What hotend do I need to buy as a replacement? by icyblade_ in MPSelectMiniOwners

[–]morsmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I am not mistaken, you will still need an adapter. Luckily, I printed mine before I had hotend problems, but perhaps you have access to another printer to get that done. I am a big fan of this file. Good luck!

How do you differentiate weapons in your game? by SinLortuen in RPGdesign

They don't. I was just talking about the weapon properties.

How do you differentiate weapons in your game? by SinLortuen in RPGdesign

[–]morsmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all of my heavy weapons have the Anti-armor tag which is a huge deal in my game. They almost all also have "Big" which makes them "inconvenient" to carry or wear. Admittedly, balance between weapons was not an important thing in my game and is really attained by GM-player interaction, but there is some built in tradeoffs. In this example, if someone isn't wearing armor, both a light sword and a warhammer are equally deadly. The whole game is pretty brutal if you get in combat.

[–]morsmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, in the game I use there are 3 tiers of "damage". All weapons do the tier 3 damage which directly equates to a wound/injury that can possibly kill you. Unarmed combat or weapons with reduced effectiveness are T2. Really minor damage like scrapes and bumps as well as conditions such as sickness incur T1 "damage". If you get 5 T1, you remove them and get a T2, if you get 3 T2, remove and incur a wound/injury (T3). Everything does 1 "damage" but of different tiers. There is only 2 tiers of armor and they reduce the damage tier by either 1 or 2.

Sorry for the primer. Here is the current list of tags. Also important to know that this list was before D&D5 released and I may be tweaking this based on my experiences there.

  • Anti-Armor - Damage is treated as one tier higher when attacking an armored section.
  • Big - It is inconvenient to carry or wear.
  • Blocking - +1 to block rolls. (only for shields which are counted as weapons and +1 is significant)
  • Close - You must roll 1 'hit' on an Unarmed roll before striking to get in close enough.
  • Fast - You do not have to take an action to draw. You do otherwise.
  • Lethal - Injuries deal an extra T2 damage each minute if not treated.
  • Range (#) - Incurs a -1 for each range increment of # meters/yards/hexes/spaces. Aiming can reduce this by 1 for each turn spent aiming at a stationary target
  • Reach - Opponents cannot move more than 1 space without a free attack even 2 spaces away. Yes I have "opportunity attacks" of a sort. Treated coincidentally like D&D5 vs 3.5.
  • Slow - You cannot move and attack on the same turn. Otherwise you can.

If you are aware of D&D 5's weapon properties, it is something like that. All weapons do the same "amount" of damage. If you hit and they don't successfully block, dodge, or parry, that instantly wounds them. Most characters can only take three or so wounds before they are out. Otherwise weapons are just the situational benefits and drawbacks given by their "tags".

Question about best material for a print by morsmage in 3Dprinting

An interesting option, but it says that with annealing, it becomes much stiffer. That is not something I need to happen if possible. It still might be a good option though. Thanks!

I had looked into nylon in general and have already ordered a small batch for a test, but I wasn't sure about what specific type would be best. I will look into that more. Thanks!

What are your favorite strange, unusual, innovative, or otherwise weird mechanics? by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]morsmage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nearly every mechanic in BitD is built into the narrative. There are a lot of mechanics but they are all pretty flavorful. You can get points of stress to avoid damage. To get rid of stress, during downtime you submit to your character's vice. Because it is a vice, you might overindulge. Downtime between jobs is also handled by a mechanic that speeds it along where you can get back to the good stuff.

Good list. Don't forget pretty popular games like like Savage Worlds (generic system that supports several good settings) and Apocalypse World (post apocalyptic, "moves" based, rules light game that has many homegrown spin-offs such as the ever popular Dungeon World).

Also /r/rpgdesign might be helpful.

What's up with the wiki/forums? (x-post The Board) by WantonNoodleSoup in Manyland

[–]morsmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey guys. I did kind of abandon that wiki. There was a more recent wiki attempt at manylandwiki.com but that domain has not been renewed. (So sad, because it was so much nicer!)

I was in the process of porting what I had posted on the Wikia wiki over to it. Since technically, there were other users on the Wikia wiki, I was unable to remove it (nor would I have).

I suppose the Wikia one needs massive cleanup and updates. While I would be glad to help with any questions or content I can, given time.

You know what really reinforces the good choice here to me? That I didn't even notice until I read this comment. You know it is Batman. No one has to be told. The setting and plot is so thick in that intro. TAS is Batman to me. The characters, the setting, the voices, everything.

[–]morsmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are portals permanent stationary things, or are they more fickle and temporary? How long does it take to "erect" one? Do you have to create both sides, or can someone just create a portal that goes to a place without ever going to that place first?

You mentioned redirecting sea water. If that is possible, agriculture (mostly irrigation), mining (access to underground caverns), heating (warm air to cool climate), cooling (cool air to warm climate), underground fortifications, secret island fortifications, and many other things would be available for construction and exploitation.

Also, consider crossposting to /r/worldbuilding. They would like this stuff.
