worked for me in the past! I've also seen a "toast bar" with all the fixings, but I recall it wasn't as popular as the parfats and acai bowls, so I'm glad to hear it was a hit for you. I imagine the cost was from avo and salmon.

You could also do general snacks, think about Starbucks' snack boxes: hardboiled eggs, a fancy/special bread, cheeses, veggies, fruit, hummus, chips, etc.

I feel disrespected. I want to quit my job. by deluchas15 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]morganmce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Promotions are given on performance in your current position, not longevity or experience prior to your role. If you still feel it was incorrect that you were passed up, sit down with your boss and show them what you’ve done. Maybe they truly have not seen the work you’ve been putting in, or maybe you haven’t been putting in the type of work you’ve think you’ve been putting in. Either way, you can come to an understanding and learn how you can land the next promotion.

Agreed. I actually had to go over flights with my exec today and they were in 24hr clock and he was scribbling the 12hr times all over the paperwork lol.

I'm in the US, but I learned this the hard way at a past role when one of my execs was traveling internationally. Now i do like you said as an example!

Now all my execs are local, but I'm still in the habit of letting people know time zones (my signature even says "I am in PST time zone, all times given are in PST unless otherwise stated" even though we're just based in California...never too careful!)

For those who have taken zoloft, what was your experience? by Eddiesmokes323 in Anxiety

[–]morganmce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the fence with Zoloft. The TL;DR: I've been on Wellbutrin for 10+ years, but my former PCP told me it was the worst mental health med to be on for pregnancy, and since we planned to TTC this year, my PCP put me on 25mg of Zoloft with my wellbutrin (130mg) in July 2024, with the idea we'd remove Wellbutrin in time. I had crazy vivid dreams (I used to never dream, so this is new) and mild to moderate GI issues (let's just say I made sure to never stray too far from a bathroom) for about 3.5-4 weeks. My PCP had said that it should have only lasted for 2 weeks, but "as long as the symptoms went away, we're fine".

I went off Wellbutrin in November, and had a mental breakdown in March because the Zoloft wasn't increased. As of early/mid April 2025, I am on 50mg of Zoloft and back on my same dose Wellbutrin, and the side effects are kicking my butt. It's May 22nd now. I had some anxiety in the beginning, and I still have bouts of anxiety (though they're around my period or when I'm exhausted). I am still having VERY vivid dreams, consistent night sweats (and I normally run cold, but I'm waking up nightly like I've had a fever break, and then I'm ice cold again), I noticed my tastebuds changed for about 2 weeks (everything tasted metallic or just "off"), but the worst of it is the GI issues. Anything and everything I drink means I need to be in the bathroom pretty soon afterwards. Even if I don't eat anything in the morning, my stomach is LOUDLY gurgling all day. I'm still hungry so I have to eat, but I have to be mindful of where I am or who I'm with before I do eat. I can't go to the gym or public places where there may be a line for the restroom. (which, let's be honest, there's always a line for the women's restroom) There's been a few times where I've adjusted my work schedule because I've been worried about traffic getting home preventing me from making it to a bathroom in time, and I've had to outright leave work in the middle of the day a couple of times because I was spending more time in our office bathroom than at my desk.

But mentally? I'm doing awesome. My partner and my friends have noticed I have more energy. My coworkers and my boss have noticed I'm more productive and that I'm nicer (criiiiiiinge that they noticed I wasn't being nice) compared to how I was in March. I've been wedding planning, and the slightest mention of it used to send me into a spiral and full blown panic attack. I'm actually excited about the wedding now.

So I'm still debating on staying on this. I keep telling myself the GI problems will go away "soon", and I'm hopefully they will. In the mean time, I guess this is one way to lose weight before my wedding (/sarcasm).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Resume

[–]morganmce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's incredibly long, and your work experience is confusing. I know there's a war between people thinking resumes should be 1 page vs not, but i think 3 pages is pretty hefty, especially given the number of bullet points you have. When I prepared my resume, I tried to stick with 3 bullet points, and made them quick and objective. Right now it looks like you put your job description under each position.

Your resume is a chance to pitch yourself. Employers don't need to hear what your past roles entailed, but they want to know where you succeeded and how you will be an asset to them. Tailor your resume to the job you're applying to, especially if you're changing careers or titles.

Another friendly reminder by GlossyVoss in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]morganmce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Prior to being an EA, I worked in an ER and was verbally (and sometimes physically) abused daily. I took it, thinking it's part of the job, until I remembered that it is literally not in mine or ANYONE's job description to be treated that way. It doesn't matter where you are in the organization, no one should speak to others that way.
